Dear Mr. Lee, I’m going to rebuild my Super Tigre GS40 it needs a new ring installed. I was wondering if you could tell me what is the correct way of removing the sleeve from the case. Also on the piston has a little pin in it does the hook on the piston ring go over the pin or is it used to keep the proper gap on the ring when compressed?
Thanks
Doug S.

Dear Mr. S,
To remove the sleeve from your Super Tigre Heat the cylinder with a propane torch. If you do not have a torch, place the engine in the oven at 200ofor a few mintues. Place a glowplug washer (nothing harder) on top of the piston with the edge slipped into an exhaust port and a prop on the engine. Turning the engine over should lift the sleeve out of the case.

The notch in the ring fits over the pin which keeps the ring from rotating and catching in the exhaust port(s).

Yours,

Clarence Lee
