I have stripped 5 steering servos on the 3905 e-maxx. One of them was even a metal gear servo. I do not believe that the servo saver design on this
truck is worth a sh!!. Does anyone else have this problem with the new e-maxx. I am not driving it rough enough to be causing this problem with my driving style either.

First the stock servo saver is to weak to handle a mg servo, try the ofna hd servo saver (its blue with a gold ring in the center). Second what servos have you used? If you have 80 bucks get a hs985mg or a hs965mg. They are both good digital servos.

The design of the servo saver is built so STRONG that the DUAL SERVO
gears will not hold without stripping to allow the servo saver to engage. So what I will have to do is bypass the stock one with a weaker after
market one. The last two servo's that were stripped by traxxas's jacked
up design were hitec HS-5645MG Metal Gear servo.

I don't know how you strip them. I've got the 3905 Emaxx and I have had no problems. I've driven it a lot since getting it, and it's seen plenty of snow and -15°C temperatures.

I have no idea what you're doing either. I'm guessing your servo saver is bound up some how and it's not being allowed to function properly. Lousy design is not the issue or other people would be having the problems. It's not designed to be strong for two servos...and even if it was, it'd be strong enough for two plastic geared servos, which in terms of gear strength, still aren't as strong as one plastic geared servo.

Will the hitec hs985mg or a hs965mg bolt right in to a new 3905 E-Maxx? I just broke both of my steering servos and would like to upgrade to metal gears.

Yes, but the Traxxas horns won't fit right on. You'll need to either buy the optional servo horn pack from Traxxas, or just use one of the horns that comes with the Hitec servo. With anyone but Hitec, I'd say pick up some aftermarket horns, but Hitec includes very high quality servo horns with all of their metal geared servos so you should be good to go.

The horns are what connects to the steering linkage? The Hitec horns will bolt right on to the traxxas linkage?

Yes, the horns are what connect the servo output gear to the rest of the steering system. No, the Hitec horn won't bolt right up to it. You'll need to ream out the holes a little bit (an Xacto would easily do it), and you might need a longer screw and a locknut, but it would be easy to do.
