Can i use a lipo battery with my multiplex twinstar. My esc is a E-fliteEFLA106 30Amp? Or With that speed control i have to stick to ni-mh?

The ESC is rated for 6-12v. I would think that a 3 cell LiPo pack would be useable.
Note that your motor will have a shorter life span on the higher voltage packs.

I am flying a little homebuilt pusher(16" span) with an Electrifly 630 li-po and esc from a [p.o.s.] Flatout. The motor is from a Parkzone Stryker (brushed) and use the smaller li-po brop from the li-po Stryker C. Controlled by an old AM tx. Flys like a bat outa hell, but the batt life is short and the motor is very hot after each flight. So I agree thet I will have a very short motor life. But heck, all the parts were scrap and it flys better that most of the new park flyers that I have purchased lately.

I can't find any information on that ESC. Here are the things to check
1) max voltage - sounds like you have that covered. That ESC will handle up to a 3 cell lipo pack
2) Can the LVC be set for LiPo? If not, you could run your lipos down low enough to damage them.
3) What is the BEC output on your ESC. The higher the voltage of the pack, the lower the BEC output becomes.
4) make sure you have plenty of cooling air going over the ESC.
5) What motor are you using. A speed 280 will burn up pretty fast on a 3 cell lipo. A speed 400 will have a shortened life as well but it will run for a while. a speed 480 and up seem to handle 3 cell lipos OK.
I wrote an e-book on electrics. You can find it here and you should find some useful info:
