I am new here (but not new to radio control) so if I am asking this in the wrong place just let me know. I have been building radio control snowmobiles, but that is not why I am posting. I have been using the lay on fiberglass for the body and I was wondering if anyone out there has used the spray on technique before. It sounds easier but I am worried about not getting the same quality.

Also I cannot find where I insert my signature or avatar picture. Maybe since I am new I am not allowed to do that yet huh?

Thanks

What kind of fiberglass are you using; chopped mat or cloth?

Cloth can only be wet layed as you are doing; if you want to spray it, it needs to be chopped mat but chopped mat can also be wet layed.

I think spraying on chopped mat is kind of complicated and expensive for doing a handfull of anything, especially something as small as an RC model. Plus you still need to go over it with a roller once it has been layed to get everything pressed down on the mold.

I've only done wet lays by hand with cloth and chopped mat - I'm sure the gun is nice but I think its overkill for what you're doing.

This forum doesn't allow sigs and you need a certain number of posts for the avatar.

what are the odds. I am about to dive headfirst into my first endeavor with fiberglassing. sadly, it will not be on a rc, but a 1:1 truck. So, any advice/hints i should know about besides your "duh" info like clean the surface and be patient?

Its probably one of my favorite car related books in my library.

It may be a little overkill for doing a simple repair but if you're interested, its a good read.
