I wouldn't be surprised to see Traxxas extend the Villain line with a BL version, but Blast isn't likely to go BL. The combo of a 24" hull and steerable outdrive would make the little Blast a handfull with a VXL system on board, and then there's the cost; Tower lists the VXL system for about the same price as the entire Blast. Sure, some guys would buy it, just like some guys would buy a Cobalt with an LS7 shoved into it--but most would rather get the whole Corvette. Likewise, anyone with $250-$300 on a boat would probably want more boat than the Blast. Expect Traxxas to keep the Blast on point as an exciting, budget-friendly beginner boat.

Looks cool. I'm sure it will live up to it's name.

I have driven the older blast, and owned a villian IV, ( i regret letting that go to this day), and both are an absolute riot!!!

I agree with Pete, there is no need for a BL in something of the Blasts size, unless for straight-line runs. It does quite nicely as-is.

Now i need to start looking for another Villian :(

Tom, bring your "other boat" back with ya to the bash!

To be fair, Traxxas has taken a brushless system that costs about the same as the Rustler, Stampede, or Bandit, and stuck it in those. Those three were budget friendly beginner trucks/buggy. With that being said... The blast probably doesn't need a brushless setup to be fun (boats aren't exactly my thing, so I'd rather not talk out of my rear orifice about 'em;)).

(No, I wouldn't buy a Cobalt with an LS7....however, a Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky with that sucker.....that's a different story!):D

Oh indeed!

I'll probably bring them all. As I plan to stay at the same lakeside cabin as last year;)

been there done that with brushless on the blast..

basically the steerable outdrive flexes and the boat doesnt go straight under power. in order to be brushless it would need a hardware change. to a strut and rudder setup.

the blast is a ok pool skipper but if you want a fast electric there are MUCH better options out there..

I looked at boats for over a year till I ended up buying a Villian Ex
I love this boat but I would still like to have a crazy fast boat.
Come on traxxas out an out drive design together that will take the VXL system and lets see this thing rock.
There is nothing like a out drive boat's turnability!
Still like this little boat had one about 8 years ago in the old style water leaking design.
The way traxxas has gone with this new water tight thing is very cool.

the thing about having a crazy fast boat is hull design.. these hulls arent designed for speed they are designed to be bounced off some stuff a few times. youll reach the limit of the hull with a slightly modified setup..

best bet is getting a race proven hull from bby or someone else.. an el lobo from bandit boats will be faster on six cells and a 19 turn motor than a villian ever could be. and the difference is the el lobo is race trim that way.. where as the vilian would be outta control

the villian is cool if your pond cruising or are playing in the rough stuff but as far as building one for outright speed. your better off getting a race hull for around 55 bux from bby

All of you guys talking about BL boats...why not just buy one of the RTF options that have been on the market for a while now? Pro-Boat has the Blackjack 26 Brushless, and Aquacraft has the SuperVee 27. I haven't seen the Blackjack go, but I've heard it's a very nice little a boat. I've got a friend and a bunch of customers with SuperVee's, and damn they're fast. They'll literally blow a Villain right out of the water, yet they cost the same to buy and run. The Villain has a little deeper cut hull if I remember correctly, so I would think it probably handles rough water better than the SuperVee, but if you're looking for BL speed and reliability, there are options out there. You don't have to wait for Traxxas to do it.

As for this Blast...it looks great. The makeover has definitely improved the boat cosmetically, and performance wise it was already a great little boat for the price.

yeah the aquacraft miss vegas /supervee /supervee nitro/line is actually raceworthy. since mike (grimracer) started designing for them they are the only rtr boats you could take outta the box make VERY few tweaks to and put them on a podium finish. but as far as the proboat line leave those ALONEE!!!!!! the hull designs are HORRIBLE althought they look great.

Cool boat, but I guess the fact it is being posted here means we're basically merging the forums now? I understand visual presence in a higher traffic forum, but we don't need a boat forum if we are just going to cross post anyway.

Well this is a sub title off the "General" rc topic section,

and the redone blast is a new item, or hot news,,,

this particular topic is not truck car only,

and the boat forum does Not have a sub forum of hot news and new stuff,

therefore looks legit to me.
