Hi all,
I am trying to decide on one of these two machines. I have some traxxas stuff and one Losi and they are both great. But looking at the spec and features it seems the Losi might be ahead of these two. But I wanted someones input that maybe has both or has run both?
Thanks,
Bill

Losi does probably perform better in term of handling, but I have read on Rctech forum that it's difficult to get spart parts for it.
And it's exactly the opposite for the Rustler.
Once again it depend mostly of what you want to do with it

this subject has been brought up already, so you might find more responses in another thread to read. Going by what i have seen, the Speed uses a spool in the rear, which would make for some drivability issues. the TRX has steel gear trans/diff, so it should be fine. The Speed appears to have a bit more "race-inspired" suspension components, but the TRX has parts available damn near everywhere. If it was me,....the Rusty. The chassis has been around 14 yrs,..and proven itself over and over again as tougher than nails. The velineon offers some great features as well, with cooling fan aux. plug, 3s lipo capability, brush, brushless/ sensored brushless, low volatage protection for lipo,....ect. its not cheapo set up, its quite nice. People may knock TRX for being "basher/kid stuff",...but no one makes em tougher....for just that reason.

I have Traxxass trucks and have Losi and Xray and Sportworks. We took 2 mf2's and a nitro and electric rustler to the track Monday. Within minutes the nitro rusty broke, switched to electric and about 3/4 of a battery pack it's broke. Losi mf2's still going no problem. Got parts to fix nitro no parts luck for elec. nitro ran for about a hour and half before it broke something else. The 2 losi mf2's 1 broke a battery strap. Running brushless and lipo in both trucks. My vote Traxxas sucks!!

One day at the track with 4 trucks is not necessarily going to be indicative of the general quality of one company vs. another. ;)

^I agree.^
Anywho, I vote VXL.

Thanks all,
I agree one trip to the track doesn't tell the true story of all Traxxas. I have a Stampede I put the VLX system in. My son has a Rustler. And I have a Nitro Sport. And what I have read since I posted this and what you all have said, I think I might just stick to Traxxas Rustler VXL. I guess Monday I will be going to the hobby shop. I hope they have a red bodied one. I love the looks of that one.
Thanks for the push in the right direction.

Not to throw a wrench in the works here but what about the HPI Firestorm Flux? That truck might be a good balance between the race heritage of the Losi and the rugged bashing genes of the Rustler. If I were choosing a RTR BL stadium truck right now the HPI would be it.

I got bored today so just for something to do I figured I'd see how I liked the Brushless in a Rustler.
Converted my BL Pede to a Rusty.

Its much better for speed runs and handled pretty good I'll give it a few more runs before I deside if its going to stay this way lol

I say go with the new E-Maxx....lol! Ok between the 2 go with the VXL(for bashing), for racing use the AE RC10T4 and add a brushless system to it!

if you want an offroad id go with the rustler . but then if you want speed id go with the losi . but the rustler you will probably have more fun with cos it can go offroad. whereas the speed-t is a little too low to gow offroad. i had this same problem and i couldnt choose which one of those trucks i wanted so i just bought upgrades for my old car.

Get the all "NEW" t-maxx 3.3.
I have 4 traxxass trucks in my house and I would NOT recomend anyone getting one! They are put togther with wood screws, come on people open your eyes and look at the quality of the components used. If it's so great why is RPM all over making better parts for them. They don't make very many Losi or Associated parts, why they don't breake.
I will end my input here by saying we agree to dis agree on this.

It took me a 40mph carwheel to break mine on the second day of ownership. Broke a rear axle carrier. I tend to agree that the some of the suspension components do seem inadequate, but I i know losi is far more flimsier. I bought a complete suite of RPM suspension parts for my rusty vxl so I guess I should be good to go now. I would still prefer traxxas over losi because traxxas makes solid vehicles regardless of a slip up here and there. Plus they look better too :D
Edit: forgot to add that vehicle is a used one, original owner bought it in february and gone through maybe 5 or 6 packs of lipo (4A and 5.4A Venoms). I got it 2 weeks ago for $200 :D

I also vote HPI FLUX most versatile & best out of the box. (CC Sidewinder system) Check you local hobby shops parts stock. HPI is no problem for me but maybe in your area it’s different.
Rusty VXL is a very old design.
Speedt is the drag car of the lot. needs change if you want to turn much.

I have a 8EIGHT-T, XXT, MF-2 even a JRX-T from Losi. I also have had a few Rustler's over the years and i would 100% go with the Losi on this one for a couple of reasons. even though Traxxas doesnt put much effort in thier racing programs (wich they're getting better) you just dont ever see the rustler on many podiums. another reason wich i'm suprised to see was not mentioned here is the 2.4 DSM Radio over the highly attractive TQ system. The 2.4 system is so much better and it only takes 4 batteries to run. the rustler is a great first truck but my tax check is going to Losi.

i think losi makes a more quality product than traxxas.
i think i would rather say i owned a losi.
its like a chevy compared to a cadillac...
that being said i'm getting an e-maxx soon and i gonna beat the living hell out of it!

I say go with the vxl. I have a rustler and had it for more then 5 years didn't break one part. Also my friend had a bike jump and we put nere 25 step starcase and I want off that like ten times didn't break one part. Traxxas makes my happppy. Great rc maker!!!!

I have the Losi and it is awesome. Great looks and no real upgrades needed aside from the wheelie bar.
In hindsight I probably should have gotten the Rustler though.
I cartwheeled the T at 40 and broke both the rear arms and have to wait on new ones.
My LHS has a choice of new arms for the Rustler sitting on the shelf.

ok, how about a a chevy and a bmw.
my point is one company is like a luxury brand and the other is not.
