Hello all,
I’m in need of some desperate help. I have two cans of Coverite Balsarite Fabric Formula. One is old , the other I just bought in the pass few days.
I have use this stuff before some years ago. Now I don’t remember it being so thick. The new can is thick and doesn’t brush on as smooth as I thought is ought to, like in the way clear dope does. It globs up on the wood . The other older can is like my wife’s Jell-O that just won’t cure right. Very thick.
With the old thicker one , I tried mixing lacquer thinner to it. Nothing happen. I then tried a new batch of the older stuff mix with denatured alcohol , that was even worse.
The covering material I’ll be using doesn’t have any achieve on it at all.
What can I use to mix with it to thin it out ? Or is there a better brand I might try ?

I have has success with MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) available at some hardware stores.

Use extreme caution with MEK as it if pretty dangerious.

It has been awhile since I ask this question. I got my answer ( I think if I'm remembering right ) from Tower Hobbies web site.
I is said to use Top Flight's Monokote's Trim Solvent to thin down the formula. That is for all three types I believe. ( tissue, plastic, fabric )
It works very well. I just kept adding little by little until I got it as thin out as I wanted.
Trim Solvent seems to have faded out in all the hobby shops that I have around me. It never seem to work out well for me to use as it was advertised to be use for. That my be why , others have had the same problem too. So I bought a six pack of the stuff from Tower Hobby just to have on hand for the thinning process.
