GTB/SS10.5 Pro Brushless System is this a good set up for a XXX-T MF2
I've spent the last 1.5 yrs away from RC cars racing dirt bikes but due to a pretty bad crash were I completely separated my shoulder I'm quitting riding/racing dirt bikes for good this time and going back to the less impact of RC cars. I like brushless and I use to run the mamba max system but I want to run Stock class. Anyone been running these how do they work? Or is there another system that is better?

Thank you

Tim

This is quite a good system, not sure you could do much better for a brushless stock class. I think the 10.5 has a bit of an advantage over a brushed stock motor though (it can pull some pretty decent gearing). Novak made the 13.5 motor specifically to match up evenly with brushed stock. But if you're racing a 10.5 class or your track doesn't mind, you can't go wrong with that system.

For what it's worth, I have an SS5800 system with sintered rotor (equivalent to the SS8.5 Pro). But I don't race.

I don't think I'll race and might be going with the 13.5, I really want a 4wd mod but I remember how expensive those things were. I'm still in a sling after my surgery and will be in one for 4 more weeks but my set-up is starting to look like this
XXX-T MF2
A123's 4600 batts
Spectrum DX3R
Novak GTB/SS13.5 or 17.5
KO Props PS-2173FET servo

I should be starting to go back to the local Track in about two weeks I really missed driving RC's, I wasn't into racing so much for some reason I drive better when I'm just practicing but when I'm racing I end up making a lot of mistakes but just in case I rather have a Stock legal brushless system.

Make sure that A123 4600 pack will fit in that truck's battery tray. It's pretty wide. Should be sweet though.

I doubt they'll fit without modification. Dremeling will probably be necessary, or mounting the packs awkwardly. Don't let that stop you though! The A123s are interesting cells, and out of all the stuff on the market, possibly the safest from some of the videos I've seen of these A123 cells being DRILLED THROUGH while at full charge.

Not to concerned about a little modification to use the A123 packs, I really like the Mamba Max as I have that in the pastm its a toss up right now what I want to get the Mamba Max 4600kv, or the Novak system

The Mamba is a bit more versatile in terms of different motors that you can run with it (sensored and sensorless). The novak is the way to go if you will be running ROAR legal motors for racing. I have run the novak 13.5 and the 10.5 on the mamba and they run ok, but not the best coming off the line. After the car is rolling, you can't tell the difference. The lower turn, faster roar motors seem to run better on the mamba since their gearing is not as extreme. For example, in my sedan I have to gear the 13.5 around 4.4 or 4.5:1 to be competitive. The 3.5 and 4.5 motors are quite the opposite, they need very high gear ratios, 10:1 or more.

Non-roar motors seem to work just fine with the mamba controler, especially 4 and 6 pole motors. With my 6-pole mega motor you can't even tell that it is sensorless.
