What is the difference between an ESC and a BEC?
From 21Ohio I hope this will help you . Go to my thread on basic wiring design . Read the threads ,there you will find ( in blue) all that you might need to know.I owe a lot to AEAJR thanks again aeajr!! This site really helped me .Good luck in your endevor. Let me know if this helped you. 21Ohio

21Ohio to newcomer: this is in a nut shell; ESC-regulates the motors output for throttle control. The motor, battery, and ESC are all installed on-board the model. The BEC function supplies power to the radio and servos.Like I said this is just a simple explination. As mentioned go to my Basic Wiring Design and click on the BLUE there you might find more in depth on your qoestion Good luck. Got 4 flights in yesterday before 8:00am ,had a blast!! Good luck ,keep the plane away from the trees ,we,ve all been there 21 Ohio

Newcomer,
The previous posts are correct. I will expand a bid.
The ESC is essentially the throttle control system.
Integrated into many ESC, but not all, is the BEC, the battery elimination circuit. This eliminates the need for a separate receiver battery to power the receiver and servos. They require a steady 4.8 to 6 V. So the BEC steps down the pack voltage to 5V.
There is a third component, the LVC, low voltage cutoff, incorporated into many ESC. This monitors the pack voltage. When the motor is running, the pack voltage will sag. The LVC reads this voltage. If it drops too low, indicating that the battery pack is low on charge, it will cut power to the motor. This preserves power for the receiver/servos so you can maintain control of the plane and safely land it.
Hope that helps.
