Maybe someone can help me out here. I have a duratrax ICE charger and when I am charging my NIMH's they are getting very hot when they are done. For example I have an Orion 4300Nimh pack wired up as a sadde pack with deans plug. I made a charge lead from my charger with deans as well. I have charged the pack at 4 and 5 amps with the delta peak setting between 6/8 with the same result. I have tried two different power sources, a yellow top optima car battery and my current novak N power supply. I don't have a temp sensor yet. I am using the trinity Dyna-pulse discharger after every run to bring each cell down to .90v as directed by the battery label. The pack is only about a year old with a couple uses a week. The average mah the pack gets after a charge is between 3500 and 4000. sorry for the long read hoe someone can help. thanks

2 things to check...

1. Peak Delay at start... My Triton has a feature called "Peak Delay at Start" that keeps the battery from peaking at the beginning of the charge when it shouldn't. Make sure that's not set too high (more than 20 minutes or so).

2. Peak Sensitivity... Newer, high quality cells don't need a very high peak threshold. Try setting it to 4mV/cell instead of 8mV/cell. I've found that sometimes there's a "sweet spot" where it'll finally shut off at the right point.

I use the ICE to charge my GP3700 packs. Also I have the packs cooling while charging.

Settings:
5 amp charge
5 min peak delay
3mV peak
100*F Temp shut-off
100% Capacity shut-off

Batterys are going to get hot.
that's a fact of life.
getting them too hot can easily damage the cells, and give you shorter running time...
iff possible, charge your packs at a lower amperage..
unless you are in a huge hurry, there's really no need to quick charge.
Charging your pack more slowly can also improve the overall life of your battery.

So it's a win-loose situation
wait longer. better for you batt....
