Im sure many of you know the answer to this this and as do I but i just want to express my Anger. I called all the hobbie shops around asking about a Savage X 4.6. The most reasonable price was $470(aprox) and I think thats not bad, so I call my regular LHS and I ask them how much do they have the 4.6 for (assuming it would be less) and they said well right now they are out of stock but we retail it for $559. Im thinking What the hell man!! That is more then 100 dollers more then Tower hobbies!!! I called a bunch of other places that were closed ( but I didn't know cus they don't have their own website to post their hours...) But I got ahold of another place that has some good rc stuff and prides themselfs as a somewhat of a "big" place. I asked them if they had the X 4.6 instock and they said no, that is fine. Then I asked if I ordered one thew you guys, how much would that be? (I've bought stuff online before and I know how much it would be) He said $630.00. WOW WHAT IN THE HELL? So then I said ok so that would be including shipping and all that?? Nope that is the price of the truck. This just pisses me off... I beleive I live in the WORST city to be in RC.. Shipping costs a fortune and regular shipping takes eternity to arrive. Stores? Not worth going to. I'm going to give the other shops a call tomorrow. I remember one carried a whole bunch of cars and I'm hoping they will be better then 470.. If not I'll settle for that but a bad box.. Hope he carries more then 1 in the whole shop.. IF ANYONE KNOWS OF GOOD RELIABLE CANADIAN ONLINE SHOPS PLEASE.. PLEASE TELL ME THANK YOU. Oh and also share your experiences with %^&*(# up prices at the LHS.

I think they call it "kapitalism"

It's a chaos theory that got rid of communism in the early 90' and now it's getting rid of democracy too.

Damn. My LHS is usually within 20 bucks of Tower's price(Even on the Baja 5B), and even my local hobbytown USA doesn't gouge that bad.

I feel how you feel eli. But lately, the prices of LHS here in Ontario are now adjusting their prices. Some of them are almost if not, equivalent to tower hobbies price. But sometimes, with the TH coupon I am getting through mail, it is still much cheaper buying in the US than local. Heck, there are occasions the parcel pass through customs without being taxed...more savings for me.

Anyways, if I buy local on-line, I usually buy from Great Hobbies. The savage 4.6 is in-stock for $439.99.

My LHS is just slightly higher than the online places. I gladly pay the extra to do my part to keep the LHS in business. If the LHS goes away, where would we race? No hobby shop, no local tracks.

It may cost a little more, but I believe I get more in the long run.

How Much is shipping going to cost from Great Hobbies? I might buy there.. they gave a price 466 without shipping which I think is great. BTW I chose the second option for shipping ( the 2 day one)

I've ordered from great hobbies too. I can tell you that they charge actual shipping costs no handling fees.

That what makes Great Hobbies - great. They charge actual shipping. I always opt for the 2-3 day (Canada Xpresspost shipping). From Edmonton to Ontario, it arrives the next day. Just only add a few dollars more than regular shipping. Don't use the website to order. Call their toll-free number. You will be given a quote of how much the total cost will end up (kit, taxes and shipping).

I agree with hijacker. If no one will support our LHS, they will be out of business soon. But believe me, if you visit our so called LHS here 2 - 3 years ago (when US$ is greater than the Can$), man the prices are real sky high! As if they don't want you to buy from them :D. Lately, I bought some kits and parts at my LHS, the prices can be compared to US prices now.

Parts arnt half bad, but kits are still sky high. I saw a 8ight a few months back and it was at $870!! I bought a Losi XXX-S there RTR about uh.. 2 years back I believe.. I spent 400 + on that... I saw GP 3300 for $50 there.. I would gladly.. sooo gladly buy from LHS then from online, cus I don't have a credit card and I have to get my dad to buy it then I pay him back. Another reason is I hate waiting... I've waited to buy a nitro for 4 years now, I don't want to wait much longer.. This is why I'm searching so hard to find a decent deal at a LHS. If shipping is that good with them, I'ed buy from them, since I'm on Alberta's neighboring province so it should be really fast even with their slowest service!

While I agree that some prices are very high but you have to understand they don't get that great a deals on stuff. If your area is like mine lots of the LHS are going out of buisness because of online stuff. When I bought my B44 I could have gotten it cheaper online that a friend of mines cost on it. I used to always buy my stuff online but if we keep doing that it is going to be the only place you can get it which would suck. It also depends on what you are buying. Some stuff will be cheaper thru your LHS once you consider shipping cost.

I just bought a Tamiya High lift F350 for $400 at my LHS.. would cost $450 give or take on ebay. It is $360 on Tower.. I would rather spend the $40 and support my LHS and get it faster.

I guess it might depend on the size of the shop...small shop=higher prices large shop=lower prices

My hobby shop has slightly higher prices then tower hobbies, like 10%-20% more, but they have free practice at the track, so when I buy stuff there I am kind of paying for that too, so its fine for me. Oh, and no shipping charge:D. I usually buy big stuff online tho

I'm going to buy the Savage at the LHS. They got it for 470 and I can live with that, plus i got tmr and Tuesday off so I'll have time to break in/ tune if I can figure out a way to plug my battery in the roto start... Its odd really.. I thought that my regular LHS would have it cheaper since they are bigger, but the smaller place had it $80 cheaper.. We still have to charge to use the track even if it is practice.. Thats what I love about buying at LHS, instantly get it.. well almost you have to wait untill you get home to really open it.

For a Canadian shop to pay for taxes, duties & shipping they automatically need to add 30% to the MSRP.
I usually look online(canadian online retailer)& then I ask the local guys if they beat or match the price online. Also take in to account that shipping cost are rising to
