I am looking for pipes that reduce the noise level for both 1/8th & 1/10th. Someone said that any EFRA 3 chamber will do this. Any other ideas ? These racers would also like to keep the performance level about the same.

Are you comparing this to an open exhaust? Like no pipe at all?

Anything will quiet anything down relative to that. If you're running those old GS Storm buggies or anything like that, most pipes are also quieter...

How quiet are you looking for? ROAR mandates that pipes can not exceed certain decibel levels so most pipes are a pretty reasonable noise level. If you're still looking for quieter, you might consider trading in your messy nitro vehicles for something with actual horsepower.... Batteries. :D

Just trying to appease the neighbors by trying to tone it down. Looking at the Thunder Tiger EFRA 3 chamber pipes.

The stock tuned pipe that comes with CEN FunFactor and NX vehicles is considerably quieter than most, more of a muffler than a tuned pipe. It makes my 18 CV-RX seem rather civilized and composed, whereas the stock pipe from an NTC3 I'm running makes that thing about as loud as a drunken pirate :P

It is a bit small for big block engines, tho, so you will probably lose some power on them.

sorry to hijack this thread, but is that fun factor pipe a good one for the stock fun factor engine, or is there a better pipe I could get to improve performance of the engine??

The stock pipe actually isn't suited for the NT16, as the engine won't rev high enough to come onto pipe. The NT16 redlines at a rather low 32,000RPM, the stock pipe would be much better suited to a 40,000RPM redline onroad IMO. The stock pipe fron a side exhaust NTC3, however, will turn them into small ballistic missles. It will also be louder, sound a little rougher and make your low-speed mixture go lean, so beware when you first install.

If I were to replace it with the stock NTC3 pipe, Should I replace the header with the NTC3 one or could I keep the FF one on there? I would just have to tune the low speed needle then right? And would this pipe result in higher engine temps?

Old header is fine. The NTC3 header is far too long because the exhaust port in that car is farther back, and won't come out enough to clear the chassis/motor mounts as the pipe is tucked up closer on the touring car.

As far as temps, if you keep the tune good they won't change, but I noticed on my .18 CV-RX that this change did cause my previously rich low-speed mixture to go a smidge lean, and my rich highspeed to go to dead perfect. I suggest a complete retune.
