Hello everybody. :wave:I don't even have a RC airplane yet. I am buying one from a friend this weekend. He's had it for 5 years, used it once, and became frustrated when he couldn't fly it. It sat in his garage for 5 years. Now I am buying it cheep. After I pick it up and read thru all the material he has, I will come back to find out some tips on operation methods.
My main question would be...
Should I attempt to fly this airplane on my own:D, or get some help in that area? I've heard its pretty hard to fly if you've never done it.
Thanks
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Welcome to RC flying!
I can't give you an absolute answer to your question without knowing which plane you are getting. A lot has changed in 5 years and I suspect that the plane that you will be getting will not be a very good plane for a beginner to start with. Please indicate as best you can the exact model and manufacturer, electric or nitro, etc.
This site is not a very active site, particularly for beginners. I would suggest that you check out the beginner sections in the following forums: RCUniverse.com; Wattflyer.com; RCGroups.com.
On the plus side is the fact that there are many very good beginner planes currently on the market. Your best option would probably be to set aside the plane that you are buying from your friend until you have a decent amount of experience. Start by getting a simulator program for your computer. There are a number of excellent programs that you can buy, and there is a decent program (FMS) that you can download for free. After you have gotten some experience on the simulator, buy a really good beginner plane. The two best are the HobbyZone SuperCub and the Multiplex EasyStar. They are both available Ready-To-Fly (RTF) for around $160. This means that everything you need comes in the box; there is nothing else to buy. Some relatively minor assembly and off you go, into the wild blue yonder! If budget is a big problem, there are some less expensive, but still decent, beginner planes that you can get. Let us know what plane you are buying from your friend, do some research, and then get started in this wonderful hobby. Welcome aboard!
