I turned 50 yesterday and I have always wanted to get into the radio control airplane hobby. Rather than buy what I wanted (a stick built WW2 fighter), I followed the advice on this forum and ordered a HobbyZone Super Cub. I think it is important to get into the air ASAP and to do it with a forgiving trainer. I also ordered some 2.5" wheels for the Super Cub.

My true interest is stick built WW2 aircraft, but that should be maybe a third or fourth airplane. I did several static balsa planes when I was younger and enjoyed it, but I never got into RC because of the cost. Finally the cost has come down, and I'm impressed with the advances in electric motors.

Thanks for the advice.

Happy Birthday Terry!

You made an excellent selection. If you have access to a simulator, it can be very helpful. Also, carefully read the information for beginners presented by AEAJR. http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18

Then go fly and have some fun!

How's it going? Are you moving up to war birds yet?

:DIt's great to hear their are others like me.... I have similar passions and age. I love warbirds and have built several stick glow birds. I switched to electric not to long ago and started with the GWS Slow Stick. That cub you are talking about is a great flier and I have observed many others flying it. Don't stop building even if you can't fly it yet.
Double thumbs up to a flight simulator like Realflight (they have your airplane available on their swap page for free download) it really helps...:D:D:D

Terry,

Give us an update.

I started flying RC at 49, so we are on the same track. That was 5 years ago and I am addicted. I need help. A new plane would help! :D

So how are you doing?
