View Full Version : New Losi 1/10th RTR on 8/29/08
http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p347/rccanews/NewLosiSneak.jpg
Losi announced that they will be delivering a new RTR on 8/29/08 for $179.99. Till then we'll have to play armchair engineer.
Any guesses? Mine is that it is a new truck to compete with the Traxxas Slash.

Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!
I know!
It will be a closed wheel desert truck based on the XXX-T... again.
Or an RTR nitro truck... that would be horrible.

For $179.99 I doubt it.
My guess is a XXX-S Chassis of the Dirt Oval/L8IGHT since it is the same price as the slider

Just what the HOBBY needs...another 1/10th scale RTR. And, can you believe the marketing genius that we are seeing?......WHEW!! I know I'll be sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what type of RTR 179 dollars buys me from Losi....
Can Losi just announce they are going to start selling in WALMART and get it over with please?...
I bet ya its a 2wd Raminator/Ramcharger. Based off the XXX-T chassis. It will compete against the Traxxas Stampede and the 2wd HPI Wheely King. It will have new 2.2 chevron tires and wheels. Just my guess???

Well, it's pretty safe to assume it won't be brushless. If it is, and it's good quality, I'll buy one of whatever it is.
I bet it's not based on the xxx-s/drift-r because that chassis costs more than 179, let alone the electronics.
l8ight? 1/8 scale... they say 1/10.
Or, they could actually release something NEW. That would be amazing. Heck, maybe even a crawler?
Who knows... It's fun to speculate though! :D

It wont be a crawler... the Losi Mini Crawler is smaller then 1/10 and is like $230 or so. A 1/10 size would be more expensive.
The CORR truck copy is a good guess, but I would think Losi's version would have been more expensive then $180...
The 1/10 late model would be a good guess... they seem to be pushing the oval stuff lately...

Well, I will speak for those of us out there that are on-road fans that I hope that it is an on-road car, perhaps a pan car. So long as it's not yet another off-road vehicle! They are all we seem to see anymore!
I know the off-road fans are going to be ticked at me for this but honestly, for the past year or two you guys have had it all your way! All the manufacturers have jumped on the off-road bandwagon as well as the rc magazines ( who I blame for over-promoting off-road over on-road to the buying public). I know you are going to say that off-road is what the majority are demanding, and you are probably right; but what about those of us who prefer on-road cars and racing. We deserve equal treatment.
I propose that we on-road fans get off our lazy butts and demand that the manufacturers and the rc magazines hear us and give us some more new product. We want parity with the off-road stuff! it is only fair.
So come on fellow on-road fans, make yourselves heard!!!

Team Lotus brings up some darn good points......
with the exception of some higher end stuff, and a few on roads, the market does tend to lean for off road as of late.
Imagine,..if you will, that Losi heard our cries, and is offering a 1/10 4wd shaft driven EP truck tho??????
That in itself would rock the world of rc.

being the 1/10 slider is at $239 or so I really don`t see the late model coming out at that much less. in the 1/18 scale there is not that kind of price difference.
SO what I am getting at even though I would LOVE to see a 1/10 latemodel for this price I just don`t see it happening!

New from Losi: They are getting into the RTR boat market!
It's a 1/10th scale Nimitz-class supercarrier. Perfect size for your bathtub - that is if your bathtub is over 100 feet long.
Comes with full compliment of 1/10th scale navy jets, with 1/10th scale armaments that can destroy stuff 1/10th the size of stuff the full size ones can. Ship radar can monitor and area 1/10th the size of the full size one's capability.
This ship is perfect for people/nations who are 1/10th: as arrogant, willing to borrow money for military expenditures, and fascinated with stuff that goes bang as us Americans. It's also Losi quality.
*Giant bathtub not included
*1/10th scale axis of evil countries not included
*1/10th scale banner of "Mission Accomplished" sold separately.
*Operation of 1/10th scale nuclear generator at your own risk.
*Not responsible for loss of birds, dolphins, whales, people on jetskis, skiers, and light aircraft (and people in them) caused by unintentional or intentional use of this product.

There's already a thousand different touring cars out there. There's several pan cars to choose from. You have 1/18-1/5th scale cars. You can only drive around on pavement so many different ways. The reason there's so many off-road cars is because most people don't want to be left on the pavement. 80% of this hobby is bashing. That means tearing up the lawn, catching big air, etc. Basically everything you can't do with an on-road car.
More people though would probably be into on-road if it wasn't so stupid expensive for tires, etc. But off-road blue groove (ugh) is the same way. It eats tires for lunch. But then again, I don't race on it.
$179 for a RTR, or $500+ for a X-Ray T2 or a Tamiya 501X buggy plus everything you need to make it rtr, which way do you think the noob walking into the hobby shop is going to go. Companies like X-Ray (Not bashing them at all, they are just one of the higher end brands) do not bring new people into the hobby, unless they are looking to go 1/18th scale. Its all the "Oh no not another cheesy RTR" cars and trucks that do. This hobby needs all the help it can get. Kids these days would rather sit in front of a tv with a game controller in their hand then actually have to get up and do something.

It's a sort of thread polution:p
In France, our best drivers begin with 2WD. Around 80's, it's the "ware" between front and rear drive, and the death of front 2WD, but we can find only home made 2FWD now.
Juste an exemple of a 2WD on RC8 base, it's like a 1/10th gaz truck, but for the rule, it's a 1/8th 2WD, with RB 0.21 engine :)

lol, I'm just speculating based on the history of Losi and A-Arms, combined with large front tires and a lack of kickup. The lack of kickup greatly increases the stress on the arm because the load is placed laterally along the length of the pin instead of in the direction of the 'hinge,' especially near the hinge pin, where the stress is most concentrated due to the low cross-sectional area.
Not an educated speculation at all though and I have no idea what I'm talking about.

I was close. Its not the licensed monster truck but I was the first to guess a competitor for the Stampede.

That's pretty cool. It's definately a Stampede competitor, but they're not really positioning it as a Monster Truck. It's more like the super-huge street trucks you see at SEMA. I can see it as being marketed as the cheaper alternative to buying a Maxx and all the chrome goodies to go along with it, versus the Pede's performance focus.

That looks pretty cool! I will take back the words I said earlier =P. Finally someone took out that old bland Stampede that Traxxas never did a thing about for many years. Different electronics, new paint, wheels, and tires does not count!
The price seems good. But another RTR to pollute the hobby is still very disappointing.

lol, I'm just speculating based on the history of Losi and A-Arms, combined with large front tires and a lack of kickup.

I would worry more that KYOSHO's are now gonna start breaking arms....( if you get my drift)...

Seems to be a Stampede competitor. I think it's great for the market, something to stand up to the Stampede, looks pretty cool too.

Not much. And the front shocks are near vertical. Looks neat, but is pretty much not functional.

Looks wise they definitely hit the nail on the head. I think it looks fantastic, but does anyone else see some durability problems with it? I mean really...check out that front shock tower. I hope I'm wrong, because I'll probably end up getting one of these to go with my Desert Truck, but it doesn't look like it'll hold up all that well. Oh...and why couldn't they have made it $199 instead and included the 2.4 radio system? That would have been their best selling point over the Stampede, but now the main selling point is that it's not Traxxas...and that's not much of a selling point in today's market.

there isnt really nothing different from all the stampede models, the vxl's main difference is the bl setup. something new that everyone and there mom hasnt played with and another 100-150 for a used bl setup for a sweet ride that hasnt been played out. ;):D

Don't forget the steel gears in the transmission and the hex head screws for the VXL models as well (over the XL-5 models).

You're forgetting the revised hubs with 5x11 bearings all around, and the digital servo that's actually pretty good (a true first for a Traxxas radio product), meaty 4mm steel turnbuckles everywhere, and a much better looking body. The VXL is the no-brainer buy in the Stampde lineup. $250 in upgrades for only about $100 more? Sign me up for that please.
As for this Losi thing, the more I look at the pictures, the more fun it looks. I'll be buying the first orange one that comes into the shop. :D

thats not really a main difference for me, a screw is a screw, their gonna need replaced after some time and thats when you upgrade, we havent seen whats inside the losi tranny, it could be steel gears too. im speaking from what everyone would get a vxl for, and that would be the bl setup that comes with it. im sure losi will release a bl ready one if this one sells enough and has enough interest. would be cool, than it def would be something to compete with the vxl pede.

to me it`s a big let down. just a rehash of a Stampede from a different manufacture.
I was hoping for something like a 1/10 latemodel but I knew the price was too low for theat to happen.

No, it's not. Losi did in fact release something new, but, IMO, they were about a decade or so too late. If this came out with the Xl-5 series, THEN it would have been a "whoooo-hoooo" moment, but, now, it's just a " oh."
