I just put together the new Spad XIII from Electrifly! It is amazing looking and I think it might be best of the entire WW1 series.

A nice feature of the Spad is that there are three formed plastic parts that are held in place with magnets. The nose ring, the top deck (with machine guns) and the chin panel in front of the landing gear

The covering is all MonoKote and it has several layers to form the "sand and spinach" camo. Overall, the finish is very nice. The scale marking are a little off, the #1s on the wing and the fuselage side should have a red pinstrip around them and the wing band should be a tri-color strip or red, white and blue. But hey, this is not a scale competion plane either...

The landing gear is similar to the other Electrifly WW1 plans and it is made of aluminum. It is screwed to the bottom wing and the belly pan (also formed plastic) comes painted and needs to be glued to the wing bottom surface.
The aileron servos are in the wing and though the instructions say to use a Y harness, I used seperate leads and mixed in some differential control into the ailerons.

Here's my new squadron! Old SE5a meets the new Spad XIII
Looks really nice. The Spad XIII is my favorite WWI plane.

That is a pretty cool looking aircraft. Have you had a chance to fly it?

Hey John, no not yet! Have to wait for the cover shots to be taken before flying it! That's why it is only going to be "on display" at Rhinebeck! It's killing me to have it all ready to go and then not be able to fly it there!

I just flew the maiden flight on mine today.
Flys nice, but it is SPAD and not for the beginner.

It is a fun plane. I just need to find a Fokker to chase.
