does anyone think a 1/10 speed control will run the double motors since they are smaller than the 1/10 scale motors?

Yes. Tazer 15T should work fine.

i am goin to try it with a duratrax and see if it will work till my new one comes in

Almost any 1/10th scale esc will work with both stock motors. Buy a nice small esc like a gts and never fry a esc again.

Should be fine I'm sure. The Tazer was just a suggestion if you didn't have anything lying around.
