I've got an old Kyosho Assault (model from 1983 so 25 years old), and it still has the original receiver and servos in it. Problem is, the range at which it loses connection with the transmitter seems pretty short, only like 50 meters, and I'm guessing that this isn't right.

So you think the antenna to the receiver could be broken somewhere in the cord? Or what could be the issue? The transmitter is new btw.

And another question. When it loses connection with the transmitter, it just goes ballistic, the servos gets stuck in whatever position they were in, which is really bad if it's set on full throttle. So do modern receivers have like a failsafe which will reset the servos to their neutral position if it loses connection with the transmitter? If so I might actually switch to a modern receiver to save my car.

You're probably using old wide band rf technology since it's from the early 80s. They switched to narrow band in like 91 or 94 if I remember correctly.

I'd buy a new radio and get a failsafe, or even better, a 2.4GHz radio (Airtronics MX-3FHSS) that has a failsafe function built in. :)
