I'm building a low wing ARF stunt plane that calls for a .40 size engine. I have an OS FX .40 that I want to put on it. The plans call for me to mount the motor up-side-down. What's involved with that. Do I need to do anything different? Is it going to run that way?

Also, the firewwall has a hole in it with markings that indicate to me that it is supposed to be the center, but it is definetly not the center. The directions are so bad with this plane - am I to mount the motor in the center of the firewall, or do I mount it as though the hole were actually marking the center? In other words, if I use mount the motor over the hole, it will be a little off center - but maybe that will counter the weight of hte muffler - I don't know . . .

Help. Thanks.

Sorry - shouldn't have posted three threads. Just wanted it to be seen by the right people. Thanks.

Wish I could help. I fly electric and gliders. We don't have these issues. Of course we have other issues. :)

Good Luck!

I hope you got some response to your questions previous to this! I'm uncertain why someone would post if they really can't shed any light on the subject, aeajr!

I would never suggest running 2 cycles upside down, especially to someone new to the sport (I ssume your having posted this in the beginners forum, that you therefore are a berginner). It can make operation of the engine difficult! Designers do this purely for aesthetic reasons, only, and the public rather insists that it be done for aesthetic reasons, only. Two stroke run far better upright; or, side mounted, with the exhaust port down. Proponants for the aesthetic reasons, will argue for running them upside down until everyone is "Blue in the face"! Statistic wise you'll find there are simply more engine problems with doing so.

I'm sorry I did not see your post sooner! Hopefully your questions were answered, elseware. Good luck!

Gotta love those chinese instructions--not! Center the motor in the center of the firewall. Don't worry about the hole is, it is for fuel tubing and stuff.

Mounting motor is no a big deal as long as it is tuned correctly. If it running to rich it will tough to keep it going.

Happy Landings
