which version of firefox did you install? and do you remember which URL you downloaded it from? If so share it with us.

all i know is when my buddy installed it he got it from their website and when it kept saying to update from time to time, i did it.

Hmmm. uninstall it completely, and then download the new version from here
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
The update probably fouled something up, it's happened to me before. Try it and let us know how it goes.

I think he meant spyware could be causing the problem...

Download/install/run spybot S&D. It probably needs to be done anyway, and even if it doesn't fix this particular problem, it's still a good idea.

Usually when something like this happens to me, a registry cleaner helps out a bunch. However, good ones aren't free, and a lot of the online ones just end up causing more problems.

Did you just update?

The shortcut could have changed....

Try finding the actual program link in C:/Program Files/Mozilla FireFox/Firefox

If that works, then right click on it, select 'send to' then 'desktop (create shortcut)'

Delete your old icon from the desktop and you should be good to go.

Fester, don't worry about your pc taking a dump. I'm almost certain it's the firefox updates which caused this failure, and the uninstall program probably isn't removing everything. are you running windows XP or Vista?

Did you ever do a PC restart during this process? That can do miracles sometimes. I have to do this periodically for Firefox.

It is amazing to see such old threads come back to life. It happens more often than me posting here... hehe
