When I was in the US, my neighbours in the ocmmunity quite liked seeing my cars buzz by, their take on things were that fast R/Cs by and large were limited to noisy nitro powered machines while electrics were relegated to Walmart and Radioshack. When I showed the more technically inclined people what was under the lid, they were quite impressed. I actually had a guy stop his car in the middle of the road, hop out (wife was in the car too) and blabber on about how cool my e-revo was zipping about, and how he used to dabble in the hobby 20 years ago. Most drivers give me a thumbs up when they see my vehicles pulling crazy wheelies. I don't think I've ever really annoyed anyone, most of the time I do pull up on to the sidewalk to allow them passage. And the kids love them, although I do have to continually warn them to stay out of the way, and often use a broken 2 foot concrete post which was a result of my e-revo crashing into head on with the ACNCM skid plate.

Do you guys have any interesting stories concerining your R/Cs and the public at large?

I like to chase cars down the road with my BL slash and did when I had nitro stuff. I often had people slow down and I could see a look of "What in the!!!" in their face as this little car comes flying up to their rear bumper. I also have baseball fields behind my house and thats where all the kids seem to show up and watch. Last week when I was driving my slash in the baseball diamond there were these 4 kids standing on the other side of the fence watching and i drove up to where they were standing and as I was turning around I pinned the throttle and flung a bunch of dirt at them :D they all laughed and giggled and I could hear em saying how cool it was.

My father inlaw and his dad like to sit outside and watch when i run mine up the street or on my track in the yard infront of our homes ... Only when I hit the street and my father inlaw is in uniform does he say hes going to give me a speeding ticket if I keep those antics up .. Its usually dimissed with a wink of the eye and HIS DAD saying LEAVE THAT POOR MAN ALONE HES ONLY HAVING FUN .. I also like taking my kids to the park and taking alng a few rides with me to ocupy my time from spiing the carousel with 10 kids on it .. I usually take one truck and stick it out on the baseball field and tear up the nice clay while jumping over the pitchers mound .. Also while at the park I like taking one of the 1/18th scale trucks i have and slowly drive it past the toddlers and stop until the go to pickit up .. Then i move it up just out of reach .. They giggle and move up to try to pic it up again .. I move just a bit more and we have tons of fun .. It usually only take about 2 min or so for the parents to spot me and give me the wink .. Dads come over and talk while moms just usually laugh ..

I live in a Townhouse so I use the parking lots for on road action... usually the Brushless rustler or the T-maxx..I have never had anyone complain and usually they will just stop and watch for a few minutes.. alot of times some of the local kids will stop by and hang out for a while and watch... sometimes they will ask to drive one, but I decline them in a very nice way... I have used the baja as well in the back parking lot, but I hit a car once and caused a good deal of damage to the car.. thankfully the owner was a friend who was getting rid of the car anyway so no big deal... overall, I respect my neighbors so I don't have any problems..

I find one of the funnest things is when you're in the park minding your own business, and a dog owner comes along. Watching most dogs reaction is classic. They are like a wild beast in a cage (when they are on their leash). They are pulling and bucking like a wild bull and barking like crazy trying to run down and chase the car. I am always laughing when the dogs go crazy like that, because the owner of the dog is doing the same. They like it because the dog gets all the exercise it needs while the owner is laughing hard out. It's a great feeling :D

It's also great fun racing cars down the street with my brushless B4. People don't expect a little "toy" to catch up right beside them doing 30km/h, and then I have enough power to pull a wheelie and say adios to them. When people see it for the first time they just drive off. But later when they see it again, they stop in the middle of the road and open the window and talk about it and sit there like a little kid in a candy shop, in amazement at how fast it is.

Of course, you also tend to meet lots of people who claim they know everything about RC, when last year they got their first ever car, always a nitro, and have broken it beyond recognition because they can't drive it to save themselves. They start preaching on about nitro being the bee knees, and lecture me about RC and how they know so much about electric, that's why they went nitro. Yeah ok!!!!!!! I put my car back on the ground, turn on the switch, pull the trigger, and then they are gobsmacked. It is great fun changing their opinions on things. THAT is priceless showing them where they went wrong getting nitro as their first ever car.

nothing positive. just being kicked out of parking lots, parks, schools, constructing sites, church's. arguments, a couple of fist fights. cops, cops and more cops. pissed off neighbors. hit a guy with my radio for giving me attitude one time, that was pretty cool.

back in about 2000 im rolling down a residential street, at the time i was driving a lifted F150. some dumb kids t-maxx comes down a driveway and into street. i ran it over. lol next thing i know kids mom is yelling at me. it was great!

in the late 90's (i think it was 99) i was driving a bug that was slammed, had no deck lid and no rear apron. engine was exposed. some kid thought it would be cool to chase me with his truck. i got about 3 houses down and nailed the breaks. he went slamming into the back of my car. hit the crank pulley, truck got caught up in the pulley and belt, it ended picking up the truck and flinging it into a parked car! that was awesome! wish i could have seen that from behind.

back in 2001 i chassed a kids truck around a dirt lot trying to run it over with my pre runner. me and some friends were running a dirt lot, this idiot kid shows up turns his radio on and fires up this truck and starts running. was on the same frequency as me. makes my truck go out of control into a fence and breaks. me and this kid exchange 4 letter threats. i get pissed, went got in my truck, jumped the curb and went chasing after his rc car around the lot trying to run it over. couldn't hit it, so i went after him. as he's running away from me my friends stole his truck! busted it all up.

RC cars aint exactly accepted by the public around here. its kind of like skateboarding. you have to be prepared to be harassed by authority for no reason if your going to do it outside of your own backyard

LOL, No reason?? Deliberately slamming on the brakes in a real car to see what happens to the guy following, or chasing down an RC car in a real car, or worse, the driver of the RC and then mutilating his ride doesn't sound like no reason to me!

I am lucky to have an abandoned parking lot about a mile from my house. I just pack up my stuff to go run real quick. I have run in the street on occasion and nobody has ever stopped me.

We have some friends that got a black lab puppy not too long ago and a month ago or so they were going out of town for the weekend. They asked me to puppy sit for them and being a black lab lover I agreed. They told me that I needed to play with him a lot during the day otherwise he would be up all night. So the first day I threw the ball in the backyard till my arm felt like it was going to fall off. Duke, the puppy, still had energy to spare so I took him over to the dog park to run around. After about 2 hours he still wasn't tired. I just couldn't wear him out. The second day I threw the ball for him as much as I could but again, endless energy. So I pulled out my TC3 and decided to drive around. Duke went absolutly nuts chasing it up and down the driveway. He was done for the day in about 20 minutes, lol. What had taken me all day the day before now took 20 minutes.

Most everybody I come across have a positive reaction to my cars, especially kids. Almost all the kids want to drive them but I don't trust my 35mph 13 pound brushless Emaxx to any kid, lol. I have a Tamiya Wild Dagger with some silver can stock motors that I usually take with me and let all the kids drive it, its pretty much indestructable so I don't worry about them breaking it. Every once in a while you get the negative nancy who can't find anything positive about our hobby. I just shrug them off and keep playing.

i try to avoid people when i run my cars, its just safer that way. nobody's going to jack you, nobody's going to get in your way, nobody's going to bug you and ask you a million questions that iv already answered a million times in the past. i don't even like running in front of my own house because of the kids on the street.
iv never had any issues good or bad with traffic. i always get me and my car out of the street before the car gets up to me. usually everybody slows down cause they are afraid of hitting it or me. by the time they get up to me i ether have my car behind me or beside me with my foot in front of it, just in case the radio glitches. i try to hide it from the general public.
i stay out of there way, they stay out of mine. me and the public have an agreement like that :D

you ran over some kid's t-maxx and laughed.
someone shows up to run their truck, an innocent and common mistake happens(that wouldn't happen that often with technology now). your truck broke(its part of the hobby) and you decide its a good idea to get in your real truck and chase him, then your awesome friends steal his truck.

If his stories are true he will find himself in trouble eventually, trying to run somebody over if seen by a law enforcment officer would not be taken lightly and would be charged accordingly. My advice to bug racer is think before you act. Thats all I have to say.

chasing down an RC car in a real car, or worse, the driver of the RC and then mutilating his ride doesn't sound like no reason to me!
that kid had it coming. he showed up with a chip on this shoulder, turned on this radio. it interfered with one of our cars so we start yelling at him to turn it off he's on the same frequency. we had one guy chasing a glitching truck, one guy running for frequency crystals, one guy after the kid (in a non threatening way). the hole time this kid is spewing profanity's about how this is his bash spot and telling us to get out. it was public land, and we cut a chain off the gate to get in there. at that point our RC car crashed and broke. it went head on into a steel pole at almost full speed. it bent the chassis and broke the front suspension all to hell. the situation got heated, and it hit the fan. next thing i know this kid is running for his life from 3 angry skinheads ready to give him a boot party. i herd a truck start and buy the time i turned around there was an S10 flying through the gate. the kid went over a fence, so they grabbed his RC car and beat the hell out of it.
all the kid had to do was shut his radio off until we could change the frequency of our car and everything would have been fine. but instead he had to act like a macho a-hole, which caused the situation to get WAY out of hand. and believe it or not, there were no cops involved in that incident.

I've chased cars down a few times, and gotten in the way a few times, but be polite and apologize and usually everything is fine. And yeah, all the kid had to do was be a little diplomatic about the situation. A little diplomacy goes a lot further than a lot of fighting.

Ok, but trying to run the kid over with your 1:1 car? Thats taking it a bit far.
