I've not owned a high end Tamiya touring car. However, I will have to one day. They're very expensive but the quality looks incredible. The problem is, it'll be outdated by April.

Not to worry, the 415 is still a viable car for serious competition(which is why the 416 is so much like the 415, Tamiya's been good about not trying to fix what's not broken). I still have my 415 MSX & I use it in the new Vintage Trans-Am class, & as such it has run near flawlessly. Only issues I've ever had with it are the way the screws in its steering rack can sometimes bump into the front bulkhead(if a screw loosens any), & the way I had to do some surgery to the rear bulkhead to get a good LiPo battery to fit(namely my SMC 28C 5000mah pack, the part of the bulkhead that usually sits over the cells in an old battery pack prevent my SMC pack from being used at all, so I had to cut it away, as the pic will show). But it still works fine, & the car still handles great(but I will admit I love my 416 even better, so I use it for standard TC classes, so smooth, so much rear grip & it needed no modifications to fit LiPos). I'd say if you have a shot at getting a 415 at a good price, then go for it, you won't regret it...

cheers for the info . do you have any pics of your trf 416 that you can post on this thread. also if you had to buy a new tamiya trf which would you buy the 415 or the 416?

There's no doubt, with money not being an issue, I'd take the 416 any time, it's the BEST handling car I've ever had(& I've been at this for almost 20 years, the last 12 or so dedicated to touring cars). But if money is tight(& considering the price of a new 416, I can see many being reluctant to take the plunge), one can find a good deal on a good 415, & as I said, I do still consider them quite race-worthy(& that's why I've taken my MSX out of semi-retirement to run in the Vintage Trans-Am class(not to mention its transmission's outdrive ratio works out well for my powertrain of choice, the LiPo/Novak 21.5 brushless combo, lets me gear it VERY close to where I want it within their rules)....
Oh, & since you asked, here's a couple of pics of the 416.....

Actually, those pics you found are NOT of a 416, they're the 415 & the TA05MS. Look on Tamiya's site(try www.tamiyausa.com & check out their TRF section) & you'll see pics of pretty much ALL of the TRF cars, from the 414X(their first prototype of what developed into the car we have today) to the new Worlds Edition of the 416......
