Hey guys. I havent been on in a while, mainly because i havent had the money to mess with a nitro r/c and my electrics kind of get old. But today, I got the chance to mess with one of these Himoto trucks. A friends nephew got this truck for Christmas from his mother. I havent talked to the guy in a while, but he remembered me talking about having a nitro r/c before, and they were having problems getting the truck to run. He was coming out my way anyways, so he came by here with the truck. It is a 1:10 Himoto 4wd truck as seen here:

I thought at first that it may just be that the motor was cheap and not well built enough to run good. These people have never had a nitro r/c before and they didnt know anything about break in on it, or how to take care of it, so when he got it here I took off on tuning it. Keep in mind im a little rusty on my tuning skills. It started right up with the electric start, so I started at the factory needle settings. 3 turns out on each needle according to the instructions. The instructions were very vague, but they gave some starting points, so I went with it from there. I ran about a tank out of it messing with the high speed needle. Didnt do any hard running, just was trying to get it to rev decent while i held it still. I got that ok, then i started with the low speed. The motor was warm, so i knew it should idle. I tried to let it idle, and it would idle ok for about 5 seconds then sputter and die. It wasnt smoking much so i richened it. Well, it didnt really help it, so I was a little stumped. It ran decent driving it around, it just wouldnt idle. So, I kept messing with the idle mixture, and the idle speed screws and finally started making progress when i started leaning it out. Once i figured out that was working i went with it until I had it idling perfect. It wasnt creeping at idle, and the idle was smooth as butter, and no hesitation or stuttering when going wide open from a stop. Then i went on to fine tune the top end with the HSN. I had it a little rich, so I leaned it out 1/2 turn or so and drove it. It was running great, but there wasnt hardly any smoke, so I richened it up a little more till i got a nice haze out the exhaust with no sputtering or anything. After the 3rd tank of tuning this thing was running great. Had good power, no hesitation anywhere in the RPM range, and it was smooth as butter. I really like how the truck looked and i was very impressed with how great the motor ran after i got it tuned in. Im not sure how durable it is, but I sure had fun driving it. Ill have to admit, After not tuning/driving a nitro r/c truck for a good 3 years it sure was a good feeling when i got that baby running good and was driving it around:D It probably wont run well for long since a younger kid has it and wont take care of it, but i was glad i got to tune and drive it some.
Im just curious if anyone else has experience with one? How durable are they, and does the motor seem to hold up well? The motor looks like an HPI knock off, is it? I dont plan on buying a himoto, but it sure made me want another nitro r/c:D I had a blast just tuning trying to get it to run well, and then when my work paid off it was even better. It sure seemed like a much better deal than my first nitro I bought for $200(the cost of this one). I never could get my first one to run(tower hobbies nitro st-15).
Sorry for the long post, Im just pretty excited to have got to mess with one again today, and I was also really impressed with how well it ran.:D Hopefully i broke it in pretty well while i was tuning on it so that it will run well for them.
Opinions/experiences and anything else is welcome:cool:
