I like the LST or the savage

Savage all the way! Unless you race, then get the revo. Savage is the most durable by a long way.

Looks like you are looking at an MT.

I would look at:

Losi Aftershock
Tamiya TNX 5.2r
Traxxas Revo 3.3
HPI Savage X 4.6
Associated MGT 8.0

Forget MT's and buy a truggy...when you decide to race it you will be better off.

Ya, so far I've been racing....whats a good truggy to get?

Well for a truggy I would go with the RC8T from Associated or the Losi 8ightT. Both are good but the associated is newer so spare parts might be a problem. Losi parts are everywhere so thats the good thing about the 8ightT.

What is your budget range? That will define the selection. Also consider what is best supported in your area, and what races well for other guys.
Will you race weekly, or just a few times per season?

There are a dozen good truggies out there. Lots of perfectly good "last years" trucks still compete just fine. Guys who have to have the newest trucks sell off very nice gear for good prices. You can often get a deal search forums like this one, or RCTech (HUGE for sale area) or even eBay (be careful).

There are some very nice like-new Jammin trucks for sale here right now (chukb).

For the entry level, but still fine to race truggy, I really like the Thunder Tiger ST1, which can be had RTR for around $350-370. With minor changes it can race and be very durable. Just one example of what's out there if you do the research and shop carefully.

Good luck with the purchase.

About 500$, I figure that should at least get me something to start out with....

Well for $500 you can get a 8ightT RTR which is very race worthy. The Associated ones are around $600. Also it will cost you about $50-$100 more to buy fuel and other accessories.

That's not bad....

The 8ight also comes with a Spektrum DX2 radio which are very good.
