Hi, I am trying to get back into gas rc airplanes, but there is not a category for "gas rc airplanes outdoor" on the ama website; it does have category for electric rc airplanes outdoor. I have two gas trainers. Should I switch to electric? Can I join ama as a gas rc airplane?

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

thanks,

Bdel

Welcome back. If you have questions just ask away. I don't think in the beginner section you can go wrong. There is no reason to go to electric unless you want to. Have fun-that is what this is all about!

Thanks for the advice, and getting back to me. You're right, it is about having fun. Hopefully, I'll be able to spend some time this summer (July-August) to learn to fly, but also, to learn how to break-in my engines.

Again, thanks

Are you useing the other forums like RC Universe or RC Groups they get alot more activity than this one does. You can get detailed instructions on how to break in your motors.

Thanks again. I'll try both forums, and add them Favorites.

How are things going? Spring is almost here and will be able to get back outside. I have a couple of scratch built projects I am finishing up to fly. It has been warm enough but way to windy.

Hi, yes I am waiting for warmer weather, too. However, over the past couple months, I am looking at starting with electric. I have a good drive to get to the gas field (about 35 miles); the electrics allow me to get to a closer park. In fact, this past sunday the weather was decent and dry. I had just gotten a 15 inch wing planse (cessna hobbyzone). I went to watch the others fly. I had brought my new little plane, and strarted thinking that I have been using a computer simulator (great planes); so, I tried to fly. I got about 4 flight (about 90 seconds each-estimate), and on the 5th flight hit a fence and broke the prop. Then, I tried to disconnect the battery, and broke the wing.

Anyway, I found a new prop and glued the wing. I hope I put them on okay.

It was fun, and hope to try again if a another decent day comes up. In the meantime, I found a guy from the local rc club who is willing to train me. I getting a hobbico cesna with 34 inch wing and four channel; the trainer suggested this plane.

Sorry to be so wordy, I usually stop 3 word sentences, but this stuff is exciting.

Sounds like you had some fun! I only have electric right now. A friend of mine has some older fuel planes that I could try but happy with what I got. I have scratch built a Capricorn and my own version of a little Grasshopper. If you are interested in scratch building let me know. It is a inexpensive way for me to get back into flying.
