View Full Version : Who has gone the E-Revo route instead of upgrading the E-Maxx?

I have an old 3906 E-Maxx that I was planning on upgrading as I broke stuff with a Novak HV-Maxx system and Pro Line Wide Maxx arms installed with LiPos on route (good bye drive shafts and idler gear!). But now I am thinking maybe I should just try to get an E-Revo and transplant the Novak into it and not throw money into upgrading. I've always liked the design and technology behind the Revo platform. If I could get a rolling chassis I could pull it off pretty cheap. Anyone else had this same conundrum? Sway me one way or another!

The E REVO is head and shoulders above the E MAXX (especially the older ones) , sell it and get the E REVO , I picked up a BNIB E REVO roller for 230 from Ebay ...

Yes its not worth upgrading the 3906. I bought an E-Revo, and then decided I wanted and E-Maxx as well, so I got a 3905 almost NIB with a MMM v2 and a 7XL plus two EP 4200 packs for $400. A roller will be a great place to start from especially since you're going to go brushless. I had no one to help me out when I was considering the E-Revo because it had just been released, but I don't regret the purchase at all. It is a solid truck and very basher friendly. Plus it handles like a truggy, so no more somersaults under braking.

That's cheap... it would leave plenty of money to get an Airtronics MX-3 2.4 system as well... It's starting to become annoying to have a few AM radios and receivers, an FM radio and receiver, and one nice XR2 computer radio with EPA. These little annoyances are what made me stop the hobby so many years ago I believe. And what fixes annoyances? You throw money at it!

I went for consolidation first by using a JR XS3i, but my brushless models caused severe glitching, so I switched to a Spektrum DX3.0 instead. Got a barely used controller and rx, plus 3 more NIB, plus two brand new traxxas 2055 servos and the stock JR servos which come with it. All for $355 shipped, all the way from Canada. You should've seen th box, 1/3 of it was covered in stamps!

That's awesome!
I've been lucky so far, the Novak system and stock TQ haven't glitched. Nor has my Mamba Max and 5700 with the XR2. Only problem I have had is the newer Traxxas Digital Servos I tried out, glitched in everything sitting on the table except in the E-Maxx with TQ radio. But I didn't run it yet so maybe it while it is running it will start glitching.
Consolidation is something I should have done a long time ago. You should see the pile of transmitters I have! While moving stuff mounted with high strength velcro isn't too bad, it's still a pain sometimes.

I have the new E-Maxx first. Played with it stock, then upgraded to HV-Maxx. It was fun 'till I got tired of replacing parts. Then, I bought an E-Revo. It was kinda slow stock, I fixed that by taking the HV-Maxx from my E-Maxx. Now this super fun! and I never replaced a single part yet.
The E-maxx was sold as a runner for a month now :D.

I have an E-Revo with the 6.5hv maxx pro system and could not be happier! Insane power using only 2s lipos. Great setup!!

Well I am glad I got mine even though I did not run it yet. I am waiting on the warmer weather.

I wish it was easier for me to get rid of my old vehicles. I am a pack rat/collector of everything I get into. To get rid of something, whether it makes me money or not, is like cutting off a limb. I think I would be happier with a bone stock E-Revo but I'll probably still end up with a E-Maxx looking longingly at me from the shelf, with a sad sad face if I gut it.

actually i upgraded my old 3906 maxx to cvds. pretty fun still, though nowhere close to brushless.
i got a 3905 maxx with brushless. the driveshafts will still break after awhile, so i put cvds into the back.
then i bought a e-revo. same thing. needs cvds at the back with 6s brushless power.
all 3 are fun. but i play with the 3905 maxx most. its handling is best---can make nice 180 degree turns without flipping unlike the revo. and its more durable than the 3906. e-revo is more a speed monster truck.

i love my 3906 e-maxx. its far from stock but i love it. both trucks are pretty different, so its hard to compare i think.

Do you jump them a lot? My 3905 and 5605 have been on 4S and 6S respectively for about 6 months now and I've not had any problems with broken drive shafts. In fact the only mods they both have are RPM arms, and after market skids to protect the bottom.
