What is the best solder to use when soldering wires to my motor? and what is the best way to do it?

60/40 rosin core solder. If you have a Radio Shack nearby, they sell good stuff. Thinner wire is better than the thick stuff.
You want to tin the iron (get some solder on the tip), then heat the wire. Tin it with solder (coat it with solder). Then tin the motor's leads with fresh solder. Then join the two together, and add a slight amount of solder if necessary to get them both to melt together. You need to make sure both sides of the solder melt otherwise you will get a "cold" joint, which will not hold.

Using a good soldering station helps too, Hakko and Weller make some nice set ups. I like my Hakko 936, easy to use and plenty of heat for building battery packs.
