Doesn't this esc look exactly like the LRP brushless esc? But it is over a $100 more expensive. anyone know what's better about it?

It's a high voltage system price, not a speed control.

They both look like rebadged Hobbywing esc's, not the Ezruns, but the Xerun ones, the same as the Venom and all them.

Somewhere I read that Tamiya buys the Hobbywing ones.

Interesting isn't it!!!

Our senior designer goes to China several times a year, and sometimes attends trade shows while there. There are dozens---maybe hundreds---of companies knocking off American R/C designs.

At one show, the vendor told him that they made all Novak's BL products! Surprise, surprise! Adnan gave they guy his business card and the copy-cat could no longer speak, or understand, English......

You will see more and more knock-offs as time goes on. Chinese manufacturing is in a major depression. So Asian manufacturers are searching for ever more products to copy. One of our distributors is a major offender----not just our products, but any items they might make a profit on.

Being a distributor gives them a manufacturer's sales info so they know which items are worth copying and which items to ignore. Ethics, anyone? It's only business.

Are the systems they make lower quality or are they about the same.

I think the quality of imported BL products and R/C electronics can be very inconsistent.

For example, Novak has been around for 31 years. Repeat business is very important to us so customer service and comprehensive upgrade exchange programs are offered to assist our users. We make repair/replacement parts available, so customers always have access to the service items they need.

We have no motivation to cheapen products and lower prices to attract unsophisticated, first time purchasers. When you purchase a no-name product you can take your chance with warranty replacement or ongoing customer support. All of our electronics and motors are designed by us and manufactured (serviced) here, in our Irvine factory.

For example: The original design for all ROAR-approved, sensored BL motors was done by Novak Engineers and later adopted by all other motor sellers. Our new Ballistic motors are another exclusive design by our engineering group.

I have to agree, most of the chinese copy units are questionable at best. They get the cost down with cheap unskilled labor and lower grade compnonents. Sure, the 8 year old kid may be able to solder a fair joint 80% of the time, and the components work when new. You don't have to think so hard to realise they need to chop a lot off of the raw materials and labor cost to make it worth while to ship it half way around the world and still sell it for 30% less.

And people wonder why I will only use Novak products.
They are the best in the biz, in my opinion.

I use EZrun ESCs, nothing sub-standard about them at all, and that isn't just my opinion either. You're definitely getting your money's worth.
