What would you like to see more of in RC Car Action?...shootouts, how tos, vehicle reviews, driver interviews, custom builds. Please help us decide what to put in the magazine. We want to create what you want to read.

Race coverage.

The driver interviews are also quite good as are some of the backstory articles like the recent Losi vs Associated Rivalry Article.

Vehicle reviews are always good.

I don't really like the custom builds. They usually cost so much they seem unattainable.

I'd like to see historical articles, with a little trivia, and perhaps you could base a competition on it as well.

some ideas:

i really like the shootouts. maybe for the next one, you guys rate them, then go to a local track and let some local guys have the wheel for a bit, then get their thoughts, insights and comments

with the popularity of scale rigs, maybe something like a photo-adventure-book type of idea (this idea sounds terrible when i try to explain it, but i'm sure you guys have a vague idea of what i;m getting at). eg. the hilux/bruiser goes off roading in the desert/forrest/trail park and photos are taken at cool angles and captions are put in to give a story kind of feel.

lesser known kit builds(eg. juggernaut 2, etc) that are made into projects(anyone can make a clod crawl, but can you do it to a juggy with aftermarket parts?)(i know you can, this is just an example)

more content put online from the magazines, and categorized(eg race, tech questions, kit reviews, electronics reviews, motor and engines, etc)

i think thats all my quasi-crazy ideas for now.

Thanks for your valued input! We appreciate it and I will do my best to feature more back stories, interviews, and articles that entertain you.

Please keep the ideas coming.

build a few of the tamiya 18-wheelers, customize and/or upgrade them(eg bearings, lipos, esc and light units, sweet paintjobs, etc), then have a fun bash, maybe something story related.

I really like the custom builds and how to articles. Even though some of the builds are a little over the top I have used some of the ideas in my projects. I buy RC vehicles like most people buy TP so the shootouts are always cool to see what's what. Great mag BTW.

I'd like to see more scale builds - not just crawlers, but drag cars, buggies (Baja, 1600's, Class 5). Remember "Grumpy's Toy", or the '55 or '57 drag car project you featured back in the late 80's? That was great stuff - and not completely unrealistic in terms of complexity and cost for the average RC freak to replicate. Didn't "Grumpy's Toy" use a Hornet or Grasshopper rear axle?
I think articles like this would be more beneficial to the hobby now than they were back then - manufacturers really seem to take notice and cater to the scale market now, not to mention we have the technology and know-how to make a durable scale rig that also handles well.
Can't tell you how excited I am to see more realistic buggies running at the local race tracks - as we've seen with Short Course racing. Real truggy replicas! That would be wicked.

I think there needs to be more 'tech' stuff. There needs to be a certain amount of learning for the new people that came into the hobby with RTR's. And for the the old hands, maybe some good articles on recycling our existing vehicles into the cool cars/trucks we can build that are completely different, and maybe some new 'ballistic speed' projects.

Great rag, I look forward to getting it in the mail...

I would like to see more interviews with the designers of the cars/trucks. About what they tried and if didn't or did work when designing it and how testing went etc.

Thanks

-it'd be cool to have a monthly section on modded RC vehicles that come from Radio Shack, Nikko, Tyco, NewBright, they're everywhere and have tons of potential. There could be new classes for modified "toy" RC's. It's much cheaper (cost), and many people have them already.

I love product testing. I feel like there is a ton of marketing hype in batteries right now.

A battery shootout at different capacities and volts would be fun.

Snow car project buil type thing like take a traxxas w/p veichle and build for snow. Like take a slash put skis on it and the whole shabang.

To follow with the custom/project build themes:

I too suggest custom theme articles (from mild to wild). In this day and age of the 'enternets' it's too easy to gather info on the common production R/C vehicle. I've not subscribe to a magazine in years thanks to the internet. Having interesting (meaning unique) builds/ideas that I won't find elsewhere would be key.

Tamiya had (still has?) a area on their Japanese website with all sorts of wild builds including a hand-vac integrated into one of their cheap 4wd R/C kits (somewhat pointless yet cool too). It was a cool web page to visit when in need of seeing something different.

RCCA once stated that Tamiya was the Lego of R/C due to the swap-ability of parts between kits, so it should be easy to be creative with your resources. I similar can be done with other manufactures too.

I remember reading in RCCA the crazy suggestion that one modified a 1/14 Tamiya big-rig and run it at their (then upcoming) inaugural fastest R/C car challenge, stuffing its trailer with many batteries wired in series to make big voltage and get to ridicules speeds - that would be a interesting project (experiment).

Give each of your editors some random/leftover parts from a different kits/old projects/non popular RTRs and see what each can create to compete at a specific task. Make a mini series of it and have go on for a few months and make it fun and on a grassroots level (Chris's back lot style).

How about a challenge to get or create a r/c car to drive across (or the furthest over) a pond? Make it mythbuster's style, there could be many considerations in the design approach, get your readers involved in it too and follow though with the results good or bad. That would be a great way to test all the new waterproof electronics now being marketed.

A bit of history, how-to, tech, trivia, and competition can easily be mixed into the above. The one reason I would purchase a magazine would be to add to my personal library of reading material that contains knowledge that is not readily available and makes for an interestingly unique read.

A fortune cookie once said - one thrives from unexpected / Lucky numbers - 3, 10, 20, 23, 28, 46.

I'm done typing now :teacher:

I prefer No CNC because most people don,t have these machines at home,
I want to saw,cut,drill,grind,glue,polish :)

Thanks for all of your ideas. I like the custom project and scale build ideas other than just scale crawlers.

Go to the club-level racing scene and see whats going on there. There are more than enough articles about pro racing. But what about the guys who really fuel this hobby?

I would like to see projects like they did in the '80's and '90's. Things like turning old entry level buggies into hotrods or making out dated cars competitive again. It would also be nice to see some outrageous experiments like putting a gyro on a slash or making a custom chassis to convert an old buggy or ST into a short course.

I've been a reader since the winter 87 issue and its been a long time since there was a truly satisfying issue.

I would like to see some articles on restoring old rides back to the way they were, where to get parts, stuff like that
