Which brand do you guys consider to be of highest quality?

I have used Novak, Tekin and Castle Creations and the Castle Mamba series seems to be the best to me.

neu-motors?
LRP-x12?

Are the top names all of the same build quality?

(Epic, ez-run motors seem to be of a lower grade??)

I've never used LRP or NEU. I know the NEU motors are supposed to be some of the best.

I don't know that any company can exceed the quality of our (Novak's) new Ballistic series motors. They are completely rebuildable, including hand-wound replacement stators---currently offered in 12 different winds. We will be offering 25.5 replacement stators soon.

Racers can keep spare parts for instantaneous repairs. We make sure that all replacement and service items are available, whether through distribution or from our on-line store. (http://www.shopatron.com/products/category/Ballistic+Motor/135.0.1.1.56.56692.0.0.0) That way there is no down-time, or additional cost, for motor repair.

We will be announcing our "Build a Ballistic" program in early October. Customers will be able to customize Ballistic motors to suit their racing /installation requirements.

We will offer the shell with either standard or ceramic bearings installed. The customer can then select:

~ wound stator (any of 12-15 winds)
~ rotor (2-3 current choices)
~ sensor harness (3 choices)

Customer will be able to assemble the motor from the parts supplied by us. The total cost will probably be about $3-$5 additional for the motor with standard bearings and a bit more for a motor with ceramic bearings installed. Compared to current "street" pricing.

For me,

Scale 1/10
#1 ESC > Castle MambaMax

Scale 1/8
#1 Motor > Castle/Neu2200Kv

MambaMonsterESC still under test but looking good :)

Mega is also pretty good, they like 6S power and remain cool even with silly gearing.

In term of motors it is hands down Lehner. For controllers, I would have to say Tekin.

Yes! Hard to get here in the states but I would have to say that the Lehner motors are the best quality motor.

I've experienced bearing issues with one Neu motor I run in a heli, but the other two have performed flawlessly and the power is insane! May have to give the Lehner's a shot IF they can perform similarly.

Tekin's an interesting choice. If you don't mind my asking, why?

I like Tekin's ease of setup but I am not sure if they can handle the power of the Mamba. I may be wrong, but i don't think they can handle 6S power.

Tekin just has the most drivable controller in my opinion. The brakes feel much better than Castle's. The real advantage comes when running Tekins sensored motors (I forgot to mention, I am talking about 1/8th scale systems here). I run the Tekin 2050 motor in my RC8 and it has been good since I got the updated rotor for it. For 1/10th systems, I would vote for the Tekin RS-Pro and for a motor I would not be able to say. I love my little Lehner 4200, but it doesn't fit into any known racing class.

What is your intended use of this system?

I like Tekin's ease of setup but I am not sure if they can handle the power of the Mamba. I may be wrong, but i don't think they can handle 6S power.

The Tekin RX8 runs 5S and 6S just fine. Most of the guys in our club run 5S and they come off the track cooler than me running 4S. The key is to get the proper motor for 5S. Don't run a 2200 on 5S or you are asking for trouble. Run something betwnn 1500 and 1700 on 5S. For 4S, the 1900 and the 2050 run great. Some people even use the 1700 on 4S for smaller tracks or longer run times.

Hi, I would be very interested in delta wound stators. More hp less torque, great for bikes and low grip racing(offroad). Also a lightweight stator with less iron.

Combination of delta wind, light weight stator and small diameter rotor would be great.

to be honest. I like the 30 ezrun motors from hobby city:D they do the job and still can hang with your high end motors..I have this setup in my SC10, and it keeps up with the people that have a 200+ setup in their rigs:driving:

Yes, they make good motors now in 2010... but Lehner had that level of performance and quality back in 2000! I have trouble giving credit to companies like Feigao and Hobbywing who just copy other peoples designs. Feigao can't even do it well!

There's no doubt in my mind that Novak motors are beautifully built and the convenience of spare parts is a big plus. However, Novak seem to be wedded to smaller motor formats and lower voltages. If only they'd make a motor similar in size and power to the Neu 1515.

If you want a bigger motor, the manufacturers I prefer are Neu, Tenshock ( eg their 2240 & 2740 ), Etti and Tekin ( their T8 is the best big sensored motor by far). You can't do better that Neu but you certainly pay for them and usually have to wait a month or so. So long as you look after them, Feigao's are good but You need to make sure they stay cool cos they'll demagnetize very quickly. Same goes for the HobbyCity KD45. A great bargain - Just like the Feigao 580L but half the price. Just a couple of points about the KD45: It's got a 6mm shaft. Not hard to grind down but a bit inconvenient. Also, the end bells are glued in. The 580L has screws holding the endbells on. Worth buying two KD45's at a time!

BTW, the NeuCastle motors now have rebuild kits available for $20-25, including a complete new rotor

Did I miss anything??
