I've traded one of my MTs for a Thundertiger Fun Tiger Extra. This is an older kit thats no longer sold. I can buy replacement parts and have already bought a new pair of wings since one had been damaged and partly crushed. It came with a BNIB Futaba Skysport and 5 servos. Its been thru at least 2 owners and an inventory of parts indicates it is compete.

I don't have any probs with the kit, but its been several years since I've flown, having flown kit plane called Mr Mulligan. It was pretty plane jane and this seems like its a 3D oriented type plane.

Now that the kit is again buildable with the new wings I got from TT would I be better off trying to trade it for something less advanced (intermediate) or just go ahead and build it.

Thanks

Why not keep this one and get a trainer and when it all comes back to you you can fly both.

Good advice from dnkehl. You might want to make a judgement based on your primary preferences and finances. if you can only afford one plane, you need to decide if your primary interest is in the building of the plane or in the flying of it. If you are leaning more to the flying, decide how rusty you are and how experienced you were when you last flew. Aif there is any doubt, get the HobbyZone SuperCub, which is the best beginner plane you can buy. If you feel that your skills were pretty good and will come back quickly, get a 4 channel trainer like the ParkZone T-28 Trojan, Multiplex Minimag, E-flite Apprentice or GWS E-starter.

Hey Duster_360 is any of this helping? If not let us know and maybe we can go in another direction.

Yes, this is helping a lot. I've been flying a sim - RF 3.5 I believe and as long as I stay away from the helis, don't seem to have a lot of probs and have actually seen some improvement. Not sure how much that really means though. I can fly a real heli (nothing fancy, just basics) but cant fly the one in this sim for anything.

The Fun Tiger manual is full of cautions about about needed skill level so I think it's prob too advanced for where I am currently skill wise. What would be ideal to do would be get a trainer than would let me use the engine that came with the Fun Flyer - a TT Pro 46. I am slowly building it, have fuselage completed and getting ready to do the wing work to get them ready for servos, radio gear and then to be joined with the fuselage. It seems like a well thought out kit, loads of wing area and a very light weight plane for its size.

I enjoy kit building and it wouldn't be a prob to build another. Finances I'm happy to say don't really enter into it. If I get laid off again, I just have time off, but no real money worries, I'm closing in on retirement if such a thing exists in this generation anymore and all thats been taken care of based on a lot of years of hard work.

Thanks for the replys - I'll keep an eye out for more advice, in the meantime, I'll take a look at those trainers that were mentioned.

Work right now is preventing any progress, but the project I'm on is nearing completion so I'll be able to get back to construction. I'll take some shots and post back.

I hear you. Wouldn't you like to get ahold of the guy that invented work!

OK, sorry for the delay - I do high end Petrophysical consulting work and my last project was a group of deepwater, offshore India wells for the national O&G company of India, ONGC. They are a "unique" company to work for and it took forever to get it to their liking, but its done, over and finished. The only downside - when I got back, I'm furloughed again, 2nd time this year, til sometime '10. Last time it was 3 months, but I'm going to make the best of it, but I'm also looking for a better place to work - one that can keep me a little busier. Downside to consulting - don't work, don't get paid....

This is what I traded a NIB Tamiya TNX for -

Here's a little closer pic -

Badly damaged left wing - it's crushed on the leading edge and damaged internally as well - all ribs are broken - knew it'd never fly - Thats the radio box on the right - 2 servos and linkage on this side -

This is the other wing - not crushed, but a 2nd left wing - these are handed due to location of radio box in top of wing - one on both sides, this is slightly damaged as well, but just the covering -

Finally the rest of the kit - fuselage, ailerons elevator and tail -

TT still sell whole plane in "bags" - here are pr of new wings ready to start on cut and expose radio box, then fit with radio box door -

It pretty windy here a lot of the time, I was looking at the Multiplex MiniMag, but wonder if it'll have trouble in the wind or if I should plan on flying only when its not windy (early in the morning)?? Or would windy conditions dictate another choice in trainers?? Thanks

Thanks for the pictures. If you are doing OK on the simulator you might be OK with flying this plane. If you can swing a top wing instead of mid wing they are easyer to fly. Also put a little diehedral in the wings to get it to right its self if you have a problem. One more thing you might want to look into is making a foam cutter and making your own wings. If I am talking to basic for you I apologize. Please let me know. As far as the wind thing goes the calmer the better when you are starting out. Can someone else recommend a good trainer that will handle the windy conditions we are dealing with.

some times accidents may happened in the airplanes are due to the careless of the pilot only so be careful ..
