New from Reedy (http://67.199.85.166/reedypower/rdyhome.php):

This innovative new charger is simple to use and offers the ability to charge the most popular NiMH/NiCd battery types and configurations.

The 447-S utilizes state-of-the-art peak prediction circuitry to protect batteries from damage due to overcharging. Standard peak detection circuitry continues charging even after the battery is fully charged, which can damage the battery. Instead, the 447-S continuously monitors the battery's charge curve, calculates when the peak will occur, and stops charging at that point.

Advanced Trickle Charge mode automatically begins when the battery is completely charged. This pulse current charge function keeps the battery charged until it is ready for use and conditions the cells to ensure maximum performance and longevity.

if it was cheaper, had a discharge/cycle function, or digital display, it would be good for a first timer

I guess we now know what TEKIN did with all their cases from 1989...
