View Full Version : novak rooster not providing power to receiver

I have an older novak rooster speed control that I got in a trade. For some reason it will not provide power to the receiver for the bec. The only way to get it to work is to plug a receiver pack into the receivers battery port. I tried a few different receivers just to rule out that its the receiver and not the esc and it does the same thing with all of them (and they all have BEC). The switch on it also has no effect. Other than that it works fine, just requires a receiver battery pack.
Any ideas. Wishfull thinking but is there a way that the bec could have been disabled (program or missing jumper)????
Thanks

whatever the problem, I used my voltmeter and it only seems to be putting out about 2 volts. Figured its probably something I can't fix so I bought a castle bec. Works.

Yup, sounds like that Rooster's voltage regulator is dying(2 volts won't run much of anything on a car), so if you really want it work properly again, it'd need to be sent in for repair most likely....

would that affect anything other then supplying power to the receiver? My $20 castle bec maybe a cheaper solution then sending the esc to novak for repair.

It's hard to say, when something in the electronics is messed up, you never really know how bad it really is until it's been taken apart & all the electronic components looked over(& I mean all circuits tested by people trained to do so), it might only be the voltage regulator, but there could be other issues that would eventually cause problems(& I know this from my own experience building, testing & repairing electronics, sometimes components break down because of extra strain cause by previously failed components). From my perspective, sending the Rooster in may not be the cheapest solution, but I think it's the BEST solution(if you want to keep it) in the long term....
