Race Report by Ty Campbell.

October 23-25 marked the weekend of the 2009 Dave Mapston Memorial race in Spokane, WA. The race was held at the Spokane Expo and Fairgrounds in the Valley and has proved to have a good turnout this year and years passed. I began by making the 5 hour journey from Tekin to Spokane Valley Thursday night. Practice started Friday at 10 am and the track proved to be a little challenging due to the rain. Although built temporarily in a covered facility, the rain found its way through the roof and made several spots on the track unpredictable.

When Qualifying rounds started on Saturday, the track had dried out enough that 1/10 scale wasn't a mud bog. Mod truck had some 19-20 entries and proved to be a tight group in the top 5. TQ swapped places plenty of times, finally landing on Justin Wilde of Richland, WA with me in 2nd. The A1 main was exciting, I took the win by just under 1 second, with Ross Carter and Justin Wilde close behind. A2 was a bust, literally when I blew a turnbuckle and CVD all in the same pile up on the back double section. A3 I came back for the win, up on the field by 9seconds.

Mod Buggy was brutal, only 8 entries and a 5th place spot with my name on it. My buggy was dialed, there were just 4 guys faster than me, period. Little to no mistakes was a plus from me, but the faster lap times of the top 2 really put the rest of the field out of the running. One of those top two was our very own Jason Hunt. Great job Jason!

1/8 Electric had 10 entries and was probably my favorite class of the weekend. Jeremy Potter of Spokane dominated the class all weekend long, taking home TQ and the win with his Tekin powered Ve8. I took home 3rd place behind Wilde and Potter. 6 buggies were running RX8 systems.

I also debuted my new Losi 8T 2.0 brushless truggy for the first time and seemed to turn quite a few heads with the performance of this monster. Strapped with an RX8 2250kV system, I was laying down some power all weekend. 50+ entries and I was the only one running electric with the nitro boys. Some new car break in troubles haunted me in quals, I ended up in the C main. C main rolled around and I bumped into the B main! 20 minutes was outside of my battery's reach, so I was forced to do a 30 second battery swap with the help of Jeremy Potter and Rick McCrery. Thanks fellas! I was sitting in 5th fighting for 4th place when I came in to pit and ended up finishing 9th in the B from swapping a battery..

All in all, it was a great weekend filled with good racing, RCCCS built and AWESOME track and everyone was great to be around. I will surely be attending the Mapston Memorial in the future.

Ty used the Tekin RS and Redline Sensored 10.5 BL Motor to win the Mod Truck class!
