I need some opinions on EZrun brushless systems. Does anyone here have any of their stuff?

I had 2 of them in my older model emaxx. Worked well up until recently when 1 of them decided to go up in smoke. Im 100% sure it was because of moisture and not a quality/manufacturing problem. Ive heard many good things about them.

I have an Ezrun 25 amp V2 sensorless system in my 1/16th Tamtech, and an Xerun 120 amp V2 sensored in my 10th Evader ST. So far they have performed flawlessly. I'm hooked on them!:D

I've had 3 of them, a 35A, a 60A, and an 80A in my emaxx. They all worked fine for a while, until the emaxx one decided to kick the bucket. It could be part my mistake and part design. What I did with it I have done to my Mamba's and they didn't mind it, but the EZrun did not like it. And NO it wasn't doing anything stupid. It was merely calibrating it to my radio. The other two still go fine.
They are smooth enough, but for low speed driving, the Mamba max I have is better. Mind you, my friend uses his ezrun's and loves them saying they are really smooth. I suppose until you've driven something "better", it IS smooth. Smoothness is all relative IMO.
For the price of the 35 and 60 amp versions, you can't go wrong.
Now that they have considerably raised the price for the 1/8 ESC, I think you can do better for the same money or so.
BTW, they ALL run cool. The 60A is best one I think. I have had the 35A thermal on me once, but other than that, it runs cool. I was running huge wheels through grass when it thermalled. I have never had any other brushless ESC thermal on me. The 60A is the best bang for the buck and being able to power almost all sensorless motors on the market is worth it. The 35A can only power low KV motors. Futureproof your setup and get the 60 so you can run any motor you like (within reason).

I replaced a perfectly fine Castle Creations 25amp sidewinder esc with my 25 amp Ezrun. It's not only smoother than the CC, but it will run my CC 4100 kv motor with no cogging at all. The CC esc cogged even when the car was still rolling. I,ve owned 2 CC 25 escs & both of them had problems running the 4100kv motor. jmo:D

That brings up a good point I forgot about. I bought an ebay 4300kv Team Powers motor. I had bought it to use with my Ezrun 35A, but the experimental side of me decided to see what it went like on the Mamba max. It cogged like crazy on the Mamba max. Once it got going it was fine. However, on the Ezrun it went way smoother, no cogging at all. The peculiar thing with the motor is the magnets are very strong, it feels much like a brushed motor when turning it by hand, with 4 or 6(??) really distinct "notches" per rotation, whereas CC motors (and all other 1/10 brushless motors I've come into contact with) have no real magnetic feel. So I guess the CC controllers don't like strong magnets.
That was with the older firmware on the mamba, as the new firmware has addressed cogging issues even more and now it's fine. Possibly not quite as cog free as the EZrun on this particular motor but you'd be hard pressed to tell a difference now. With the majority of all other motors though, I still find the Mamba Max smoother :)

I too have compared several EZrun ESCs to Castle ESCs. The EZruns were MUCH smoother with all of the motors I tested, up until the more recent firmware updates to the Castles. Now it is very close. But the EZRun has always been amazingly smooth.
I agree also that Castle products are a little better in quality, but for performance the EZRun works great.
The strong magnetic "feel" you speak of is because it is likely a 4 or 6 pole motor where all Castle motors are 2 pole. This will make a big difference in the startup on brushless motors'

Just ordered what I believe is just a relabled 1/8th scale 120amp ezrun system, sold by integy.

hope to have it in a few days to try out in my ofna mbx im converting to brushless
Its hard to believe something so cheap can be so good. I guess the other brands are just ripping us off.
I have 3 EZrun ecs & 4 motors: no issues. The are pretty popular locally.
They are also the spec motor/esc for Australian mini racing (they tested them pretty thoroughly)
The EZrun has the best(easiest) programing method (program card), and had better motor connectors than my LRP.
Speed Passion,Yeah Racing & others sell rebranded Xerun/ezrun
The ezrun is up to 1/4 the cost of a big name system so even if it fails & you have to buy another, it still works out cheaper
Ive only had issues with LRP X11 motor & a poorly designed LRP esc (2 new LRP escs also failed in the shop when the guy was testing them)
There is allways the chance that any brand will fail.
