I have a new Nitro Demon by DuraTrax. I have been looking at what hop-ups are available. I see they have Torsen diff's available.
I read on the about.com page by Hank H. how they work, basically.
Are they that much of an improvement for a backyard basher? Or strictly for competition/racing?
I saw a set for sale on eBay made by Fioroni, for a Kyosho MP6. The looked a lor different than the Duratrax, as far as quality. My question, is will any Torsen diff made for any nitro model be adaptable? Or must one purchase the diff that is labeled for a specific model only?
Finally, why do they leak oil? Why can't they be made to seal properly?
Thank you http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hey ya old phart http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif (thats a good name) I have the center Torsen and it is a big improvement. Mine came with grease, no leaking. Duratrax switched to grease for ths reason. I mostly bash with my Quake. I bought the torsen anyways. If you just bash with it you may want to try locking the center diff with a window caulk silicone of some sort. You want cauck that stays flexible so you can take it out if you ever want to. I've read posts of guys that have done this and they were very pleased. Its way cheaper too. The Torsen though doesnt actually lock the diff but sends power to the wheels with the most grip.
Not sure on the compatibility of other brands.

Thanks Q&S! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/wink.gif
I think I would rather install a real diff than a tube of silicone. Glueing a working part together to make it non-functioning doesn't sit well with me.
I like the idea that using grease prevents the leaks. Seems simple enough, wonder why they didn't just do that from the beginning?
Since grease is more viscous, I suppose it takes more power to make it work, but that almost seems a non-issue with the power these little rasclas are making http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Well I think the oil would be better IF it didnt leak. One thing though there are still torsens out there with oil in the package. So if you get one w/oil just get some gear grease like Mobil 1 grease. Dont pack it full just about 3/4 full of grease.
Let me also add I dont know how much difference you will notice with the Demon. The torsen on the Quake also helps the big tires from expanding this is why it works good on the quake. The Demon with the smaller tires might not benifit as much.
