How fast will a stock MP go?

And if you have a T-Maxx and a MP, which one do you like better? And which one would you get if you are just starting into nitro?

P.S. If you could, please, I need to see a MP and T-Maxx beside each other so I can see how much bigger the MP is. PLEASE! PICTURES!

my MP was clocked at 53mph radar, with the stock gear ratio and an ofna picco competition motor. however i have been told that radar detectors on small objects can be innacurate. often my 10mph or more. so to be fair ill say 43mph.

u might be better off getting a tmaxx if its your first nitro. cuz the maxx comes rtr with linkage set up for u. and a pull start and all that. so all u would need is gallon of fuel. you have to consider alot more when getting an MP, such as radio gear, servos, engine, starterbox or pullstart, glow ignitor. plus the instruction included wit the thing are pretty lame. it didnt cause me any trouble, it was only my second nitro vehicle. so its not too bad with out instructions. evaluate your ability to put something together with an exploded diagram and intuition. if u think u can do it. then great get an MP> if you need everything explained to you with words and pictures, then u should get a maxx.

iv run both. i am not too impressed with the Maxx's speed, or the tranny, it tends to get stuck, throttle response isnt instant, its kinda bland. i feel a whole lot more when i run the pirate.. the Pirate is like driving a sports car, the maxx is like driving a lincoln town car...

here are some pics for size comparison

You gotta like that Dirty Pirate guy.. he's always been such a straght shooter. Props man, props :) Though I do dissagree with him.

While I like my Maxx alot, I think that the MP my friend owns, has shown to be more durable, and the stock .21 motor is definitly easier for a beginner to tune. I can't count the nuber of times I've seen posts on this board about jerking T-Maxxes, or T-Maxxes that won't run right.

Before I will recommend T-Maxxes to a Nitro newbie, Traxxas will have to partner with or offer a more reliable brand motor in the stock Maxx. Not to mention the need for a more powerfull powerplant.

Another reason for choosing the MP over the T-Maxx for a nitro beginner, is handling. The driving characteristics of the bone stock MP are far more forgiving than the T-Maxx. I don't want to get into a "this suspension" vs "that suspension" battle, but lets just say that box stock, the engine and chassis of the T-Maxx sit quite a bit higher than the MP. This makes the T-Maxx top heavy.

Don't get me wrong, If you're up for it and you've got some cash, the T-Maxx can be made into a formidable oponent for any monster truck. But out of the box, I thihnhk that the MP would be better for a person new to the speed and handling of a Monster Truck

:)

BTW, great pics DP. What state are you in. I just sold my T-Maxx to buy and E-Maxx, and recently got myself an EB-4 with a Picco G1 ProBV. It'd be cool to hit the track with ya

LOL you two are real close (real maxxter in FL, Dirty pirate in OR)
I know Meet in the middle like IL where I live. We got a nice BMX track with some BIG jumps. Im sure my torq21 power can keep up with your guys Picco Power :)
My lhs got in some EB-4's they are nice buggies

AN RTR isnt always good for a beginner. I would say get the MP over the Maxx too. The MP is mostly assembled anyways. The shocks and a few little other things need doing. But the experience you get from just putting those together is beneficial. And like the others said you get an engine that is more suited to the size of vehicle its in.

ps Im sure the MP with the picco comp goes faster than 43 my Quake with lowest gearing 23:1 & stock engine goes 36 and regular gearing a few mph more so 43 IS being conservitive. :) :)

Would it be better to get this one that cost more and has the Engine and radio (does this one have the Engine and Radio?)...

The second one does include the engine, however it does not have the radio or servoes. I'm on my way downtown to pick up my MP and hope its good. I've heard a lot of good stuff about it, so I hope I'm not dissapointed.

I recommend you get a FM radio for a truck that powerfull. It's a much clearer signal. They range anywhere from $90 - $300. I have the Hitec Lynx FM in one of my trucks and that's a good radio if you're on a budget. You can get it w/ only one servo for around $85 or so. For a steering servo get one w/ at least about 120 oz. of torque. I use the hitec 650 mg in mine for steering. It's got 132 oz. of torque (w/ a 6v receiver pack). It won't quite turn the wheels all the way at a complete standstill, but it gets the job done. If you want to race then get the airtronics servo that has 200 oz. I'd also get a decent 6v receiver pack if I were you. You'll get much better throttle and brake response and steering. Hope this helps some.

BTW: My other FM radio is the JRX-3. It's a little pricier, but it's still a great deal for all the features it has. 3 model memory, 3 channels, and digital display to name a few.
