Howdy, I just got my wife a T-Maxx and after breaking it in ( bout 8-10 tanks), it still shutters when you first apply the throttle. Is this normal? I have had nitro cars before and it seems like the tranny is not engaging properly. I haven't even "opened it up" yet cause I don't want to wreck the gears. It runs fine after a couple of feet, shifts and all that I was just wondering if the shuttering was normal. Thanks :D null

It is normal and will go away a little after the engine is warm. Also this can be reduced if the idle is set correctly and/or a little high. But nothing helps this problem go away more, at least not in my experience, better then a very well tuned carb/engine. My T-Maxx doesn't do that anymore, but it has had a gallon and a half of fuel through it.
And in case you were wondering why it does that and why needle and idle settings affect it here you go. The tranny has a centrifugal clutch inside that depends on engine RPM to decide when to engage the transmission and eventually what gear to engage. So if your engine is tuned to idle at low RPMs then it will take longer to engage because it has to "spin up." But on the flip side to that is if the engine is set to idle too high the clutch will herky jerky without you even adding any throttle. One way to limit the jerks while accelarating from a stop is to adjust your idle screw a tiny bit at a time and test drive your truck to see if you are making any progress. The other way to limit the jerking is to fine tune both needles and if needed the idle screw.
Hope this helps,
Jerry
