I bet you both are racing at the same track and don't even know it. The one off of 45 south.
Mexican Speed,
I still haven't made it to Houston to check out the track in person. How is the racing there? You winning every heat and the A-Main yet?

Yeah, I am, But then I woke up :( I was wondering where this post went? I guess it makes sense to be here. Well, I haven't had a chance to really race or anything, I am coming home from work a little late now and then, and my weekends are a little busy. My house has been falling apart in the past weeks, so my wife tells me  But I'll be running at M&M Hobbies next Sat.(Wife is out of town :D) So whoever here knows where it's at, let me know, we can bash around or make a small race. Wow, jerry, you got bumped up to moderater, cool. How's everything on your end, as far as your T-Maxx, if you still have it?

mexican_speed

C'mon, I know there are more Houstonians than this.

He who doesn't post automatically forfits, and makes me the winner!!!!!!! :D

MexicanSpeed,
T-Maxx is sitting in limbo waiting for me to quit working so many hours. I need to replace the exhaust gasket and purchase more fuel. Plus since my son is on summer vacation he has been getting most of my attention. He likes driving my R/C vehicles except the T-Maxx. I think it is too loud for him. And there is no way I am going to allow a 5 year old boy run one of my R/C cars while I beat on T-Maxx. He tends to lean towards bumper car action if we drive at the same time. :) Like father like son I guess. ;) Plus my Hornet is KIA right now since a person from this BB stiffed me on a complete rolling chassis that he was supposed to sell me. This was going to be my sons car.
Anyways, sounds like we both have been putting family and work ahead of R/C. Someday I will get to visit that track off of I-45 in person.

Sorry I haven't been posting for a while. I've been to the track on I-45 south but I haven't race there. I have a B3 that I've never raced even though I've had it for 4 years. It's sitting in my closet collecting dust right now because I don't have a servo for it and I haven't been to the track lately.
What part of Houson are you from Mexican_Speed? I'm from west Houston. (I-10 & Highway 6)
I hope you can come down to Houston sometime Jerry because they have some great tracks like M&M, Performance Raceway, and the one on I-45 south. :D

Hey I know the area that you folks live. It has been an extremely long time since I have been to that side of Houston though. There used to be a hobby shop off of I-45 near Almeda Mall and one off of Fuqua rd in the same shopping center as Randals. There was also one off of Old Galvaston rd directly accross from the Base, now Ellington Field, but I know this one has since closed. Pearland had a track also. I know where the I-45 track is but where are the other ones you mentioned?

No joke, I live in Southwest, Beechnut near Highway 6. Cool man :D Hey ever been to the one down on Chimney Rock, M&M Hobbies? I go there every now and then. I have an NXT that I run there. LMK, maybe we can go bash around or race there.

darn, this means I don't win unconditionaly, ;)

One is down in Bellaire, TX. You know, the city with in a city.

There is another indoor track, no nitro  on I-10 at Witte Rd., near Gessner. Performance Raceway.

Yeah, I agree Jerry, there used to be a boat load of Hobby shops, there used to be 5 very local shops in my direct area, but they just all gave in. :( Oh well, maybe one day we will all race there, and we won't even notice it ourselves :D

I was in Bellaire visiting my father about two years ago, he used to live off of Maple, and noticed a hobby shop just down the road from the high school.
HPI Racer2,
What street is that hobby shop on? Is it near or on El Camino Real? Or Nasa Rd 1? Man I need to move back to Houston. I sure miss life in a "real" big city.

Sorry Mexican_speed I lost my internet there for a while. I know about M&M and I just moved so Performance Raceway abouit a 7 minute drive. Sorry I can't race you because I still don't have a servo and I just haven't had the time lately to get one.

Thanks :)

mexican_speed
07-24-2001, 09:42 AM
What kinda servo you lookin for? Yeah, I know how loosing your connection gets to you. The computer here at work, is FAST,(T1 connection) my home comp. is a different story. I don't make it out to Performance Raceway much, I got rid of all my elecs. and seem to be doing OK with nitro.

Killer87
07-25-2001, 05:22 PM
I'm trying to save up for a 1/8 gas buggy and I decided until I have the money for both the servo and car I won't buy either. I know it might sound stupid but that's what I decided.

mexican_speed
07-27-2001, 09:33 AM
Not yet, I am getting a little worried about the deal, It's been about a week, and Gary hasn't responded to my e-mails or anything. I am really hoping that I didn't get burned on this deal. I sent him a very nice Losi NXT. Just have to wade it out for another week or so. Maybe jumping the gun, but I'll let everybody know.

Why did you want it??? :D ;)

08-09-2001, 03:35 PM
Yeah, I heard about your Maxx. Killer is being a wuss, scared I am going to kick his rearend at the track. He just hasn't gotten a vehicle yet, we keep in touch though, so he will let us know when he will face the music of sour disapointent.

Well, if you keep tabs on me, you know that I traded my NXT for a TTR Mirage Pro 1/8th scale Buggy. Very awsome Buggy, I see a lot of potential to be a trophy taker. Kinda like my NXT. Other than that, the stable is pretty much the same stuff.

Well Zoomie, you ought to go AWOL from Abilene, and stroll onto the tracks down here for a real race. I'll tell you what, if I catch you, I won't give you a ticket, just a warning. :D

I finally found a new gasket for my MIP stinger and replaced the original one. So how are things in the big city of Houston? Have you and Killer87 gotten together and raced? How is the new addition to your R/C stable?

FM 1960 is on the North side so why is FM 1959, aka Dixie Farm Rd, on the southside of Houston?
Mexicanspeedtrap, Gee thanks, knock on wood I haven't had a speeding ticket in years. We have a Ford Windstar, which was billed by Motor Trend as the most stable mini van at speeds in excess of 100mph, which off the record it will do without even breaking a sweat. ;)
The next time I'm in Houston I'll look you up and see if you can keep up with my cars. :p Do you still have the Bandit? That problem I told you about solved itself and I might be able to talk the wife into letting me buy it.

Well, Jerry, 1960, turns into Highway 6, which Hwy6 goes all the way to Galveston. Hwy 6 is the actual backroad of Frienswood.

Well, you gotta be kidding me, your cars can't keep up with mine :p The Windstar is the fastest you got?? Here's what's in my Garage: ahem, 69 SS Camaro-350 Blown NOS TPI engine, 57 Chevy Bel Aire, 454 Highrise Edelbrock Manifolds, 2 950 cfm Holley carbs with NOS, 2001 Chevy Silverado 3500HD Dually Duramax Deisel, My wifes car  Buick Grand National by McLaren** MINT **, and don't know why, Chevy Astro Van custom.
Beat that Zoomie!!!! ;)

Well, I don't know of many tracks up north that much, haven't really had time to really browse around the 1960 Area. But any open area should be fine, or if you feel like driving, go south on Highway 59. exit Chimney Rock make a left under freeway, and go straight till you M&M Hobby shop, and there is a track there?? LMK if you need more info.

Well I think my Windstar can woop your Dulley and the Astro. But as for the rest.... I guess I would have to use my '79 BMW R100RT, that is a 983cc 3/4 dress Motorcycle that is. I don't think that my '78 Ford F250 Camper Editon is going to do anything but out pull your cars, except maybe the Dulley. But that is a hard one to call. The 400 under it's hood is real strong and the T-18 tranny gives me more torque then I know what to do with. Not to mention the Dana 60 rearend that Ford put under it. I've got to come to Houston and check out your garage man. I used to have a 72 Pontiac LeMans w/350cid and 350 tranny. Also a 73 Gran Prix with a 400 Big block and 400 tranny. Sure do miss those cars. Maybe I can borrow my Dad's 2001 Mustang GT and come over and "play" ;)

Jerry, Jerry, Jerry, when will you learn, you can't beat a Marine :D

CHERRY, Candy Purple, White top, All the goodies, All 24K gold Daytons 16'rims, 4 12's, 6 6x9's, 4 tweeters, 2 Clarion 2,000 watt amps. Plush velour in white and purple. 351 Windsor motor, with flame tip pipes, air ride suspension. This car rides looks Like a DREAM, this car may not be for speed, but you have to admit it is a BABE magnet and a definet eye Popper!!!!

My bike is a '79 and needs the carbs rebuilt. Right now it has trouble getting out of it's own way. But it is at least a 1000cc bike with fairing and saddle bags. I think the fastest I have been able to get it to go is about 90mph. I can't complain too much it was free and paid for. Check your Private Messages too.

Ken, have a 94 RX7 myself... your pop's car must be extremely modified to run 9 second 1/4's. don't get me wrong, my car is very fast, but i have an idea of what it takes to get in the 9's. I am probably in the 11's somewhere right now and to go faster my car would have a very hard time doing anything but running the 1/4.

New to the bb scene. I'm from stinkerdena (Pasadena). I've raced at Issacc's on 45 south, sold my Serpent and trying to sell a very capable NRS4. There is a new hs in Pasadena called Jay's Action RC on Spencer. Has a nice offroad track, in between 1/10 and 1/8 scale. I have a 1/8 EB4 I run there, it's pretty fun. carlton eppes
11-06-2001, 09:36 PM
Those are tricky because of the kink in the middle of the second one. Slow down thru there it's easy to try to go to fast. If you hit the first one to fast then you can't get a good run at the second and have to single thru it or case the second one. The 3rd double is usually do able unless you get aggravated at the 2nd one. My trouble comes on the Proline jump my buggy keeps nose diving it. This weekend I had problems at our track with nose diving and let a friend drive it and he had no problem. I figured out what I was doing, to much speed when I hit the jumps, then I couldn't correct it with throttle.

Yea bit their track like ours is designed to be a drivers track not a speed track. Ours has less straight. Also the lap times run around 42 seconds.

Howdy y'all! My name is Sean E. I'm the big brother of Killer87. (who stole my idea of a screename:mad:) So you may call me Dasminiautoistwunderbar:D. It's German for, "The minature car is wonderful." I have been secretly reading all of y'all's messages since the dawn of this thread. I have just decided to put my thoughts through my own typing. All of the witty comments you "heard" from Killer87 originally came from my head.
To get to my point, I know one of you knows somebody who has a Pro 3, XXX-S, X-Ray, or a Yoke for sale. Let me know at The guy who wants the cool touring cars. (Scomp87@aol.com) That touring car shootout inRCCA's December Mag sold me.
As soon as I get car I'll hook up w/ one of y'all and we'll see who whoops who. (I'm not placing my bets on me)
I also whould like to ask an off-the-wall question,
To anyone who races/raced at the I-45 track:
Did you previosly own an HPI 200mm Toyaota Supra body, painted yellow and green/blue? If so, Thanx.

GTracer22,
Thanks for the information. It will come in handy while I am in Houston.

Well I got in touch with Stephen and he just so happens to be leaving town the same time I am getting to town. What crock of pooh. I was really looking forward to meeting at least one of you guys. If Mexican Speed is reading this get in touch pal. If any of you folks want to meet up maybe we can arrange something for Friday. Thursday is obvously out of the question but Friday or Saturday morning might be possible. Just email me tonight by 11pm with contact information if you want to hook up while I am in Houston. Please don't feel hurt if I can't meet up with you as I am going to Houston to spend time with my Dad and R/C is second on my priority list. But if you send me a phone number and times that we might be able to meet I'll get in touch Friday if I can break away from my Dad for a couple hours.
Later,

Well I had a great time in Houston. :)

I went to Hobby Center and another R/C shop near the Almeda Mall. The Hobby Center was great but nobody was racing and the people practicing were only doing one lap then back to the bench. :( My son was very disappointed but he still had fun looking at the stuff on the shelves begging for just about everything within eyesight. ;)
Oh well, maybe next time I will have more time to visit the shops on the other side of town.
Later,

JerryL
11-27-2001, 12:14 AM
Well I was going to post that the prices there seemed a little high but thought better of it. I didn't think I had a right to complain since I didn't go there to purchase anything anyways. I mostly wanted to watch any racing or practicing going on.
I wanted to go to the Pasadena track but ran out of time. My dad was kind of enough to give up some of our family time so I tried to limit the amount of time I was away from him. It is a respect thing as he and don't see much of each other lately.

The R/C vehicles I own now are as follows:
RC10LS (Pan Car)
T-Maxx (MT)
E-Maxx (MT)
MT-10S (Stadium Truck)
Hornet (Buggy)
And a several "Toy" grade vehicles

I get to Dallas once in a while but not as much as I get to San Antonio.

Turbo plugs is a misleading name. All they are, are plugs for turbo engines. Turbo engines are no different except that they require a turbo plug. And turbo engines usually produce a little extra hp. than a non turbo model.
Also turbo engines cost a little more and so do the plugs.

Gmanlusk2004
08-06-2002, 01:07 AM
what's the difference in a turbo engine and a non turbo engine? Is it like the OS engine w/ the boost chamber?
Thanks,
Garrett

hpi racer2
08-06-2002, 01:19 AM
A turbo engine has a different head where the plug emerges, or something like that. Im not really sure to tell you the truth.
And the os engines with the boost bottle does absolutly nothing, manufactures claim that it icreases hp. but know one can tell a difference. All it does is redirects the vacume from the crankcase and puts it back in the cycle of the engine.
Heres the differnce bettween turbo/non turbo plug

Bringing this thread back TTT.

I just got back in to RC. I used to race an RC10T and a Losi JrT back in the early 90's. Moved over here to Houston from Beaumont about a year ago. I picked up a RCCA mag and got the bug again. I decided to try Nitro since that seems like the way alot of the companies are going.

Bought an RC10GT + RTR. I am loving it. I have ran about 10 tanks through it. I live in the North West side of town of 290 on Jones Rd. I also have an Nitro RS4 a friend gave me to repair. I have already repaired it and I am "testing" it now :D.

Looking for some good places to run both and some tracks to race at. I have been to Larry's and a small shop on West road and the Beltway. I haven't made it to M&M yet. Reflex would actually be closer for me. Does anyone know if Reflex charges for practicing??? I have been to Just Hobbies in the Woodlands but it is kinda Po Dunk. Just looking for some info. MT

Very close to the 290 & Jones location. I run mine (Ofna Hyper 10 touring car) in any good parking lot. The Hyper 10 looks very much like a Nitro rs4. Reflex has an onroad indoor electric only track that looks great. They have a very nice indoor pit area for the drivers. Outdoors, they have a small dirt track. Rumor has it, reflex rc is going to remove the dirt track and add some of the parking spaces to make a good sized on road track. Rumors are just that, we will see. M & M is decent with enthusists working the counter. Their onroad track is okay, a little narrow and always a little dusty. This weekend, they had a nice offroad event with 120 racers. Pretty cool. Larry's doesn't carry much. The big track down on I-45 south is gone. The hobby shop is still there. I don't know why they took it down; developement I guess. What a shame too, they use to run the big Serpent cars there. It's removal is why there have been so many Sepents for sale on ebay from the Houston area. Anyway, I would love to parking lot bash with anyone in Houston. Just drop me an email & we'll find a good parking lot.

I would like to meet up with you and bash a little. I live in Trails at Corinthian Creek Apartments on Jones probably 1/4 mile from 290. Maybe we can hook up sometimes and run our cars. I don't know anyone around me that has an R/C. Fun driving by yourself, but it is alot more fun driving around with other people. Send me an E-mail and we can get together. I'm on MSN Instant Messenger all day long also. Address is pookrat@hotmail.com

I'm in Spring with Larry's about 1/2 a mile down the street. Does anyone meet around here to bash? (from the woodlands to west rd. or so) I heard Gulf Coast was a decent track but haven't had a chance to go yet.

Is electric off-road dead in Houston?

I'll be moving down there next summer and was thinking about getting back into racing. I was asking on the Houston R/C forums and it seems like not too many folks race electric off-road. 1/8th buggies and truggies seem really popular though.
