There is a guy in the Wausau area that is thinking of setting up a track outside his slot car shop but he wants to check the interest.
Let him know you'd come.
It's in Schofield. At the Slot Car Connection. Tell Marco you want a track.
Show interest and then maybe he'll build it.

Any people from WI in here besides me?

I'm from Central Wisconsin. What type of track does he plan on making?

What area of CW.
you know where Schofield is don't you?
I'm pretty sure Marco is looking at an off-road track, since he has almost no parking lot, and off-road is the most popular for beginners.
Stop by his slot car track (It's by the Schofield post office behind Big Lots) and let him know you think an R/C track would be a good idea.
Later,
Chris

He only has a few slot car tracks hooked up there for now.
I think he's having a race on Sat if you stop in.
His hours during the summer are limited, because slots are mainly a winter deal.
If he builds an R/C track I'm sure he'll open for more.
Check out the size of his Big Blue track, and see how cool the Drag strip is. It's amzing what they can do with these slots.
My slot dragster hits 65mph in 40 feet! It'll wax any R/C out there.

I'm in the Stevens Point Area and am currently looking at planning to go racing on Sunday's in the race track in Oshkosh. Maybe will take a trip to the area tomorrow and take a look at what he has.

Did you see Marcos setup this weekend?
Piester

I didn't get a chance to run up there this weekend and I'm going to be busy the next 3 weekends. But tell him that you have received some interest from the Stevens Point Area.
hpiguy
08-03-2000, 04:30 PM
I'll let him know.
Hey can you tell me of any R/C shops in the Point, Plover, Whiting area?
Any hobby shops at all.
All we have in Wausau is Pope's and they are kinda lame.
Names will be fine. I can find them in the phone book then.

We only have one Hobby Shop in Point. It is Galaxy Hobby. They are located on the corner of Highway 10 East and Highway 66. They have racing every week during the summer in there parking lots which starts at noon. It is a 40 X 20 oval I think.

Unfortunetly I don't knwo what your talking about. But I know that they were racing last Sunday at Galaxy Hobby. I believe it was also the last time they were racing. I have never raced there because I like off-road type of racing or oval's set up with jumps and stuff so that I can actually use my shocks. Hopefully next year they will do it if the demand is there. I'm not sure if they are any plans for inside racing or they will be taking a hiatus for the winter.

On that oval outside are they running strictly pan cars or do they run touring cars too?
What classes, or I should say what kind of cars do they allow?
If it's only those (segment dying quickly) pan cars, I'm not buying a whole new setup for just a few races.
Do you know their hours on weekends? Sat. and Sun.
hpiguy-I can only go to a track at the very southern border of Wisconsin and IL, its an hour drive to the border and I dont have a clue where to go either.

You must always push the limits. Because if you never fail, you will never succeed.
Cuss out the turn marshals because they cussed at you!!!
Crashing is an art of driving that goes bad in result in human or mechanical error.

There's a track at ABC hobbies in Waukesha, just by Milwaukee, but I'm not familiar with the "flat" part of the state. Sorry.
But good to hear from another WI R/Cer.

Ahh, you must be talking about Galaxy Hobby. I have never raced there but they are just an oval. I was there watching once or twice this summer. As for class, if I recall they had 10th scale electric any type of car, buggy and truck and touring and panning together, they have modified the same, and the same categories for Gas 1/8 and 1/10 scale.
When I was there it was pretty boring for me as a spectator. At one time they had about 15-20 minutes inbetween 2 races because one guy wasn't ready. I'm all for giving a person an extra minute or so to get his car ready but not that long. They say they want to attract people but that isn't the way to do it with making the spectator's wait, but that is another topic which I care not to discuss.
Also they are done for the season and will be starting back up in mid-May.
Another thing, I heard that there is a dirt race track in Abbotsford somewhere by the National Guard Amory. Have you heard anything, I heard they also have an indoor track.

Check out RCCA track listing they have quite a few listed there in the southern part of the state, I believe there may be one in Racine or Kenosha I dont' qutie remeber. Also there is a farely big Oval track in West Bend, just north of Milwaukee where they just ran the ROAR National's about a month ago.

We run in Sheboygan, The local Hobby Town USA runs it. Dirt in summer, big and fast, first year track, but it keeps getting better. Hobby Town carpet track in winter, road course sedan, and trucks, buggys too if they show up.
Trackside.com in Milwaukee is a blast to run, great guy running it.

So Galaxy runs a track for like a month or two every year? How sad is that. Might as well not be open. And then mix all types into big lumps like that. I should buy a pan car, and I'd win every race against buggys and trucks.
BTW the track in Abbotsford is by the Pizza Hut and by the Armory. I forget where, but the only reason I don't go is the pathetic schedule. When do they run? Weekends, when all could attend. NOPE they run on like Tuesday afternoons!
Sure I'm gonna drive 60 to 65 miles to try to race duringa work day.
And then they gripe that nobody shows up. Get real. It also was run by a bunch of slickster locals who would only let you run certain types of cars, and it was all oval. Bunch of unfriendly hicks out there who act like they know it all, and refuse to assist anyone unless they can make a dime or two off it. "Hey is your car broke? Too bad. I'll sell you my used Legends if you want. Oh you want my help? Well I'm kinda busy, see ya"
Maybe it has changed, or should I say hopefully it has changed.

They run there outdoor track this year from either in May or June, I don't know for sure and they ran it until last week. I'm afraid that you probably won't find any other place in Wisconsin that will probably do it different if they run on Sunday's since football season is starting up. And as for lumping together, this is their first year of racing and don't quite have enough racers yet to fill out an indiviudal race for each class. And the pan car and the buggy's were pretty much intermixed so I dought that you would smoke them since the track is pretty small. The only thing I could see happening is your car flying off the track onto Highway 10 and getting run over by a semi going through.

I stopped in at Galaxy in Point on Saturday and I ' ll have to say I was pleasently surprised .
The kid working the counter said that they will be having a meeting on Sunday Sept . 9th at 2pm for all the racers to see what they want to run next season , and what days , times , classes , etc
I ' ll be there to check it out .
I figure , like you said above , if we want to race , we ' ll have to take what we can .
Maybe see you there .

Also HPIGuy, in another post you talked about an oval track opening up. Was this referring to Galaxy Hobby or was it some other LHS?

I'm actually pretty hyped to get out there this spring.
It's been too many years for me away from the track.
BTW about the weather. You're probably right. It got all cold a week ago and then warms up to 70 today. Good old WI weather.
I have been reading your posts since you started this, its been interesting to read cause i used to live in stevens point in 1982, its a beautiful place to live, i would still be there if at the time i could have found a good job.
I was in to airplanes back then, but there wasn't any hobby shops there then, sounds like the town has changed alot.

Both Wausau and Point have grown hugely in the past 18 years.
I would say Wausau has expanded much faster and larger than Point though.
The only thing that hasn't changed about Point is that the college kids still ruin it for everyone else, and the streets still **** . LOL.
yea got tossed out of a few bars back then while mixing it up with a few of the collage brats, i used to live down the street from k-mart(if its still in the same place)across the street from the collage dorms, the apartments i lived in were right next to a lake that belonged to the century insurance complex, i'm getting to old to remember the street names, heck all this might not be there now, I still have friends there and in junction city.

They have a Schumahcer Big 6 Nitro model in there.
That thing is wicked. Like two feet long and huge tires. It weighs about one-third of a .21 buggy, so it must just fly across pavement. It has about 1" of ground clearence, so it can't bottom out on the rough lots around here.
Too bad he's so high on price or I'd have gone home with it. He wanted 400+.

Wisconsin RC Car racing league starting in Westsalem, WI. at the La Crosse Interstate Speedway Go-kart Track.
The first meeting for the newly forming RC Car racing league has been set for, Noon on Jan 21 2001. At Features Restaurant across from the Lacrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI. There is no NASCAR racing yet so you wouldn't have anything better to do on a Sunday afternoon. At that time we will cover the following:
- Rules see the start of the rules for the "Spec class" (http://www.4racers.com/spec/index.html)
- Motors
- Batteries
- Bodies
- Classes
- Club Fees
- Insurances
- And anything else you want to talk about (concerning RC Racing)
At this point we have:
- A track (1/10 mile paved, banked oval) used as a gokart track also
- A day of the week to race (Sundays)
- Insurance
- A couple of good sponsors
- The support of the local hobby shop (ABC Hobby in La Crosse)
- And people that want to Race
This is a GREAT start…… But, We need to know what kind of interest there is in the La Crosse area. This meeting will be a great way to gauge that.
We will also have on display the "Spec" class car, and all the equipment needed to race in this series.
This sport is a great way to spend time with friend and family alike.
For any other questions e-mail me at Gundy@4Racers.com or go to 4Racers.com (http://www.4racers.com)for the latest

Welcome to R/C.
Any questions you might have with ANY cars or what not, just drop me a mail at hpiguy@msn.com
I'm always happy to help.
A good place to run around here is the gravel pits out on CTY HWY N outside of Wausau, and the Roehl Pits on 107 by Marathon. Go on Sundays when they are shut down. Don't go when they are there cause they really don't care if you are in the pits on Sundays but if you go any other day when they are working they get very upset. Understandably though as I'm sure you can imagine.
Have fun.

Hi, I'm from Bonduel, which is between Shawano and Green Bay, so i know where a couple of tracks are located if anybody's interested. The tracks are as follows:
Best's Hobbies, 2700 W. College Ave.
Appleton, WI 54914
(920)734-5244
Dirt Heaven Hobby and Raceway
6028County Rd. K,
New Franken, WI 54229
(920)866-9096 www.dirtheaven.com (http://www.dirtheaven.com)
Pro-Star Racing
726 Pine St.
Green Bay, WI 54301
(920)494-1233
Dirt heaven is an indoor off-road dirt track. They do not race gas trcks at dirt heaven. Best's Hobbies is an indoor carpet track, where any electric vehicle with foam tires is raced. This includes stadium trucks. You could call Best's Hobbies about the out-door, dirt, off-road, track they use in the summer time, where gas trucks ARE allowed. I don't know much about Pro-Star Racing but it is listed in the Pro-Line track directory in Radio Control Car Action. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

You guys ever heard of Thunder Tech Racing (they make a carbon fiber chassis for the clod)? 'Cause I know Brad Pitt, co-founder of Thunder Tech, and 9 time world pulling champ. He's from Bonduel, WI. The only problem is I can't talk to him much because he's in Califonia working on production chassis. It's pretty cool how powerful those motors he uses are (they can burn the carpet up if the tires spin too much). http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

I think Wisconsin is MONSTER TRUCK territory, especially for theT-Maxxes and Nitro MTs. (my neighbor owns a HPI Nitro MT and it rocks!) Visit www.esphobby.com (http://www.esphobby.com) for thier cool products. HPI is based in Genoa City, so it shouldn't be too far away from you hpiguy.

Hey guys,
I'm looking forward to a new track in Wausau, or any new track in the upper 1/2 of the state. Will the track be big enough for 1/8 nitro buggies. I hope so. I race in Oshkosh on Wed and Sun during the racing season, but would like to hop around some this year... Sheboygan, Wausau etc...
I'm glad to see this thread is still going...
Keep it up

Hey I raced once this year in Oshkosh, loved the track, I had my Kyosho Raider that I raced. I took 4th place, not bad considering there were only 3 other cars there LOL. But since I didn't play with the thing for about 4 years and then finally got it fixed about an hour before the race and didn't get to actually the tune the car up, I think I did pretty good.

Hey HPI, I live in Appleton, WI (by Greenbay) and Ilike JJ's Dirt Heaven (in Oshkosh). Great track. Also, Best Hobbies has races, indoor, carpet oval every tuesday night from 6 till 10. Great! There is a hobby shop within walking distance too!! My hometown track is at the conservation club. Good, straight up racing on a dirt track. Everybody helps everybody, no cheating, great group to know! I go there and camp and just race my xxxt spec and at night, i go to the triples or the table top and just have fun with my pede. Hope ta see ya!!

Hey Chris,
The address for JJ;s Dirt Heaven (now Dirt Heaven Hobby and Raceway) is 6028 County Rd. K, New Franken, WI 54229. The web site for them is www.dirtheaven.com. (http://www.dirtheaven.com.) The Conservation Club's address is N3502 Mayflower Rd. Hortonville, WI 54944. I do not know the address for Best Hobby's race track but, I do know the address of their hobby shop. It is 2700 West College Ave., Appleton, WI 54914. You could stop in there or call the phone number (920) 734-5244. The phone number for Dirt Heaven Hobby and Raceway is (920)866-9096. The phone number for the Conservation Club is (920) 739-9211. Another track/hobby shop you might want to try is S&N's Trackside Hobbies and Raceway who's address is 6045 N. Green Bay Ave. Milwaukee, WI 53209. The phone number for them is (414) 351-1910. Happy RCing and keep in touch.

Hey Fireball you lucked out, there is 3 r/c tracks in your area, but the one in Waukesha is indoor only. S&N's trackside hobbies is the best place in Wisconsin to race (or so I've heard) and it shouldn't be too far from you.

I'm a WI racer, first time I've visited this forum.
Today was supposed to be the first outdoor sedan (mod sedan, nitro sedan, stock F1) race in Madison, but was cancelled due to the rain. Two weeks from today (5/19) will be the next one, and then week following that in Beaver Dam.
We are having our work party for the Madison off-road facility next weekend and racing could begin as soon as two weeks from now. 1/10 nitro truck, 1/10 electric truck mod, 1/8 nitro buggy and the brand T-Maxx racing class. Those races will be weekly on Sundays.
For directions to either track pay a visit to the MARCCA forum on RCtouring (www.rctouring.com) and people will be happy to answer any questions...

I'm still here, just lurking.
The intelligence level of this board has fallen off recently and I haven't replied to any of these topics for awhile.
It irks me to see the same fifty questions asked over and over again because some kid doesn't want to use the search.
Also I can only look at the topics from work. This new board design will not let me sign in from work anymore.
The ancient comp in my office can't handle all this HTML stuff.
But I'm still around. Somewhere.

sounds like hpiguy has a bug up his butt. I had already done my research of where to race but I was looking for which places where fun to race and drew a bigger crowd. BTW... I'm not a kid. I found that the best place to race is in oshkosh and thats too far for me to go with the price of gas. So i bought a TC3 and i'm going to just race at trackside. Great place, helpful staff, auesome people to race with. I posted a picture of it in the electric forum under a thread called got a TC3.. now what??. Let me know what you think.

Sorry... I was just a little edgy, I spent a little too much money in the last few days on my new TC3. If you want to see it there is a thread in the electric forum called First TC3... now what. I posted a pic there. I can't wait to get it up and running. But I'm probably going to gey my rear kicked for a while because the guys at trackside are pretty quick. Another few weeks and I'll have everything I need. I usually just throw a car together at first to get it going but this time I'm taking my time and doing it right the first time. Hence all the alloy on my car!! :D Sorry again for being snappy. Later

That's OK. I just wanted to defend myself on that one.
I can see your car and it's nice.
If on-road was more popular I'd buy a new one, but my "out of date" RS4 Pro does just fine for me now in the lots and streets.
It has a two speed so it's fun for speed runs, and to catch the cars going too fast on my street.
My car does approx 35 to 38mph so when I can't easily pass the cars going by I know they are way over the 25mph speed limit.
hpiguy
05-14-2001, 02:45 PM
At $2.10 a gallon, that's about a 100 bucks in gas just to race my toy car.
I think I'll pass. :)
Then in Milw you guys have that junk gas too, makes the car run bad and get worse gas mileage, and causes cancer. Not my idea of fun either.

Hey, anyone from the Milwaukee area looking to race your car, or even bash around with fellow R/C nuts! I have found a PERFECT place to run cars of any type. It is a HUGE parking lot that has recently been completely redone and there is PLENTY of smooth and flat room to run.
I'm looking to get a bunch of people together and hold races or even just running around. I'm willing, with some support, to even start up a racing league of some sort.
Let me know if there is any interest here. Email me at fireball@the-shadows.net for more information!
