Due to complaints about the noise (doggone 8th scales) we have to reduce the activity at my track. I'm thinking about reducing to every 3rd or 4th weekend. It's amazing it took this long to get flack from the neighborhood. There is a possibility of building another track at a different location this year. Give me a call/e-mail after Easter & I'll have something worked out by then.

7/17/01 update: we are running about every 2 weeks & the neighborhood is not complaining too much. Folks a couple houses up the street are having a backyard wedding on 8/11/01 so I promised to keep things quiet that weekend. I can see it now: 2 or 3 8th scales blasting down the main straight just as she says "I do"

Sorry to hear that Mark. :(
I know Greg and Jeff were thinking about starting some sort of track. If Frederick won't bite on that ya think anyone out there may be interested in leasing an acre? (A little closer in would be good) Take some time but it'll get you off the hot seat. It wouldn't take much to talk me into springin for a year if it's not outrageous so long as there's help in constructing something. No one over here will do it because of the noise and the Model Air guys have a pretty strong 'ol boy' presence. They don't care much for us I think.
Think any one else would be interested?

Have a great Easter.

Hey Mark. Bummer about your neighboors man. Sorry I havn't had a chance to come out to your track yet. I've been sidelined the past several months battling Crohns Disease. I'd be VERY interested in helping you guys build elsewhere as soon as I'm back to my old self again. I'll bet we could find a farmer that would be willing to rent us some land real cheap.

Hey Marko, missed ya last Sunday... although the rain did get a little heavy by 3pm or so. We ended up in the garage "bench racing for the last couple of hours. Next time will be June 3rd.

MadMarko

Hey Mark,
Surprised that you got to run at all. Rained all day down here didn't even think you'd try it. Man that's hardcore - I love it. Took advantage of the down time to get some stuff done. Ken gave that old Mugen RR to Hunter so we've been piecing it together. Had to leave the race early last week for my own reception. Can you believe that!
I think we are going to try Dumfries this weekend if the weather is good. June 3 sounds good, I'll be there and let some others know.

Did ya pick up a new MP yet?

Heard anything about Jeff and Gregs track? Are they trying to get it going this summer?

Have a great Memorial weekend!

Getting a new 7.5 today hopefully if it comes in at Hobbytown. The T-Maxxes were a blast Sunday as the track got softer from the rain until there was so much water it was like an ice rink  sliding all over the place. I'll have the new car ready by next weekend, I can't wait to drive something that'll actually handle well again :D

Hey Mark,
Sorry I couldn't make it out today. Wife put the hammer down, we leave for vacation next Saturday. I convinced her to that we would leave B]after[/B] the race Saturday. Took a heck of a lot of negotiating. You oughta come on down. You're the only one that can chase Greg around the track. Especially if ya got that new Kyosho running. Heck of a kick with a bunch of buggies screaming around. By the way they landed the Regional down there in August. That oughta be cool.

Mark98SS

Got the 7.5 together, Greg wasn't there so I don't know if I'll be able to keep up w/him now. Man that thing is smooth! I'm going to try to not run it too much & save it for maybe the regionals. Next one is June 17-hope you can make it.

Mark,
How're ya doing? Track holding up? When is you're next scheduled day? I'm finally gonna be around this weekend. Didn't do too badly last week down in Waldorf trophy race. Greg didn't show though. Finally made the A and got 7th. Feel pretty good about that. I'm gonna head down to that Watermelon Classic next weekend and need practice badly.

You gonna run that 7.5 down at the regionals?
There is a prep race the weekend before, club guys, come on down.

07-19-2001, 06:19 AM
Hey Mark, good to hear from ya. The next date is 7/29/01. The track has been a little dusty of late but otherwise holding up well. I'm gonna try some used oil on the back stretch to see if it will stabilize the dirt any & hold down the dust clouds. I'd like to do the regional provided there are no conflicts-I have alot already scheduled for August, we'll probably run maybe once that month at my track. What are the dates for the practice & the big race, is pre regristration necessary? I hope you can make out on the 29th.

Hey Mark,
Hope you had a good holiday.
Best kinda rain, slow and soakin, no job site blow-outs and better conditions. Is next Sunday gonna be playtime?

MadMarko:p

Mark98SS
11-25-2001, 04:59 PM
Yes, rain it's a good thing. I ran the T-Maxx a little today before the rain got heavy. Conditions were excellent, hopefully the dirt will retain enough moisture for the rest of the fall/winter. Later this afternoon as I was watching it rain & the areas between the triples & a couple other spots filled with water I wondered about a way to collect rain water to use at a later time for track watering. Some kind of pond or something where I could pump all the water that collects during a heavy rain & save it for the dry spells. Maybe I could reconfigure the layout to have a large infield in one area & have the pond there. Then when it rains hard I can pump all the water there. I still think during the summer most of the collected water would evaporate though.

Yeah, prolly next weekend could work I'll just have to do a dirt moisture reading Saturday & if we run & things dry out too much just quit early or something. Trying to be sensative to my neighbors, ya know.

MadMarko
11-25-2001, 07:27 PM
Water collection can be a very nasty business. Stagnation, mosquitoes and other little critters. In order to stop evaporation and percolation it'd have to be fairly deep, lined, and covered.
Best bet is what they used do down at DRCW, keep a couple of big barrels (I think they were 150 gals or so) filled after a rain.

I'll drop a mail later this week.

Mark98SS
11-27-2001, 06:41 PM
Yeah, I hear ya about the mosquito infested pond thing & all. What I really need is some kind of treatment for the the dirt that'll hold the dust down. Something I can spray down on the surface & let soak in but not be hazardous to the environment. I got that little creek next to the track ya know & I don't want anything flowing down to the river.

With the rain forcast it looks promising for this weekend so keep in touch

MadMarko
11-27-2001, 08:17 PM
Cool,
I'll try to find out what they used at Homers and at SMOR. Some kind of liquid soil cement. It did not seem to affect any of the surrounding grass areas. Some of your clients may know of something other than tilling in Portland cement like we use for road construction. Up at Pitstop they just lay down Calcium to hold water, but that destroys the soil for a number of years and can't be too friendly. Although, some types of Halite used for snow and ice are said to be safe. It's all salt so the ability to hold water is a given.

Anybody know of any Off-Road tracks that Race STOCK class in the Southern Maryland or Fairly Close area. SOMR didn't run Electrics last year, and the closest I found was all the way in Dumfries VA.

rcjon
01-04-2002, 07:40 PM
There are only like 3 tracks in maryland.
=Aarons
=Marks
=Waldof, MD - dont run electric i dont think

we run electric at aarons. Well actually last time there where 11 gas trucks and buggies but i bought one electric. I can put a stock motor in it an race you and my niehgbor has a electric that he can put in a stock motor. I need new batteries and a new charger though.

Mark98SS
01-05-2002, 08:25 AM
Sabian:
The quickest lap ever recorded at my track was a 4wd elec buggy. It had an 11 turn motor & was driven by an experienced racer. If you're looking for actual organized racing Dumfries is gonna be the place, but you're welcome to practice at my place, it's prolly farther than you want to travel tho.

rcjon:
You set the time & we'll do it. Maybe have a Saturday run at my track so you can make it.

MadMarko:
Yeah it's pretty frozen & in the afternoon when/if thawing occurs it gets real sloppy. Last Sunday was T-Maxxes on the lawn. Jeff brought out his new EK4-what a monster!. He also has an OS 99vrb in the Maxx. I of course run dogdoo outa my .21 T-Maxx. If we get a little warm up conditions might improve enough taht you won't spend the whole next week cleaning the mud off everything.

Keep in touch.

rcjon
01-05-2002, 09:45 AM
Well i dont think i should come since i dont have anything running. I need batteries for my electric and need to get my buggy tuned right. How do you do lap tiimes at your track? I want to bring my friends laptop to the next race at aarons house and use some manual lap counting thing like easy rc.

Mark98SS
01-05-2002, 12:03 PM
Jon, we use a stopwatch & time individual laps. We never do any actual lap counting, just serious dicing. We'll get 2-4 cars on the track & once everyone is warmed up the pack will form at the beginning of the long straight. Then it's a drag race to the first turn. After a couple/3 laps the field is spread out so the fast guys slowup & wait for the slow guys who cut a couple turns to catch up-reform the pack at the long straight & do again. Repeat as needed. :D

I have a bunch of old 1700's you can have a few if you want. They're old & don't have the punch but they are free.

rcjon
01-05-2002, 12:33 PM
Sweet that be cool. Well my nieghbor just got this kick butt laptop and he has a nitro pede and electric pede and a full option Rs4pro3. So i'll get him to bring all his stuff and lap counting software and my dad can keep track. It can keep track of like 7cars.

I really want a job. I got tons of money for christmas but i dont think i should spend it becuase im saving for car insurance for when i turn 16. If it wasnt for that i'd have all kinds rc stuff.

Oh and which one of you owns the track? Is it mark or madmarko? I'm trying to figure out which ones which.
Madmarko is the one with the truck and a kid right?

Your track is real far away from me. Email me the address so i can see how far it is on mapblast or something.

Oh and is anyone interested in a onroad track? My church has a huge parking lot and we are getting it re done like next summer so we can run on it now and tear it up and no one will care. My dads the deacon so we can do it. We also have cones and stuff and I could bring some hoze that we could use to make a track. My friend has a on-road car and i can run my trucks on the road. lol.

Mark98SS
01-05-2002, 12:55 PM
Correct, Madmarko has the dark color Ford p/u & had his son Hunter with him that day at Aaron's. I have the red Chevy p/u & own the track. It's another 40 minutes past Aaron's but you really gotta make the effort some time. Maybe Aaron can come with you.

rcjon
01-05-2002, 01:01 PM
Yea i really want to try to get there. I really want to get my dad into rc. He doesnt want to spend the whole day there like i do. Cant wait till i can drive. Or maybe i can just get a ride to aarons and he can drive me. Aarons is already 40min from my house. Pretty far drive all the way there, but we will definitly try to get there. As long as your neighbors dont get mad.

The neighbor thing as far as noise is not a problem as much anymore 'cause we dont run every Sunday like last year so they can't beef at me with anywhere near the level of rightousness as before. We do however have to be careful about dry conditions where we might kick up alot of dust. The one neighbor (he's pretty cool overall) nearest the track happens to be on the east side so is usually down wind & when it's dry his house gets a little dusted. :( So that's really the only issue. We still have had some days with 15 or so guys & 25 or so cars total. Pretty fun as you can have a session for each type of car for 15-20 minutes at a time. We usually run M/Ts, 8th scales, 2wd gas trucks & electrics as seperate groups with the understanding that the track is actually open to all cars at all times provided you have the frequency clip for your channel. So pick a day & we'll work it out. If Marko knows enough in advance he'll prolly come out even if it is cold outside.

Yea cold aint that fun. Thats cool to get that many people to come and make it kinda competive. Got any huge jumps around you? Like for after like for a movie for my web site? I dont know about when, id have to see when i could get a ride.

There is plenty of air to be had on these. When the 7.5 hits that thing at full throttle it gets waaayy up & outta there.

that thing is small. looks smaller then aarons. Do you have AIM?

Mark98SS
01-05-2002, 09:37 PM
Those are 12-14 ft wide so you can actually hit 'em with big landing areas. Theres plenty of accelleration & braking area. I coulda got unreal air off the jump at Aaron's but it's hard to hit cause it's relatively narrow & a little unforgiving with the plywood edges.

Mark98SS
01-05-2002, 09:38 PM
I don't have aim

rcjon
01-05-2002, 10:02 PM
Well what are the walls on that jump made off? it looks like wood. 12foot wide is kinda wide dont you think?

Mark98SS
01-05-2002, 10:10 PM
12 ft wide is minimal for a competition style track. Yes the sides are plywood but they're not as high as the grade of the track surface so even if ya miss the 12 ft wide jump ya don't trash something hitting the 3/4 plywood "on edge."

Jon - Marks track is probably 3 times the size of Aaron's and twice as wide. I race a lot now and Mark's track is of better quality than some of the tracks I've raced at and definitely more technical. That's why Hunter and I love to go there, plus the racers are a good bunch. If you need it and someone has it, its yours, so we can ALL keep having fun.

Remember I live in Laurel and Hunter lives over off tridelphia road so I go by Dayton whenever we run at Marks. If I bring the Suburban I have plenty of passenger room if anyone needs a ride out.

Mark - I'll definitely come anytime. I don't care about no stinkin cold.:p been outside most of my life. I may not run a race motor but love to trash the used motors. Lean em out and let em rip:rolleyes: You guys gonna run the Maxxes in the snow I bet! Get some pix and post em.

I hope it does snow so we can run Monster trucks out there. It prolly won't tho 'cause I'm ready. Just finished hanging the blade on tractor & wraping chains around the rear tires. The big problem right now is the track is so hard if you tumble something breaks. Shattered the wing on 7.5 last Sunday.

01-06-2002, 06:03 PM
Well, like 6 guys showed up today-it started sleeting then turned to rain. Surface was loose granular mud....yuk! Even the EK4 was havin probs with the wheelstands. Blew the rear (for the umpteenth time) in the T-maxx & made a mess outa the 7.5. All in all a good time

Hey guys thanks for the feedback about the tracks, but like Mark said its pretty far for me (Nice Looking track) . It takes me about an Hour to get to Dumfries. Anyways, I made a few phone calls around the area and looks as though there are going to be 1 possibly 2 NEW tracks this coming summer. The Definite 1 is going to be at "Old Town Hobby" in Manassas and the other is Dougs Hobby Shop in Waldorf, They have a Track drawn up already and is just awaiting approval. Just a little info if your interested. Just hope one out of the two will have a STOCK class.

Well, I'm not suprised that Fredneck is too far away for you. Mannassas & Waldorf are almost the same to me - Manassty being a little closer. If they run gas & elec maybe I'll run into ya sometime Sabian. I'm really gonna try & get out to a real race or 2 this year.

Just fired up the puter. Been up in Ohio for the CRCRC Indoor National. Good time!!!!!!!!!!! Crazy traction track - like stickum surface. Way not used to that kind of traction. Most all of the MD boys were up there and I took Hunter too. Took a lot of talking to yank him out of school Friday but he had a good time. He was a little upset that he didn't do better. I think he was 104th out of 129. I thought that was pretty darn good for a race like that considering he was the youngest 1/8th scaler by probably eight years or so.
Time to get some new buggies though. The EB's have a year on em now and we beat the poop out of them up there. High grip track and walls make for some pretty extensive yard sales in the corners.:p I lost a wing in my main so I just let it rip since I lost most of my traction out of the groove. Power slides baby:D , let it all hang out. What a gas! Had all the boys laughing.

I'm always in for some running, name the time (except this weekend) gotta be good for a week!

that sounds fun! I've always wanted to race like that. But id be scared racing Nitro. To much depends on the engine. 129 people is a lot. I wish my dad got me into rc when I was little.

Awsome, Marko how did you do? You're right, Hunter should fell pretty good to qual ahead of 25 others. I did the carpet oval Nats back in '94 was about mid pack which I thought was great since I'd never run the track before that weekend. We ran Sunday & it was real nice. A little muddy at first but the surface came in & ended up pretty tacky by the end of the day. Greg tuned the carb in my 7.5 & it really started to run like stripped azz ape.

I couldn't keep it together in buggy. Barely finished the main in front of Hunter. Did OK in 1/10th though. SOmwhere in the lower middle of the pack. Lead my main from start till I got hung on a pipe and the marshall did not see me. Lost half a lap and came off pipe in 3rd. Took back second and closing on 1st when time expired. Shoulda bumped up but settled for a 1st place plaque. All fun. Turned more laps in 1/10 than 1/8, go figure. Gotta go slow to win.

Hey Mark
Just got done completely regrading the track in Pasadena. We are gonna get it done hopefully by Sat morning. I'll see if I can figure out how to post some pix. It's 170X70. Wide lanes, lots of people on weekends. If we get it done you might grab a few of the boys and check it out Sunday.

Otherwise I'll see you on the 24th.

How many people are going to be there Sunday? I don't have anything running right now (trying to get my new 4-stroke into my MP6), but I'd like to bring my daughter out to watch. I'm hoping she'll catch the R/C bug!

During the course of the day probably 15 or twenty guys if the weather holds out. We will also be trying to finish up the track renovations Sat afternoon and Sunday morning. If you know someone locally then they know about the rebuild.

I'm gonna have to curtail until the drought is over as I don't wanna dust the neighborhood again :D Marko: We gonna have any prob with dryness & dust in Pasadena?-I'm willing to drive there next weekend if no rain here.

MadMarko
03-01-2002, 12:03 PM
Mark,
It got a little dusty there last weekend, we just had to stop every couple hours and do some brooming. No biggee, everyone helped. No neighbors (big park), Water is off till April 1. It looks like rain this weekend starting Sat afternoon so we will run in the morning Saturday. Sunday looks real crappy at this point. Give me a jingle this evening 410 808 5960.
