Hey i live in gurnee which is north of chicago and next waukegan, i was wondering if anyone here lives near me? Or knows of any tracks by me? I am interested in racing 1/8 buggys.

I live near Gurnee too... actually in Grayslake. I don't know of any off-road tracks in the area, and that ***** . I know there's a group down in Palatine that races on Sundays at Harper College. But that's not much good if you want to race 1/8 scale buggies.
I live near Hoffman Estates (near) and Elk Grove (near). I race at Radio-Active Raceway in Bolingbrook. Look it up in the track directory and you'll find everything you need to know, off-road, electric, nitro, and a phone # http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif hope to see ya there

will anyone here go to the Kyosho World Cup Regionals, the midwest regionals are taking place at leisure hours in plainfield, illinois. are any of you gonna go, i might,   :p ;) :D
Tony (TC3 McLaren F1)- I cant buy the V-One-S, I have absolutely no money. Can't we just practice with your car? Im sure we both can get enough time behind the wheel, I could set-up any track ya like...im going to buy a bunch of wood soon.
I would buy the V1S if I had the money, but I dont, we can still enter the KWC together right? If so, whos gunna be are pit man to refuel, because one of us has to be marshalling while on is driving.

Venture Hobbies is good, but they dont carry as many car parts, you usually have to order them. Al's Hobby Shop in Elmhurst, IL is where i got, great place (although the new teenagers are a little cocky), www.alshobbyshop.com (http://www.alshobbyshop.com) . Radi-Active Raceway has a lot of stuff for such a small track (never failed me once with my GT), but they may be towards the offroad side because they have offroad tracks there even though i did see a couple on road car kits. I HEARD Leisure Hours has a pretty good store, not sure at all though. Your best bet is Al's Hobby Shop.

This is Brian, I run the on-road track in Palatine at Harper College. See www.sharingideas.com (http://www.sharingideas.com) for all the info on that. As for 1/8th scale buggies, I own one and am looking for a place to race too. AJ's in DeKalb runs them on Saturdays, June 2nd I might drive out there to race. Radio-Active in Bolingbrook is a great track for off-road but I don't think they do 1/8th? I hear nothing but good things about them though. As for Hobby Shops, Al's is great in Elmhurst. We are actually a dealer now ourselves, we stock tires, fuel, glow plugs, etc. the stuff to keep you racing on Sunday basically. Our race fee is only $10 this year and we also have a 1 hour enduro coming up May 27th that we are looking for teams to get signed up for - email me at brian@sharingideas.com for details or to sign up. 2-4 man teams with 2 cars per team. Our next regualar race is May 20th, hope to see you all there. Nofear6150-You in for June 2nd?

Yea i'd like to go out and do that! Not sure if i have anything planned for that day but if i don't i will defenitly try to come out.
What kind of 1/8 do u have? I have the OFNA Ultra GT LX that would be a decent racer. I would love to come out but Dekalb is pretty far from Gurnee. So im not sure that i would be able to.

If anyone is interested in just fun racing, HobbyTown in Oak Park is where I race. It's a great place for anyone and I mean anyone, even someone who just walked in the store and bought an RC to come race without the overly competative atmosphere. The races are held every other Sunday and the next is on June 17. There are electric and nitro car and truck classes. Starting the 17, we're kicking off a jumping class!!!

AJ's in Dekalb has off-road on Sat. and Asphalt oval and road coarse on Sun.. They race all electric vehicles in oval and road course in the fall, winter, and spring inside. Machnesey Park Raceway is an oval track for 1/4. I think they race smaller cars, but not for sure. AJ's has a great carpet indoor track, newly redone dirt track, and a new asphalt track. I live in Wayne, Il and have a 12 acre back yard that I have made a flat large oval track in. I was thinking of trying to put together a club or just a bunch of buggy drivers to race and improve the track. I'm getting plenty of practice on an oval super speedway but it's aloat better with some competition. Many of you guys are close to me but still pretty far, but for a good track how far would you drive?

hey how was that kwc race? i saw the last like 20 min of the last race, were any of u the guys that won? and to the guy with the 12 acre back yard, where is wayne illinois at?
Oh, what a crap race. Only 8 cars showed, and we placed 5th. Oh yea, only 5 cars ran the 1hr main...
The car was LOOSE, not hooked up at all, very slippery. The engine kept stalling on this ONE turn, on every other lap, if not every lap. Everyone but us had a 2 speed. I was luckily the pit man, unluckily, I was the pit man. It was fun, except for burning my finger real bad reaching inbetween the manifold and pipe to grap a hot pullstarter about 60 times, many in a row. The car was way out of wack on the tuning. The fourth place car already won in Canada, so hes going to dubai anyways. The top 3 cars were the same "team." Same paint job (scheme) but each were a different main color. They had the edge. At least the car started easily every time.
A good thing DID come out of it. There were SO many people that watched. At least 15 people came up to me and Tony (TC3 McLaren F1) asking "cool! How much is it? Where can I get one?!" Every time I said "about $300 for these cars, and VERY fast. They even have electric ones which are cheaper and easier to use. Right over there (point) there's a hobby shop called Leisure Hours. They have what your looking for and I'm sure they will answer any questions you have." I saw about 7 adults ask me, about 5 16-18 year olds, and a few 8-14 yr olds.
That was just from me, Tony, got a few too. There were a lot of spectators. Tony's dad, and me (including John when he wasnt driving) MASTERED working on the car. I would put glow plug in/start, Tony's dad would refuel, John would pull body off and play with settings and someone would throw the car on the track. So good to the point that I started timing how long they were. Averaging around 5-6 seconds including tuning and 3-4 with no tuning. Both include refueling.
Kyosho was great. They gave out cars for the winners of open gas and electric (V-One R and another Ky. elec. car). Many, many spectators.
Oh why do I type so much?
Oh yea, for any of those on-roaders. Im goign to start racing my V-One R at Harper college. Its a pretty good place. No parts, or electricity, so nitro is more common, although they do run electric.

Yeah, it used to be RMR (somthing like that). They've got the small indoor carpet track, and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, they set up a large outdoor track on the asphalt for the nitro players. The track is pretty smooth. It's 'treated' each day with their own proprietary traction juice.
