I race on road at the Hobby Stop. Great place with great service. It is in Rock Hill SC, about 20 minutes from down town Charlotte.

There also used to be a off orad track in Kannapolis NC, about 25-30 minutes north of Charlotte, I am not sure if it is still around, I will try to scout it out. It was off of Hwy 29.

Cool, I've been out of racing about 7 years and I've just bought all new gear and I'm ready to get back into all the racin' I can get :)

Right now I'm going back to racing 2wd buggy stock and mod. I'm 23 now, I was 16 when I quit, used to live in PA and I live around Matthews.

Once I get back into racing again, bout 2 weeks from now I'll see how things go and I may move to truck stock and mod as well.

What type of racing you doing? What part of Charlotte you in? How old are you?

Talked to some guys over the weekend who live in Kannapolis, The dirt track is still there, sort of. The shop is there, but they stopped racing and the track is over grown with grass and weeds. Don't know what it would take to get them to start racing again.

Thats too bad.. I talked to a couple of guys over the weekend that said the track on the west side of town by the airport is almost done, but is a little behind schedule. Hopefully they get things up and running there soon.

Thanks for the info guys!

I keep hearing about that track, but I haven't been able to find it yet. Let me know if you get an exact address for it. The concrete track I have been racing on is hard on tires. I may go to the go cart track in Matthews and ask them if they would be interested in running rc races. It would be a killer on road track.

If you get those guys to let us race RC there.. I'll be compelled to go by a road car :)

And if that happens all we'll need is for a Buggy MOD class to show up at the Grove (2 or 3 heats would be nice :) ) and my racing comeback happiness will be complete :)

Best place for you to race is the Hobby stop in Rock Hill (right at exit 77 on I-77. Offroad races are Friday night at 6:30. Done about 11:30 depending on number of classes racing. Only other tracks I know of are King, NC (race about 1 sat/month)near Winston-Salem; and Aiken, SC. If interested I can send you info.

I'd be interested in going to some of those tracks. We are coming down to Chapel Hill this weekend to race. I'd like to find some more tracks down that way.

The big race there is the Watermellon Classic which is thursday thru Sunday July 26-29 Email jackson@ifx.net for more info. about the track and about the Watermelon Classic.null

Anyone heard anything on the status of the new off-road track that was supposed to go in over by Charlotte airport?

I'm starting to consider what starting up an indoor offroad track in Charlotte would cost :)

Honestly, the only thing that makes me a little shakey on doing it is A) its a TON of cash upfront B) I can't be sure I'll get enough people to make a go of it and C) I don't have the time or the $$ flow to start up an on-site shop. But we'll see.. it won't be this summer, but maybe over the winter I can get something going. How old are you Interceptor? I'm going to need someone to help run races and stuff :)

Lets see, based on roughly 3000 / month in expenses (electric, rent, blah blah blah) we'd have to have at least 175 racers a month to pay the bills at 15 bux a person, I guess if we did 15 first class, 5 each additional class that might be feasible.

I'm 27, but I know nothing about business :-) Well, that is not intirely true, I worked in a paintball shop for a while, so I know how to manage a shop, order stuff, sales, stuff like that. I don't think I would be any good with the books :-)
I'm still learning how all the classes work, I'm new to racing, but I will be more than happy to help run things if I am still in town when/if it happens. There are alot of guys in the area that would run if there was a place, so I don't think it would be hard to get enough people, plus word of mouth. There is a place in Matthews off of 74 that has a go cart track, mini golf, batting cages, and an arcade. You might be able to get them to let you use that track for rc, although it is pretty big and we would need to build a tower. Also, there is a place were 85 and 77 intersect that races go carts indoors. They might be willing to help to. IF you want, I'll get the phone numbers for you.

**** , and I thought I was old getting back into doing this (I'm 23) :)

As far as classes and racing and what not goes, if there's anything I can do to give you some help just let me know. Luckily, most of my old knowledge really still applies, RC is like riding a bike, it all comes back after you do it again. :)

Talked to mean old Dave up at Hobby Town over the weekend. He said that the guy with the track near the airport is still working on it. As usual Charlotte has some funky rules about bathrooms and square feet and other zone type stuff. Hopefully we can get a local track real soon. I still like the Grove though.

Thank you!

No problem, didn't even think about it when I was typing :)

As far as the new track goes, do you have any ideas about what it is? Off-road and On? Indoor or out? etc?

I haven't been able to "find" it, although I think I know where the general area is, I drove over there the other day.

I'd like to get some contact info for the guy doing it and see if I could help him out any; you can never have too many places to race :)
