Well, if theres 5000 members, then I think we just have a few shy guys out there!
Well, I used to Live in Ithaca and visit there once in a while. I thought the Walt's hobby was the only place to race. I am a touring car guy and Walt's doesn't really have a good support for TC guys like me. I don't know it might have changed by now. It's been a while.

If you want to run on a dedicated paved road course or off-road the same day.check out our tracks at www.tarmacraceway.com (http://www.tarmacraceway.com) .We run Touring(electric and nitro),Rally, and F-1! as well as buggy and trucks. We are in Poughkeepsie New York.

Tarmac is a little too far away for me.
Hey Guys,
I am in upstate, but close enough to Syracuse (about an hour) Watertown area. I went to Walts after being out of the hobby for a couple of years and picked up a T3. The guys there were really friendly. I looked for a track but all they had was a dirt oval (I think) Doe anyone race off road electric around that area?
Where do you all go for your LHS? or parts?
What are you all running right now?
I bought my T3 last year and only ran it a couple of times because I want to race but cant find a place.
Since then I also picked up a Losi XXX KE (that was 3 weeks ago)
See you guys later (hopefully) :)
Back to the top!!!!!!! ;)

Im moving to oneanta in about 2 weeks from Staten Island NY and now I race at American Raceway in Jersey, I hope to find a track somewhere near me. How far away is Syracuse from me and what do they race.
My wife says its by Rochester, or in that area. I dont know what they race in Syracuse because I (try) to race 2wd buggy & truck and 4wd buggy, and last I knew Walts was only dirt oval. :(
BTTT...........need info from the CNY guys

Hey Walt's now has an off-road track, I havn't seen it yet but hopefully I can go down to walts soon to pick up some more body clips and then I'll take a look at it and ask em what they run on it. Oh I run a Tamiya mini cooper, I have taken it on their clay oval and had a blast with it. Hope this helps.
I have been also looking for a track or two for a while up there. I now live in Edison, NJ. So Englishtown isn't so far for me. Walt's has dirt oval and carpet oval I think. And they both are indoor. I think Walt's has been working on off-road track for quite sometime. I don't know the details, but when you look at the track listing at the end of RCCA magazine they also list off-road track. I would really be interested in the possiblity of running a rally car on that track :D
HumbleEagle487
07-17-2001, 05:08 PM
HKRC walt's got rid of the carpet track because people didn't use it. AlsoI the off-road track is open, but like I said I havn't used or seen it.
ovalnator
07-17-2001, 06:11 PM
HKRC, I used to race carpet at walts all the time; maybe I know you, whats your name??
DM76, Out in Cato, about 30 minutes west of Syracuse, theres a place called MTW raceway. They have a website, (same as track name w/ a www. and a .com)They have a paved oval (TC3s rock on that thing!!) and a nice offroad track. It only cost $4 to race, 3 heat and a main. They open around 2 PM for racing on Saturdays and you can stay till like 10 or 11 PM. Its a lot of fun, although turnout has been low. I too run a T3 and would be more than happy to help you set it up for there track. Also, pick up a set of Proline Stryker 2 tires and race at Walts on the oval. Like Humble Eagle said, its a blast.
ovalnator
07-17-2001, 06:12 PM
Humbleeagle, where in Liverpool are they running TCs?????
Matto29@yahoo.com
OHHHHH......... You are kidding guys!!!!
Walt's is an off road track now? thats awesome. I will have to go check it out this weekend. Nobody has been there yet huh?
If anyone gets info. please pass it along quickly!!! I am going to call them tommorrow, since it is 2:11 am now!!!
much thanks guys. :)
Sorry-
Thanks Oval, for the info that is. I have never raced at Walt's so you wouldn't know me, but now I am definately going down there. I am 70 miles away though :(
I might have to try that other track you are talking about too.
-Darin-
ovalnator: I never raced in Walt's so you wouldn't know me. I just stopped by Walt's to buy a couple of things and watched a coulpe of races.
So they got rid of the carpet. What do they have now? Is it just empty or did they expand the dirt oval?
HumbleEagle487
07-18-2001, 04:19 PM
Actually I think they race tc's in albany or someplace. I never saw the carpet track that they had but the clay oval is pretty big. I'm probably not gonna be able to goto walt's this weekend cause I'm gonna be at the Syracuse Nationals running around my mini cooper.

Anyone know of any other tracks in CNY???
ovalnator
07-22-2001, 09:21 AM
I honestly dont know if there are any more tracks in CNY. I know of 4 tracks that have closed up within the past 4 years. There is CRC raceway in the Utica/Rome area, I think a track in Ithaca, one in Binghamton. I wonder if there is a track search on this site.
yankees2000
07-22-2001, 05:10 PM
ok...where do you race??
The one in Ithaca is not that good. I think it is called Jerry's Arhery and RC track or somthing. Last time I was there they only had an oval track, I think is was a dirt. But then, it was about five years ago....
There was also a track called Ringwood RC junction that closed down. I guess the following was very small. They didn't have much either - asphalt oval.
I guess only decent place to race is in Poughkeepsie, which would be about 3 to 4 hours away from Syracuse unless Walt's comes up with somerhing :D
HumbleEagle487
07-22-2001, 08:49 PM
Well there's also those tracks in Victory NY. They did a thing on the news about how the guys neighbors didn't like him cause his PA system was loud and he didn't have the right papers but he toned down the PA and got the right papers.
ovalnator
07-26-2001, 08:01 PM
yeah thats the track in Cato!! You have to realize that you can hear the traffic on rt, 370 over the sound of the gas cars and the p.a.!!!
Ringwood Junction was an awesome track, but it was out in the middle of nowhere. I ll have to check out Jerrys. How big is there dirtoval???
HumbleEagle487
08-08-2001, 10:46 AM
Well I went to walts and I checked out the new outdoor track and its just a big dirt oval track. I was kinda bummbed out about that. Oh well. guess I'm gonna haveta get used to going around in circles.

ovalnator
09-10-2001, 12:04 AM
Dont buy the GT!!!! They dont race them in the winter (omly in the summer). I have a really nice RC10 sprint car w/ a dirt modified body that I can sell you. I dont have any batteries, charger, etc, but I do have a couple of new stock motors (a little slower but good to learn on) I can also sell you. W/ this you can race during the winter. Send me an email

dyno I think they race onroad down in albany and then there is Tarmac in Poughikpsie(spelling?) that looks pretty wild. I also wish there was an onroad track closer to syracuse too.
ovalnator

I think there is going to be one at MTW next summer. Its in Cato and about 5 miles down the road from me. ITs a fun place to race at.

Last summer My son and I went to the syracuse area for 3 days. We stayed in my van at a campsite. We went to walts outdoor track, and MTW. We didn't race, but on the way back we stopped in Brockport and raced there. It was a great time. Next summer I plan to do the same thing. I will be more near the albany area, but we will be hitting MTW if we can. Nice track.

Oval, don't know yet, I havn't been there. I got the number of the club that pulls there so I'll call them sometime this week to find out.
Steve, my brother was going out with a girl who lived in wolcott, too bad they broke up or else I would have a ride up there.:(

Steve, wheres the tracks in Wolcott??? I know of Mayhem Music and hobbies.
SteveH
02-11-2002, 06:08 PM
These are tracks made by some farmers for there kids. Pretty nice track when I used it last fall. Mayhem Music either has a track or knows of one. I keep meaning to get ahold of him and find out. I am pretty sure he said he owns one. Do you know what his track is?
SteveH
02-11-2002, 06:11 PM
Ovalnator, where are you from? I am assuming you are from upstate NY (Who the heck else would know of mayhem music!)
SteveH
02-11-2002, 06:27 PM
Nevermind Ovalnator, I see where you are from now. That would explain why you know that part of the woods!
ovalnator
02-14-2002, 06:02 PM
Im from Meridian!!!! Only a hop, skip and a jump away from Wolcott!! Mayhem is a carpet oval; really tight; they run trucks with rubber tires.
Now these other tracks; do they get a lot of people to race there?? And where abouts are they located????
Have you been to Walts lately???? Ill be there this Sat. for the February Frenzy.
drummer5
02-14-2002, 09:26 PM
Oval I'll try to make it down, probably bring my mini with me. Is there gonna be open racing? I should probably tear down the gearbox and rebuild it(it's be sitting all winter so I might want to do that.)
Cool! 3 pages!
SteveH
02-15-2002, 12:53 AM
Just a couple of friends that live outside of Wolcott. I haven't been there since last fall. I hope they build another this year.
I have heard of Walt's but never been there. Exactly where is that at? I asked Kevin if he would alow more people to come over, but I guess he is alittle nervous about it. Maybe by spring he will change his mind. He is a couple of miles down Whiskey Hill Rd. If you could, let me know where Walt's is. I don't think I can make it this weekend (working), but maybe some other time.

02-15-2002, 11:51 PM

steveh...there are quite a few dirt oval tracks in your area. there is a place in fairport that has 2 tracks (dirtoval). there is a track in canandaigua (dirtoval). these tracks are out doors. during the winter there is a club that runs on wednesday night in Irondequoit mall. They run both carpet oval and road course.
ovalnator
02-17-2002, 11:09 PM
Roush, what classes do they run, and do any decent drivers run there???
SteveH
02-18-2002, 12:54 AM
Thanks ovalnator, roush, where is that track in Canandaigua?
That is real close to home.
Roush
02-18-2002, 06:14 PM
ovalnator...they run the same classes that walt's runs....small block, big block, sprintcars, trucks and as of last year latemodel tc. I'd say there are quite a few good drivers that show up. A couple of them are northeast dirt oval champs.
SteveH...the track is located on rts 5&20 at the livestock exchange.
If you guys look at the web page www.dirtoval.com they have more info on the tracks in the area.

Bit of a revival here...
I've seen commercials for and talked to someone at Aftermarket Effects in Cortland, NY (halfway between Ithaca and Syracuse); they're an auto specialty store that is apparently breaking into R/C as well. According to the guy I talked to they're building 2 tracks: an off-road track and an asphalt on-road track as well, to be completed soetime early this coming summer.
Considering that there have been absolutely NO facilities for racing in classes I'm interested in (F1/Touring) around this area this sounds great to me. Anyone else have any word on this place?
All invited to join the Western NY thread. Coverage through Central NY and Southern Ontario even into Pa. Some great video's posted.
