I am learning my daughter basic airbrushing on a peice of glass that is about 16x24 in..
It can be painted and looked at from both sides. Plus it is easy to clean the paint off.
So I give you the same adivce. Get some thing and some cheap paint and pratice. Try differnt taping methods, spray pressures and nozzle openings etc. The more that you are able to pratice and develope your own techinc the better you will get.
Some tips that may help get you going is to use automotive pin stripping tape found at auto parts stores. It is great for taping flames, pin stripes etc..
Pratice and you soon will be doing your own custom paint jobs.

I just painted a body that has the chameleon effect. You can do it without the special paints. It was pretty simple. Mine changes from blue to purple depending on your angle. All I did to do this was to spray a light coat of blue and let it dry. Then I sprayed the purple and dry. I kept doing this until the body was coated properly. I used metallic paints to do this - don't know how it will work with regular colors. Also, I ended up using Pactra spray paint instead of my brush, which broke after my first coat. The effect definetly will be better with an airbrush though. Sorry to ramble so long. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

My best sufggestion is to go to the supermarket and buy a picnic-sized stack of paper plates. These are great for testing your "ideas" on before comitting to Lexan. The cardboard material also makes a cool shield to use for shadows. walk before you run...start w/ 1 color, 2 color masked jobs and then work on fades. HAVE FUN MOST IMPORTANTLY!
