Hey. Sorry I keep posting like this.
Anyway, I was reading my can of Window Tint and it says I need to put at least 2 coats of Covercoat over the previously painted surfaces.
Do I really need to do this? Is this Covercoat anything special, or can I just put 2 other coats of paint on?
BTW, my car is yellow with 1 coat of white underneath right now. Awaiting window tint.
I have just enough time to get to the hobby shop before it closes...

I would put another one or two coats of white on before you try to tint the windows.

How does that window tint work. Do you need an airbrush?

Do exaclty what they say!!! That stuff is crazy! It will eat through your regular paint so be careful. Also, do quick, VERY THIN coats, and let them dry COMPLETELY before shooting more. It will run like nothing you've ever seen. It doesn't look like its doing anything at first, but just let it dry then put a little more on, do this until you get the look you want, don't spray more than just a small amount at once. I ruined a beautifullty painted BMW M3 body with that stuff. That having been said, it looks really great when you do it right.

I tried to use some on an old body so i wouldnt screw up a new one (good choce on my part) cause it made the old srewed up body look reallly old and scrwed up, but i may try again, on another old body, to see if i can get it to work right. Im gonna paint my new body white, so is it a good idea to use it on a white body?

It will work fine on a white body. You'll still want to undercoat the white though. Ask your LHS because theres only like on kind of paint it won't eat through so after you're done painting but before you tine, you need to undercoat with that paint. It's a white paint but I can't remember which one...

Hey,
Ok, the back of the tint says this:
"...spray a minimum of two coats of RC290 Covercoat over the previously painted surfaces prior to applying Window Tint."
I decided after reading the posts to get that exact product and I've put the first coat on. I'm going to put another coat on and go to bed. In the morning I'm going to tint the windows. I'll post my results (if they're good ones) when I'm done.

I didn't know that tint stuff was so hard to use. I guess I won't be trying it.
Perhaps you can use real car tint for your car. A local car tinting place might have scraps of really expensive tint in their trash that you can utilize. Just a thought.

Ugh. I'm so sad. I couldn't order a new Ferrari 360 Modena body because they're not in stock yet at Tower.
I got a Raybrig 2000 NSX instead, and you can bet your sweet bippy I'm going to be painting the windows BLACK!
What a rip off. I'm going to write pactra with my sever disappointment and see if they'll do anything about it. - A real letter by mail should get their attention.
- I'm not going to post pics of my car, it looks pretty bad, sniff -

What's wrong with leaving the windows clear?
There are rules some places that require that anyone should be able to see the radio equipment through the windows. You'll be surprised how often you look through the windows to see inside for some reason or other.

Ok,
I said I wasn't going to post a picture, but after I put the decals on it didn't look that bad.

I'll probably leave my next body clear if it's a requirement at races.

hey man, that looks pretty good. does not seem to messed up, at least from here. you should see the truck body i just tried to paint, my first body i painted i made orang drips on the hood and roof and then made the rest silver, that turned out awsome. the latest one i tried a white on the front with something like points back to florescant green, and then that went back to a checkered flag. it turned out pretty good, if you are looking fromlike 5 or more feet away. otherwise the flag got all f'd up. that is alright though, i know how o do it better next time, i will try and post some of my embarrassing body photos this weekend some time.

Ive and learn, man. Take an old body if you have one or just some pieces of a body that you trimmed and try it on them. It's tough to use but after you get the hang of it, the results are great. The car still looks beautifull, man, if my "bad" paint jobs looked that good, I'd be thrilled!

The yellow turned out great. I loved it.
Loved...
I put on 2 coats of sprint white after the yellow. Then I put on 2 coats of the RC290 in prepairation for the Wndow Tint.
I let it dry over night. This morning, I did the window tint.
First coat, sprayed spattery and I was a little disappointed, when I came back there was a puddle in the roof of the car (I left it sitting on it's "back") and when I turned it over, it had eaten the paint and soaked through the top.
I'm on about the 3rd coat now and the windows are looking better, but I still have to deal with this blob of stuff that shows through on the roof. And, unfortunately there are no stickers for the top.
This is rediculous! How are we supposed to tint our windows, how does anyone out there go about tinting? - Just black?
Thanks

That looks great! Just wanted to let you know that Dahm's sells window tint, similar to what they use on real cars on their site. I think its dahms-intl.com. Check it out. I've never tried the spra type.

Is it a film type tint? I was looking for something like that and thought about trying to find some mirrored Mono-Kote. Where can I find it?

I use this tint on almost all my bodies and have only had one problem. My fault though, I didn't use the cover coat/white fluorescent backing. I’ve found that it is best to let the cover coat dry for at least 24 hours before spraying the tint. Make sure you shake the tint VERY, VERY well, then use a very thin coat and let it dry completely (2-3 hours) before spraying the next coat, if needed. When you first spray this it doesn’t look very dark, but it darkens as it dries. I hardly ever use more than 2 coats. If you had a puddle in the roof, you used way too much.
Another alternative if you have an air brush id the new Pactra Acril paints, they have a clear smoke that looks great and doesn’t need a special cover coat to be applied before using it. They also make a clear amber and clear red if you want to detail tail/running lights.

Yes, its a film type similar to what they use on real cars. Might be the samr thing I didn't look too closely. It was on the Dahm's site (the people who make the cool bodies) I think its www.dahms-intl.com. (http://www.dahms-intl.com.) If thats not it just type Dahms into your search engine.
