Hey, I'm on about the 3rd coat of Daytona Yellow on my Ferrari 360 Modena.

When I hold the body up too the ight, I can see paint spatteryness through it, but it's not as noticable if just sitting down. Do I just need to keep doin gmore coats?

Also, I read that you're supposed to back yellow with another color. White or Silver I think. Which should I use?

Thanks!

they say after a couple of coats to back it with silver or white, i backed my florescant green with white and it turned out great, i put about 5 thin coats of the green and could still see through it withthe light.

Thanks. I'll back it with white. I have it laying around. I'd have to go buy silver.

You put five coats of green on total or did you keep going after you could see through it.

How many coats of white did you put, and could you see through it still after white?

the green was pretty transparent (fluorescant), and i was putting on light coats like you are supposed too. i backed with 1 good coat of white, and then backed the whole thing with black b/c i like to have the underbody black and not be multicolored!! just personal preference http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

Any flourescent colors should be backed with white. any full scale flour. colors are put on over white...we're painting the inside, its the same.

Also they are thin, so the colors have to be put on in very thin coats....they run very easily.

Oh! Also, don't look through the body, it'll never look right. Take it and set it IN the light looking down on the color, that's the way it'll be seen. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hey, I am kinda new to RC, I have only had one vehicle, which I painted a solid blue without a backing. I am probably gonna buy the RS4 Pro 3 when it comes out next month, and I'll probably get a Corvette or Dodge Viper (if it is available) body for it. I will probably have it a solid color, except for two stripes running the whole length of the car. The main color will probably be a dark blue, with silver stripes running down the middle. Can anybody give me a full rundown of how I should put the coats on? Like, should I put masking tape where the stripes will be, put blue coats over the whole body, then take the masking tape off and paint the whole body with a couple coats of silver paint? Please be in-depth, as I am not that smart when it comes to painting stuff and 'backing it up with another color'. Thanks.

Vision-

Buy good 1" wide masking tape somewhere (the expensive stuff). Now measure the hood of the car and make them perfectly centered and stright (no one wants a curved stripe!) Put the stripes on thaqt are 1 inch wide each stripe and be sure to stay a perfect distance away. When you layed the mask down, paint the body in light even coats of blue until you can partially see through it. Too much will make the paint run. To help speed up drying, take a hair dryer to it on low power until it looks dry. Let it sit for a couple of hours after you took the hair dryer too it and then spray the next coat of blue, repeat. Then when it is COMPLETELY dry, peel the masking strips off. Make sure there is no tape residue, if there is, take RUBBING Alcohol from like Walgreens and rub it off. Denatured alcohol MAY ruin the paint. If you had to do that, dry it off with a paper towel and let it dry for awhile. Then paint the whole car silver even over the blue color to back the blue up. Oh yea! Be sure to wash the body before you paint with luke warm water and dish washing soap. Wow, that took a long time!

JP, I just figured out how I am going to paint the Dodge Viper body...the two stripes running down the middle will be a dark metallic blue, and the rest of the car will be silver. So, are these the steps I need to take...

Put enough masking tape around the body so the blue paint doesn't get anywhere else but on the stripes, paint that, let it dry, paint it again a couple times, then take the masking tape off the rest of the body and paint the whole body silver a couple times, including over the stripes?

Is that the order in which I should paint the body?

That's the correct order except, enstead of using masking tape on the whole body, just put it where the stripes are then buy some liquid mask and apply that, IN MANY COATS, then peel un the masking tape being careful not to take up some of the liquid mask with it. Then paint the stripes with the blue, and then peel up the liquid mask. Then paint the rest of the body. Oh it also might be smart to back the whole body with white if you can afford more paint. Oh and just to remind you again, when you apply the liquid mask, do it in many coats. Or else it will come up in little crubs(believe me I know from experience).

You always want to paint your darkest colors first.

So if your going to make the car silver with blue stripes (the reverse of the real factory cars)you'll have to tape off all of the body except where the stripes go...that means using LOTS of TAPE.

The easiest way would be to make the car Blue, with silver stripes. All you'll have to do is put the stripes down. Make sure you run your fingernail along the edge of the tape, to seal it against the body, so you won't get scraggly lines. Then paint it blue. I would reccomend "True Blue Pearl" this is Pactra Spray cans. Spray 1 or 2 light coats, so that you get good complete covering. Don't try to get it OPAQUE, (where you can't see through it) then when its dry, (20-30 mins)you can pull the tape off. Then take some silver, & spray a coat on top of the blue. You'll get a great dark metallic blue, and where the tape was there will be silver. If you want the silver to "really light up" spray a coat of white over all of the body. The white behind the silver will brighten up the color, and won't hurt the way the blue lights up either.

I was just wondering if there was a more efficient way to block out where you dont want to paint besides using masking tape, maybe its just me, but i always seem to screw up on the edges maybe just a little bit, but is there another method that is more effective? thanks

light coming through the body is totally alright, keep the paint thin or it will crack off
