Im getting a Tamiya wily willy 2000 which i know comes with a hard body and driver figure. What kind of paint do you use for the driver and body. my guess would be acrylic. Also do you paint on the inside like regular lexan, or on the outside. Thanks for the help?

You would paint the out side. For the body I would use full size auto paint.

before you apply automotive paint, test it out on a scrap piece because most auto paints dry hot and can melt your plastic. it is a good idea to use an automotive primer to protect the plastic underneath

heres my willy

i used just some cheapo spray and tamiya brush on paints

it comes green stock.. but looks crappy if not painted.. willy himself comes white.. so make sure you get a couple different colors of brush on paint for him..

the rollcage and stuff comes as hard black plastic so no need to paint that..

it pulls mad wheelies.. oh yah

so would i use regular hobby paints on the driver figure and then get automotive spray paint for the body? Does the body come molded in green plastic or does it need to be painted. Also could i use acrylic paints for the driver?

one more thing, when you refer to cheapo spray paint.. do you mean like spray paint that you would buy at a hobby shop or the kind you would get at home depot.

learjet,
I have not painted any R/C hard bodies but they should be painted the same as a static model. Since it is a Tamiya kit I might try thier paint or parmas fastcolor. Just check the label on the cans or bottles. And when in doubt ask the LHS counter dude or dudette. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

just cheap-o hobby model paint..

yah tires are on back wards http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

jeep part is molded green.. but it still needs to be painted (if you leave it green it looks REALLY cheap)

its a fun jeep http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

and when you get it hopped up its even better(beraings esc and modified motor)I would not suggest you use regular paint that someone would use in an art class. it scratches very easily

ps all you willy owners should go to the tamiya fourm in the veichles fourm(posted by me)

ok.. i jsut called my LHS and the guy there told me to use regular testors model paint or use acrylic. Im gonna go with the acrylic becasue my grandfather has like 50 differnt colors that he uses for his woodworking projects. the guy also said to put an enamel clear coat on the body to stop it form scratching. For those of you who have one, are the pics at tower and on tamiya website with a painted body or is that the way it comes molded. Cause if thats the way it comes i probably wont even paint it. Also do you have to piant the star on the hood or is that a decal?

lear,
I'd also recommend getting another body for the Willy. The hard bodies are pretty durable but its a really nice body and you will probably want another for fu running.

Dhams makes a few lexan bodies for it. http://www.dahms-intl.com/
