Yeah, this one is way better. TTT is LAME IMHO, its crappy organization is the biggest problem. UBB is the ONLY way to go.
Do you know what sux? I still won't get my new GM3 by tomorrow so I still have to use my old Midnight 2. That really bites, but hopefully it will still be aiight.
Nairb
02-04-2001, 07:58 PM
Well, my Midnight 2 WASN'T aiight. I practiced once just fine, then in the first qualifier it died on me. I thought it was my bettery, but it wasn't because with another fresh battery in the second qualifier the motor wouldn't even run half speed. Because of my lackluster performance without a motor, I qualified into the D-main with 6 laps. I borrowed a stocker from Davey and it worked well enough to help me win the D-main, as if the same situation last time with mme winning the C-main wasn't enough... I am so sick and tired of waiting for my replacement GM3. I've been waiting a month. I can't even use my motor I paid for a month ago!
See you at the Charity Race?

Dude, I had so many visitors come to watch races yesterday. I had a freakin' audience. A guy from school brought his two kids and two guys from my ward brought their deacon-aged sons to watch. They were all very impressed and excited, of course. Besides that, I took one of my brothers that doesn't own any R/C stuff racing with me. He used my oldest brother's stuff. He had a lot of fun (he got 3rd in the D-main), and he's SERIOUSLY excited about getting into it. I've got a few more people to introduce to it, and it's gonna be fun. I'm getting tons of new recruits, as if the novice class isn't big enough already (a freaking D-MAIN in NOVICE!?). I'd love it if I got all my brothers hooked and maybe some cousins as well. All I need is time. Dude, we could have our own class & main. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif LOL! Seriously, I hope I can get a lot of friends addicted to the joys of racing R/Cs like I am. Peace out, bro.

Ahhh, the Nairb Fan club, LOL. Wow! D-mains! what is the novice class coming to? Phew, got out just in time!, hey, steve got a new stocker, so the buggy class had better move over, steve is taking the win baby, LOL, it is the Peak Spitfire, trying out something new, and plus, my B-day is on sunday, so it is part of my presents, i tried to milk out a 12x2 Aurora, but no dice, oh well, i will have to buy it. YES! I will be at the Charity race, also part of my present, parents pay! LOL. I got my P2K rebuilt while i was out there, so, i have a backup, but i think this motor will be cool, i wanted it under the Team Orion Label, but they do not have any TO stuff, oh well. Yes, this is a good place to keep the race talk.

I'm so happy to finally get my GM3 and not have to worry about motor troubles in the qualifiers.

Dude, guess what? I looked yesterday and they dropped the price of the 403 Tx w/battery & crystal down to $159.95! Sure, I'll take $15 off. It's an even better deal, now. You know, all those bulky computer radios just don't appeal to me as much as this sleek little demon. It's gonna RAWK!!
Dude, you've gotta see the new track, it is so cool. Yeah, I went racing again last night. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif It takes some skill to get around perfect, but it is dang fun. It has a HUGE triple! The first juump is 3-4 feet tall at least and VERY steep. It's so hairy that they're actually going to tone it down because of whiners. The first jump is huge like I said and the other two get smaller, but man do you FLY off that thing! The mod trucks get serious air time. They must get 10 feet of vertical air, man. This dude racing mod truck (Cory) pitted by me and you would not believe his luck. It was sickening. He BROKE two Lunsford titanium turnbuckles and at least 3 a-arms on his spec XXXT!! Can you believe it? I can't. Man that is crazy.

I always start at the bottom forum and make my way up, just FYI. I think I want to stay in Novice a bit longer, but it is kinda emabarassing to still be there racing a bunch of young & unexperienced kids (mostly). My A-main lap/time count was 12 4:04, which is pretty good IMO. I was the only 12 lapper in Novice, I must say (at least in the mains, I dunno about the qualifiers). I don't remember what I did on Wednesday, but I think Saturday was better anyway.
Yeah, I saw your race and it was pretty good. You're hangin in with the big boys (in the B-main) pretty well. I hope to do the same when I move up to stock. Do you know Ryan? He is a FAST XXXT racer (the guy with that 1/12th scale). I watch him all the time. He is so dang smooth and fast. Watching his truck was a big part of me getting a XXXT. Anyway, afer my first qualifier, he said to me that I should be in stock. He didn't say much, but I guess that was a compliment to my driving. It's a pretty good one coming from him, IMO. You know, I would be tons better if my fingers still worked, but that doesn't matter now anyway. I'll just have to kick some booty with my quadriplegic-hands. Oh, my Rehab therapists would be so proud. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Anyway, I seriously think you could do better with a fresh suspension. Your buggy just looks too soft and in need of a rebuild out there IMHO. Either that or your ride height is way low (a lot lower than other buggies, I noticed). Hey, fresh shocks can't hurt, but they can help a lot. That could be holding you back. I'm just trying to help. It seems that your buggy really gets frazzled on bumps. It makes me think that you might have lost some oil. Anyway, it's worth a try.
Dude, we didn't get home until 1:00 am!! I guess that's what you get for being in the A-main, race #9. I bet Evan's parents were ticked! Hey, we might go this Wednesday again! Can you believe it? I've already been the past 4 Satudrays and the past Wednesday. Why stop the streak? You know, I could give you a ride out there sometime if you need it. I'm alright with that if you can't get a ride. Or maybe you could save your parents some gas and have them drop you off at my house or WVH and I'd take you from there. Hey, it's an idea... How did your talk go? I was lazy with my lesson today, we just listened to a Joseph Smith tape. I was too lazy to prepare this morning.
One more thing, are you going out there tomorrow? I'm not, but I've got the VCR all programmed and ready to record.
See ya...

Hey Brian move up to stock only when you feel like it. When I moved up I think I did it a little too soon. If you are beating the crap out of the novice drivers all the time you should move up. I have always thought that if you race with better drivers it makes you better. I dont know if I could even do that good in novice right now. I would go to make a clean pass and get clobbered. But that happens in stock too.

YES! I got out there today, it was great! I was on TV and everything(not talking, just looking like a serious, tough guy, LOL). I feel that my car jsut cannot hang with the guys in the straights, it is slow, so, i may be making a large cash transaction(where the money comes from, i have no idea) But i will be buying an MIP super diff rebuild kit, new tranny halves(seeing as how mine are super glued at the moment) and i guess a shock rebuild kit, i replace the oil often, and when they get low, i do, so i am not completely being lazy with the maintainance.(ugghh, i have a feeling i spelled that wrong)
Roach, see if you can get more guys out here onto RCCA, getting kinda lonely here.

sammyh71- That's one of those unwritten rules. On a normal club race I dont think you have to worry about anything. When it comes to larger races you more have to worry about spectators in the pits. Its that kinda thing that you dont want to do anything you wouldnt want done to yourself. Just get to know the people pitting around you and if you leave the track ask them to watch your stuff. I dont think you have anything to worry about.

Thanks Brian, make me feel guilty for neglecting my car, so today, i decided since i had it off of school, i would at least lube up my diff so it did not feel like 60 grit sand paper, and i take my tranny apart, and i think, hmmm, tranny case needs replacing still, so here is my diff in my hand and, well, the gears got a little dirty, so i motor sprayed them off, now for my diff....yikes, the washers are almost flat, oh well, i think, then, for some reason, i decided to take a look at my thrust bearing.....bad idea again, the washer has been deeply grooved, and it is long gone, as well as the seal, so, there is more money out of my pocket, and of course, they sell the diff screw, seals, and concave washers, and diff nut in 1 package, while the thrust balls and washers are in another(9 bucks all together) Well, they did not have the balls and washers, though there PC said they did, but i looked at the XX one, and the washers were the same, but the balls were in this molded thing, i will show you later, so i do not even get the thrust balls, so i got all of this, and it came to about 15 bucks, rats, all because of your negativity...... thanks a ton http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Oh, and while i was at it, I decided to do what Oyster did with his motor plate, i Scotch brited my motor plate, then put the buffer wheel on my dremel, and went to town, and let me tell you, this thing is like a mirror, i will have to show you tomorrow, and now, while my car's back end was apart, i have to take apart my motor, so it looks good, and runs fast.

No Derek, he means they'll be able to see everything through your clear body, and might copy your setup. It was a lame joke, but I got it. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/tongue.gif LOL! J/K, Stevie.
Steve, you may be $15 poorer, but now you can have total confidence in your tranny. I'd say it's worth it. Now I'll REALLY bug you about your shocks so you'll redo them on a school day. That'll take some extra guilt-tripping... hehe See you out there, dude.
Derek, I'm Brian (Nairb = Brian spelled backwards). I'll be the only guy there in a wheelchair, who just happens to own the coolest, most sexy XXXT in Utah. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif It's painted silver, purple, and orange (it matches my Novak stuff very well). I'll be out there sometime between 1 and 3, we'll just have to see how the morning goes.

Well I probably won't be able to show now. My airtronics M8 doesn't seem to be functioning correctly. It has only been used 1 time (2 years ago)... When I turn it on the function keys don't work! I had so much fun! Even though my car didn't finish the first 2 races and got in half way through the last (**** esc to reciever wire).. I felt I did very well. In the first race I was about to get 3rd after like the 2nd lap then front right tire blew off, 2nd race I was in third and the pinion blew off (thanks xxxer for the wrench), and the third race I got in half way threw but finished and felt I was getting around the track fairly well. Next saturday I will have to see what I get as my car will definetely finish the races. I used these races as a practice run, and to get familier with the b3 a little bit more. I am ready to roll now though. Also I like the way the 2000's run.. I love my reedy zappers.. I can't wait to get my new 2400's to see how they run!
P.S - Does anyone race on WED nights??

Yeah, dude, I've been there the past two Wednesdays and I hope to go this one, too, but this time it will be stock class. I won both my qualifiers (and I was TQ), but I got 3rd in the A-main. After the race, all the guys that were waiting for their stock truck A-main told me to move up. They said I'm cleaner than some guys in stock, and a bunch of other stuff. I'm definitely moving up; I'm not a novice anymore. Even though I didn't get all 3 A-main wins I'm entitled to, I've had enough of Novice racing. I'm confident that I can do well in stock, without a bunch of amateurs getting in the way. Cool, I get to race for 5 minutes now...
I just took my brother's brand new T3 for a spin outside (shh, don't tell him) because my test pack had to be run out, and it was pretty nice. It's not a bad truck at all, but I sure dig my XXXT a lot more. He'll be happy with it, though. Hopefully, a week from Saturday I'll be racing with all 3 of my brothers. That'll be fun, big time. It's time to ressurect my old 10T for my truckless-bro to race.
See ya...

Stock is where its at, only way to fly, Tony even said he was a little afraid of you when you come into stock, LOL, i was talking, and he said, "he is just such a smooth driver!" Not trying to be mean, but i think your equipment was holding ya back, dontcha think so too? You should get some new tires out front, those silver gave a little too much push, i know my car was twitchy, need to dial that out, but your car is too much, IMO.
Well, I never have gone on a wednesday, but someday, i would like to.
Brian, good luck in stock! The main thing that i have been shooting for is to not get last, that is it. Just keep the same goal, then when you get better, just say"oh, a podium finish today". Do not count out the regional, we have the most there also, but hpiguys thread is catching up! oh well. we be internet junkies! So, how was your race tonight? was it *gasp* STOCK????? I hope so, i suggest you go down a tooth on your pinion, i mean, just try it, i did, and it has worked for me! I just like it lower and lower and lower........
Nairb
03-08-2001, 01:31 AM
Yeah, I already went down to a 17 tooth earlier this week. I'm thinking I might get an 86 tooth spur gear to try, too. So, I ended up trying Adam Drake's standard setup. It worked pretty well with the same tires, but when I put on my new Pink Directionals, I had WAY too much steering. That was with my Red T-2000s, though. I tried it with my M3 Holeshots and it evened out better, but it was still too loose in the back. So I decided to move the rear outer camber links back to the outside hole, and that pretty much dialed me in.
So, how was stock? It was cool, but I still had trouble with a BAD hacker. He pi$$ed me off, man. In the qualifiers, he always took me out on the same turn. I would pass him on the rest of the track, then when I got to that turn again, I would take it slow and tight and he would slam in to me. Again and again...boy, that was lame. He took my spot in the A-main, that punk.
For my stock beginnings, I decided that a nice, conservative first goal would be to win the B-main. I figured it would take a little while, but it didn't. I guess I need a new goal! Man, I kicked some buttocks!! I lapped everybody in the B-main!! It felt pretty good. My main-winning time was 15 laps in 5:09, pretty good, eh?
You goin' Saturday? I am... http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Excuses, excuses... Whether or not you have it tougher, it was a pretty good accomplishment for me, punk! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/tongue.gif It's pretty cool for a bunch of regular stockers to get schooled by a quadriplegic dude fresh out of novice class. Mind you, I can't even move my trigger finger (I bend my wrist to pull the trigger). Who knows what I could do if my hands still worked like they used to...?
Tony was in another heat and qualified high in the A-main (he screwed up in the main, though). The punk was a guy with blue front tires, but not a plain blue body. That guy was back in the B-main somewhere...

Good crap, 900? I'm inching up on 600...
Well, the new track is pretty flat and very fast. I've had a very hard time hooking up tonight. I just have way too much steering. I think I'm gonna try some silver directionals. Yes, silver. I was talking to Gordy and he gave me some good tips. I shortened my wheelbase, I'm also going to try the silver directionals and inner camber location on the rear tower like he does. He hooks up like mad out there, so this HAS to help. My new radio rocks, but I still have to get used to it. The trigger is harder to pull, but everything else is cool. One thing I REALLY have to get used to is recharging my radio pack. Holy crap have I learned my lesson... After a pretty dismal qualifying run, I qualified 1st in the B-main again. All was going well in the main. I was 3rd and just about to pass Stan for second, THEN my damned radio battery died, HARD! My truck went straight into the wall and my radio pooped out. That was it, my race was finished. I could've got second at least. I still ended up 6th after dying at 4:20. Oh well, tonight was a learning experience. I'll be more prepared for Saturday.
You know, the track is alright, but it seems boring. One tiny triple, that is more like a whoops section, and a decent double is it, besides a mild elevation change or two. I'm kinda glad this is only staying for two weeks.
See you Saturday, Steve? I'll be there with all my bro's.

I had a grizzly game to go to and it was awsome. There was like 10 fights and we won the game 2-1 over the moose. I will be out there on WED night and SAT night for sure, i have no plans.
NAIRB > I have been doing alot of reading about how the cars and trucks handle. The shorter wheelbase like the one guy told you, does make the vehicle so the back won't slide around as much. I also had a longer wheelbase and change my antisquat so my buggy should be fine now. Just thought I would let you know. Shorten your wheelbase and set your anti-squat to standard might do it... Letme know.

When your car is longer, it is all around more stable, shorter does the opposite. If you guys want to learn more about handling of cars, here is a cool link that i found on the Losi site http://www.goodnet.com/~jrmsn/rccar.html Talks all about the handling of cars and stuff.

Well, I did alright. It wasn't a stellar performance, but it was alright. I haven't got into the A-main yet...and the main-troubles continue... Last night in the B-main I was doing quite well staying ahead of Ryan Vandertoolen (he is dang fast), then I noticed my truck was getting steadily slower. It acted just like dumping batteries, but when I checked out my truck after the race, the motor was all stinky. It wasn't smoking, but it was VERY hot and stinky. I still beat my brother, though, and it was his best race of the night. He qualified dead last in stock. LOL! Anyway, I thought I'd geared my GM3 very conservatively (17/84), but it was still too much for it I guess. I still have to take it apart to investigate, but I've had it with GM3s, I'm going to move on. Now I just need to decide which one to use/get...
Guess what. There were 15 heats last night! My brother and I were in #12, Stock truck. Man, we had to wait forever. I can't believe it...we finished at about 12:15, THEN we went to my brother's work and play Quake III Arena against each other until 2:30. Freak, I am tired...not to mention sick. I gotta go...SCHOOL BITES !!! I NEED ANOTHER SPRING BREAK!

Hi all. Haven't posted in a while. Last week I finally got my Nitro MT Racer finished. Spent the week breaking it in. I got to sleep in late this morning (stayed up late to watch GP of Malaysia) The wife went off to church. About noon I thought 'Why don't i go out to the track?' got out there fired it up got some fun laps in and then crash. hit the wall, broke the front camber link ball. It sheared right off. no way to fix without a drill. so much for my day at the track. Packed up and went home. Good thing I only live about a mile away. I guess that'll teach me to play hookie and go to the track.
My truck does however scream. But you battery boys wouldn't know anything about that http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

HEHE, I painted my body today blue. It looks like crap but that was what I was going for. I only had a liitle bit of spray left in an old can. I took a paper and paste it and made the front ok looking and then it goes splattered everywhere! HAHA, I will have the ugliest body at the track, and I love it. It looks messy and kind of like the buggy was offroading in mud ouddles. It looks so horrible, it's funny! The good thing though is that I am upgrading my body and shock tower for a new deja vu proline body and when that get's painted it will be kewl! I can't wait to race WED night so my body can get laughed at!! Ohh well my buggy is going to win the a-main novice this WED! Who is all going?

Yeah, Steve, I told you I could give you a ride sometime if you want. But I'm not going this Wednesday anyway, so you're on your own this time. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/tongue.gif I'm not going because I need to catch up on homework and sleep (I'm getting sick). I also need to get a new motor to use, so I'll just go Saturday.
Guess what. Truck racers really better watch out now. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/tongue.gif Why? First, I'll have a new torquey motor to use (I haven't decided which one yet). Second, I now have a spot on the drivers stand. I'll be able to see the whole track with nothing in my way (no blind corners because of jumps, marshalls, etc...)! This is gonna be weird. Teresa had me go out Sunday and see if it would work, and it will, beautifully. This is gonna be cool...

did she make you your own drivers spot? Teresa, that is really nice! I never get to go because of Youth Activities(church stuff) is on wednesdays, sometimes i have it off, but i think i will be gettin out there more often, because when i got my license, my mum just wrote off the 30 hours, just to get it, but i need another 15, then, get on the insurance, but after that, i am home free baby, YA.
Pixel, glad to see you found the other Utah boys, and glad you liked the page, i think i am gonna go back and read it again.
Derek, who cares about the body, next time I paint one for me, it is going to be bright orange, so that i can see it better against the track, other than the metallic blue/black that i have a hard time seeing.
Brian, i see you have been having troubles with your motor all over the BB, i will let you try out my SpitFire(same as Chrome) for a run if you want, she is all cut and ready for new brushes!

The first too qual's I got third. In the second Qual the guy that got third in the main we both rounded last corner at same time and he got second by only half a second. The main totally sucked! The first turn off the strait some guy ran me over and was on top of me and the marshall took forever that we had to yell out! By that time everyone was gone and there was no way for me to come back! I drove some awsome line in the finish and finished 4th in the main after starting way back from the guy that took me totally out.. Ohh well though I will get it SAT..
SUX too. In the 2nd lap of my first practice (before races) my buggy went into the wall at high speed coming out of a corner and BREAK! Front right A-ARM snaped right in half so I had to buy some new graphite! They seem to work alot better though, just upset me cause I thought that would be the last thing I broke. I figure turnbuckles would break before the arms, but ohh well.

I just BARELY got my new motor. Whew! I was sweatin' because it looked like it might not get here until Monday, but it came so I'm OK. Its numbers all look pretty good, except the RPMs are kinda low compared to my GM3, but that shouldn't matter:
RPM -- 26,871
Power -- 128.7W
Eff. -- 72.7%
Torq. -- 178Nmm
My GM3's printout is almost washed totally off, but this is what I can read from it:
RPM -- 29,359
Power -- 121.9W
Eff. -- 68.1%
Torq. -- 155Nmm
I haven't even tried the motor yet, but I'm already happier with it than I ever was with my GM3. I'm excited to try it out, with my new driving spot & Shiny CVDs, too!

I had at least 2 wrecks on every run. But it was a ton of fun! Dave qualified 5th for truck stock A-main, and Mark Iberman(another magna guy) qualified 2nd or 3rd. Dave got hacked and ended up in the back of the pack but Mark took second I think.

Well guys I havent been racing or doing anything to do with RC since April Fools. I am in the process of moving and dont have time for much. I just bought a house and man is that a ton of work!
I have had a chance to work on my website a little. I am in need of the complete results for April Fools. Once I have those I am going to post all of them and more photos. If you want to check out what I have so far go check it out DialedRC.com (http://www.dialedrc.com). I am not going to be up racing for a while so if any one can get those or ask Teresa when she is going to update her site that would be great. Once I get those I will post them.
Geuss what steve, once I move I am not sure if DSL is avaliable where I am moving too so I might be out of luck for that. But unlike most people I spend about 8 hours a day on the internet. I am lucky thats what my job is. So all that will mean is no more late night posting here and on TT.

It rained pretty dang hard either April Fools morning or the Wednesday before. There were a few strategically placed buckets for a few minutes, but it was no big deal. I don't care, though, it's my home track and I LOVE it! :D

Hey Steve, Derek, Jeff, Chad, Ryan, etc....I've been thinking about a team name. What about Team maeT Racing...or Team BARC (Bad-A$$-Radio-Control) or Team BAR (Bad-A$$-Racing)? Let's get some more (cool) ideas. You know we're going to have to get some stickers n stuff, especially so we can show up Team Vision... :D

I cant remember what my best time was for stock truck. I turned an 18 something in one of my mains, which is really a 17 something since that first lap is about 20 feet.
As for showing up Team Vision, you would have to get shirts made too. ;) I will try to make it up there to race soon. But we gotta start running and working on our track, so who knows when.

Nairb, it is long, narrow, and dusty, you need to tear down your motor and clean it after every run. You can't get traction, it is very bumpy, and it is in the sun, there is a little bit of pit space not that much though. So far, the best tires are Losi Step Pins, but i bet that Silver Reptiles would work awesome there.
As for the team, how abou MTKTVA, (My team kicks team visions apples)
I dunno, we got to get something goin on, Matt Murphy and joel and mike are Team Scream, well, they were saying that for one day, LOL.
My best time was my main, 17/5:13, so close to third! at least Stock Buggy had 2 mains last night, it was deserted! All 8 races, taht is tiny compared to the 29 of April Fool's. The only thing i had to pay for last night was my dinner, it was a good night :D

Brian,
Steve came down to our track once i think. It is as deep as magna and once the dirt is in for this year will be just about as long if not longer. It is a true outdoor offroad track. It is a lot harder to maintain it when kids on bikes tear it up. As for traction its a new ball game this year, supposed to have some new dirt. It's not a blue groove track and not clay, so you have to learn how to drive it. The track gets bumpy but nothing a good driver cant handle :D I run motors alll the time for a night with out tearing them apart. just hit them with motor spray and your good. Not sure when it will be race ready, i will let you know. one problem is the drivers stand is not wheelchair friendly, i will work on that. In the mean time, if you come we will work something out.

I like the way you put it, REAL off road, hehe, yes, traction, it is all about tires, you can try your hardest to set your car up for it, there is only so much you can do though. The Driver stand is barely leg friendly, not even a stool to get up there ;) Corey, have you been the the track in Riverdale? I heard that they pulled out the carpet and put in dirt, i might go try it some time.

I dont know I can set up my cars for it just fine. Step pins worked great last year an probally will this year. As for the drivers stand we got a new one at the end of the year last year. It stands in the parking lot and is still about 6 or 7 feet above the track. When we get the track ready to race I will let you know and you can come race down here. The track shouldnt be like you remember we are working on changing stuff a lot.
As for the track in riverdale, I went there when it was carpet havnt been there since. I will probally go up there in a few weeks and try it out.

steve that drivers stand sucked! I will let you know when to come try the new one.
I dont think I am even really that good when it comes to racing. I get most of my setups from other people. I drive better under pressure, which kinda ***** because I dont feel the pressure in the quals and dont do that good. Its all about having fun, isnt it?

Corey, I sent in about 10-20 tips and one of them was about R/C Grips, but I don't know which one(s) they picked. I found out that I didn't win the car, though... Maybe I will another month.
