hi, i race their, ummm... my xxxt just got a new body, its silver with the green orion "main event" paint decals on it.

and my buggy, is a xxx with a white neon green to blue transer on it, and it has fingers on it, hard to describe i will get a pic up.

-and my emaxx has the stock body, but i stuck some of those reflective stickers on it, yellow squares. so when i go next weekend, check it out, if i havent already replaced the body.

i hear there is to be an enduro going on in a few weeks.

anyone got any set ups tips for a xxx or xxxt? my xxxt was turning in 20's and i was driving pretty nice, i ended up finishing 3rd in the a main last sun. then again their were only 5 trucks, and one died, and the other missed half of the race. i think i was 2 laps down by the end.

but it was super bowl weekend so, not many showed up.

it should be intersting to findout when they change the track. but i have grown to like this set up, its just getting over the huge jump in the back next to the hobby section, but i almost have it down!

I was at Big Boys last sunday picking up some tire glue. I was watching the buggys for a little but my girlfriend wanted the trip to only be quick so i didnt get to watch trucks. I have a question for you or anyone who can answer this. I have a D4 15x2 motor and was wondering on what size pinion i should use to run on that track? I think im going to Big Boys tommrow, and get the pinion sized, the guy that owns the place was telling he would size it for me he said about a 12t pinion would be good for that motor on that track. What do u think?? Later BTW are you racing tommrow?

i run (with a xxxt) like a 87/18 or something like that with a 12 turn, which gives me alot of power, and speed. i wont be racing tommrorow, i normally only go every other week if that, because i live an hour away.

but dont be a showboat on the jump, or else you will break. just try to stay even, and not bottom out too bad, and you should be fine.

also on the triple right infron of the drivers stand, i have yet to clear it, but try to get it so you only miss the second jump, and then roll your way off of the third.

on line that i found to be pretty good in the next section (the big hill bumps or whatever you want to call em) is go wide, so you hit the flat side of the landing ramp, and then go through there. however my buggy flips half the time, but my truck makes it. also i dunno if its still true, but on the ruts or small bumps, stay to the left or right, the middle was the worst, and the left seemed to have the most open area.

but try to corner marshal alot, so you find the best lines. and try to stand in the area in which you dont know what line to take, so you can see which is the best.

if they run a emaxx class, dont corner for it. its a sport within itself. i run my emaxx their, but when i broke i decied to marshal, man is it tough, running back and forth!

but have fun!

Hey Stormperson... does Big Boys Toys have places where you can plug in your charger so you can charge your batteries inbetween races??? Also how many frequencies would i need?..... i have 2 so far. BTW do you go on R/C Chat at all?? if so what times?

Where is this track located? And i bet marshaling for an e-maxx class would be challanging! If you didnt flip over the right one they are liyable to climb up your leg in anger! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

in fall river, MA by the way, anyone know if they changed the track layout? i was thinking about going down this sunday, however the daytona 500 is on, and with the new aero package, after watching the bud shootout, its going to be a great race, so imight have to tape it.

stormperson
02-14-2001, 09:44 PM
they just changed the track last night, and this saterday, hopefully i should be their practicing, my xxx is probably going to sit it out, due to lack of servo and esc, which my emaxx took (man that thing runs great)

but my xxxt should be in action, and i will probably end up practing the most with it.

next time i am there i will probably mention that this forum is up.

or if anyone does mention it, that way they can anounce it during the races.

hey there.......so what is the new track layout like now?? is it any good? cause im might go and might race on sunday cause my truck might be done by then.

stormperson
02-23-2001, 10:58 PM
i went last week, sorry i didnt update, i guess i checked and it was messed up.

they changed it alot, its alot harder, and it takes some getting used to. on one of the middle straights, there are 3 mini jumps, i found that you can hit the suport pole if you go outside, and hit the 2, however its a better route. but if you are a more timid or worse driver, then stick on the inside, you might not land the jump that great, however much less chance of hitting something or flipping.

also, try to clear the triple, the big one. and on the triple to the far right, doulbe it, and go wide, so you can turn in nice, and just roll over or semi jump the last one.

i had my emaxx, after my xxxt broke, ran about 45 minutes with it, danm, it was a artform to control that thing.

staduims seem to be pretty good on the new layout, the buggies just bounce around, and flip.

Hey, whats up? I thought i was gonna be ready to race their by this sunday but i got back tracked with school work so now i wont be able to race this sunday 2/25... but on sunday im gonna paint my body and bring my truck to big boys and get it geared correctly, cause i want to get a small pinion, atleast thats what the guy said, cause my 15 turn is gonna be out of wack if i gear it for speed. I belive i should be racing the following sunday 3/4. When are you going up next to race? BTW thanks for posting how the track layout is. and the helpful tips that go along with it, i appreciate it. I need to know all i can cause its gonna be my first ever race when i start. Later

i will be going sunday. i am going with my dad who has a red xxx witha black spot right infront of the winsheild.

i will be running my xxxt truck, which has a silver body with neon green and checkerd flag orion paint thignies

my buggy has a white to green i think to blue i think fade sorta thingie. its hard to describe.

but i should get there when it opens, around 11am ish, and practice like **** .

but i have been preping all the cars today. all the trannies are rebuilt for the most part, and i have one full tranny with motor incase something goes. and just a tranny. i feel like team joest last year at le mans! lol.

but i cant wait to watch the emaxx race, on that track its going to be funny.

Hey whats up? I think i am going to Big Boys on Sunday to watch so i can get an understanding of how they run their races and what not. Cause its gonna be my first time racing and i want to have some idea so that im not lost. If you are going on sunday, what kind of truck do you have and what kind of color scheme does it have? So i can know what to look for. Later

just got back, it was the enduro this weekend, my team finished second, out of six. it was a great race, i almost got a penatly for roughing though, however alot of people did near the middle of the race.

RC10DS99
03-04-2001, 09:11 PM
Yo whats up? How was that E-Maxx class? Sounds pretty intresting. Anyways i pretty much finished my truck today, all i have to do now is get it geared correctly and paint the body and its ready to race. So i definatly should be racing next sunday. When is the next time your going? So how does that Enduro work out? was it not like a regular race? Also if you have an idea: what size pinion should i use if im running a D4 15x2 87t 48 Pitch on Big Boys track???I know its short so i dont want too much power. I was taking to the owner and he said i should try to go with the smallest i can get such as a 12T. What do you think?

stormperson
03-04-2001, 10:20 PM
well there wasnt an emaxx class, and i wont be able to run in it now seeing however i am doing a .21 conversion for my emaxx, already shipped out all of the e parts, and should have the nitro up and running by the end of next week.

anyway, the enduro worked pretty well. it was pretty smooth. each team had 4 people, and one person had to be a marshal. pit stops took about 30 seconds, since you had to take out the trasnponders. but you actually end up running about the same time as you would running in a normal type of thing.

the longest stint was about 20 minutes. i ran about 10 minute stints, since i had a 13turn motor, and i was geared poorly (not enough torque). however i had no clue it was the enduro or else i would of brought a p2k or two.

as for a 15 turn. go like 90 and 15ish. everyone pretty much liked the enduro (even steve the owner) and alot of people asked when the next one is. hopefully around next month, which is pretty soon. i got a nice trophy. all in all, a good day.

i will most likely show up weds night to race, and MAYBE sunday, i dunno what other comitments i have. but i hope to, to get my buggy running nice.

just a note for motors, even though its an open class, over half of the people run stock, p2ks and GM3, for the current set up gm3 are probably better, however normally i think a p2k would be better, more torque.

but get there and get at least 50 laps BEFORE even thinking of racing. the first time i went to a race track i had probably run 100+ packs bashing, and i ran at a oval, with a 15 turn motor, and crashed a ton (this was at northboro). trust me racing for the first time even in a different form of rc is very frustrating at first. but get as much practice time as possibly, and maybe go to watch a race, check out the lines, that sorta stuff, ask for set up help. however most guys run losi's (xxx's and xxxt's) but a few top runners run the t3, so you should be set and ask them.

hope this helps!

Thanks for the information... it is gonna come to great help to me when i start racing. When is the next time you are going up?
I know for sure i am definaltly running on sunday because as of right now my truck is ready to race... all i have to do now is paint the body, and i am gonna do that tommrow. So after that is all set i think im gonna go to the track on friday and practice so i can a feel for the track and how my truck responds to the jumps and how it comes out of turns etc...... but once again i thank you for your words of wisdom.

stormperson
03-07-2001, 09:19 AM
if they are open i will be going tonight, however thats if they are open.

also on rcmt.net there are like 10 people in this area who are thinking about all meeting up in once place and just bashing and running the cars. do some jumps, and some nice offroading, that sorta stuff.

anyway, i wont be able to come on sunday, however next weds and next sunday i probably will.

03-08-2001, 09:18 AM
did really well last night, my buggy broke 2 of the same parts in practice (i tried starting wide on the smaller set of triples after the big ones, and i would start wide, and then turn in as i land, i broke 2 right front steering knuckles.

my truck on the other hand was fast, and it was very smooth. i need to rebuild the motor for a little bit more power, but i did get the TQ. however it was messed up, my first qualifier i ran 6+minuts for some reason, so i really should of qualified 2 or 3. but o well.

i changed to dirt spec tires in the front in the second qualifier, which gave me alot more steering. however it was way too much by the main. it was driving like crap, and i ended up with a 3rd place finish i think. all in all though, a good day.

Hey whats up? good job on wednesday. I am so upset because i cant race this sunday because my batteries never came in and i ordered them a while ago... so now i cant race. Oh well gives me more time to get prepared for when i start. Are you going up next sunday? Talk to you later.... C-Ya

stormperson
03-09-2001, 06:04 PM
i will be going next sunday (not the 11, but the 18th) and most likely i will also be going this weds night.

but if u dont have alot of practice time on the track then dont race, it will just be very upsetting.

also the current track set up is very techincal and hard to learn. there are alot of tricky sections and different passing zones (the best is right after the second set of triples is to go in tight, and then shut the door on the other person as they try to merge back in)and i have done it, however its hard to pass during the alternating jumps right before the cross over one).

but basically just watch the good guys, and see what lines they take. however u might not be able to take the same ones, like going through the ruts as oppose to going on the outside.

RC10DS99
03-10-2001, 10:46 AM
Yo..... yeah im gonna make sure i get lots of practice time on that track.. it does look difficult. Saturday or even friday im gonna go and practice for a while so i can get a real good feel for the track. So hopefully i will be ready to race on Sunday. I cant wait. Later

03-18-2001, 09:43 AM
hey whats up? I practiced yesterday for the first time and i did pretty good getting around the track... my car gets over the big triple no prob... does good over the little triples.. the only trouble i was having was the cross over.. it was a bit confusing for me sometimes. But all in all i did ok. I broke my sterring servo on my last pack that i was gonna run so atleast it didnt happen when i first got there. Last night i had to put my other servo in and glue my tires on to the wheels cause they wernt holding well. My truck is painted Green in the rear with yellow in the front.. its pretty cracked up now after i flipped it a couple of times but hey what are ya gonna do its off road racing. I will be there racing today. Hopefully i do ok. Which i think i should. C-Ya

stormperson
03-18-2001, 05:38 PM
you ran great today! if there had been enough people for 3 mains you defently would of been high c main or mid or low b main. you seemed to be fast enough, the key is not to crash, which is alot easier said then done.

also i dont think this track layout will be there much longer, seeing how its been around a month. so dont spend to much time trying to learn it.

also the bow ties might of been the problem, losi ifmar pins work great, i run them. they tend to work better when the track has dried off though, but i use them all of the time.

RC10DS99
03-18-2001, 06:25 PM
Hey... I didnt know that was you i was racing today.. lol cool.. You did really good, and your truck runs smooth. I did ok i guess. I knew i wasnt gonna do that great, cause i had only practiced once the day before. I seem to do better in practice than in race. The problem i was having today was my truck was running rather quick for that track, and was out of control, i think im gonna gear it a little lower cause i had too much power.... i was running the truck not even on half throttle, also my truck kept on spinning out of control when i came out of the turns, but that may have been because of my driving, i will just have to work on that. I think im gonna change my rear tires to those Losi ifmar pin tires, mabey that will help a little.I let that kid with the glasses drive my truck and he busted my cheap Standard Futaba servo(lol)atleast it didnt break in a heat or the race,i knew it was gonna happen soon or later http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/frown.gifi busted the other servo yesterday during practice), so now i have a Hitec high torque metal gear servo, good thing i had money with me or i would have not been able to race today. I dont know what was going on before the Main... my car was going wacky on the first lap...... it was at some points not even running, it would stop and go and then turn by itself, i have no clue why thou. We'll i got to go. c-ya

stormperson
03-18-2001, 10:04 PM
ya, a metal gear servo is actually less expensive in about a month's time. and everyone does better in practice, alot better. the stress of the race and another guy there can really mess u up.

if you have to much steering, and not enough rear traction, then you can either lower the rear suspenion or stiffen the front or soften the rear, all of those will allow more weight to the back.

however the t3 i think has a pretty good set up guide, and if not check out AE's site they have alot of good advice, however just remember that track is very different from most, in how tight it is.

but practice, and staying relaxed has helped me the most. if your car cooroperates then all the better! (thankfully my truck did today, my buggy wasnt so helpful)

hey whats up? Do you know when they are changing the track layout at Big Boys? Also do you know any information about when C&C is going to start their racing? I might go to Big Boys this weekend...made some adjustments to my truck but i wasent able to get new tires cause im a little low on cash, but changed truck around so that i get a little more weight and traction in the rear so that the truck does not slide as much. hey whats up? I heard that Big Boys does not race on sunday anymore, but however i heard that they race on Wednesday, (Open Class). I think that i am going to practice on sunday in the morning and see how i do with the new track layout. If i think im ready i will probley race this wednesday night coming up, since it is vacation from school and i dont have any school work to do i can now race my truck again. i have only been into this hobby since last nov, and only been racing since august last year, you were saying that C&C might start racing again?

i called them last summer and it appeared they didnt race, do they even have a track still?

RC10DS99
04-14-2001, 12:46 AM
I was told that they were not getting enough people on sundays to race anymore.... So they just have Wednesdays now. but i am going to practice this monday cause of vacation, and see how i do and mabey race wednesday night. Also im not sure about C&C someone said they dont do racing there anymore, but you can still go there and run. And they have the same layout they have had for years. I would like to go there and run my truck cause it is more out in the open not tight at all. From what i can remember. But i am going to call them and find out for sure if they are racing for not, So when i find out i will post here. We'll outta here. C-Ya

once school is out though i plan on racing every weds night.

hey..... i race yesterday... i did better this week. I still had some probs but overall i did ok, still need to practice more so i can get better. Listen to this.... i was in my 2nd heat and i was in 3rd place out of 7 trucks and i was going on my 4th lap and all of a sudden i land coming off a jump and all of a sudden my battery comes out the side of my truck DOH!!! i forgot to put my battery strap on. i felt so stupid and was upset that i was in good postion and i had to stop. Oh Well i am definatly gonna learn from that. I didnt do that good in the Main i only made the B main and i screwed up, and got tangled up with other people. We'll i gtg later

i had a reciever come out of the car! the servo tape came off it, and it was dangling outside of the car, with 30 second to go the antenna wire rips right out of the reciever, it was very upsetting, since i had just won a race long battle for 2nd in the Bmain.

hows the new track set up, easier or harder?

stormperson
04-20-2001, 06:53 PM
are they running seperate mod and stock classes?

RC10DS99
04-21-2001, 12:09 AM
Yeah... they only ran Mod Truck on wednesday.. but they had both Mod and Stock Buggy.

RC10DS99
04-21-2001, 12:48 AM
hey.... wow a reciever?? still not as bad as my battery flying out lol...(dumb move) anyways the track layout for the most part is pretty easy and its fast, but after u come off the long straight near the hobby shop you take a right and then another sharp right and off a big jump..... its hard to maneuver, cause u have to have good speed coming out of the corner to make the jump. If you come up to the jump with not enough speed you are gonna crash into the other part of the track and eventually get hit my some other car or truck... the buggys in the open class didnt seem to have much trouble getting over cause alot of the guys were running 10 and 12 turn motors, the stock buggys had some trouble. For the most part the trucks were having the most trouble coming off the turn and making the jump.. its hard at first but with plenty of practice it can be mastered.

i dont know, however i dont know if it will be before the end of may. i am really busy with school, and i finally got the track i built in my backyard working nice, and my friends (one has a t3 and some nitros, and the other has a t3 and just bought a b3 from my first friend) but we plan to just have fun racing.

i also have my .21 tmaxx running nice now, and my friends are also planning to do tc's. however this summer, since i dont have school (yay) and they will be going away i will be racing every weds night, and maybe doing a few whole weekend trips to enfield ct.

i really wish big boys had a website where they posted pics and stuff. then i could keep up to date with everything.

sorry i havent been active recently. anyway i just called northboro intl. speedway. which is basically a reall rough offroad track in the form of an oval, and a rough onroad oval track as far as oval tracks go. anyway i raced there last summer.

but they are up and running agais this year, so until school ends or maybe a few weeks before i will probably just go there, since its only a .5 hour away for me and since they race on Sat.

but during the summer, i wil probably race every week at big boys.

also if u go there soon, tell steve (owner) about this thread. and then he can announce it during the race. and we can have a nice discussion about set ups and stuff. which i know would help me out greatly.

i know that ***** . i barely missed it, however half of my friends didnt miss the cutoff.

i went to abington today. long story made short:
nice track, 5 inches deep of good clay (i think hard packed, not blue groover, hopefully not blue groove, it kills tires, and takes the offroad out of offroad) i called them 3 times withint the past 2 days, they kept saying they were open. i got there, THEY HAD A BOBCAT were ripping up the track (widening it) aprrently they had just started about 10 minutes after i had called and left. anyway, its maybe 60-40ft, wide lines.

however, its pretty much nitro, its bascially a few long straights, and in the mid straight (30ft) there are 2 jumps they are maybe 2.5 feet high, hwoever have a curve that would shoot a car at least over 45 degrees up, which equals about 10-20 feet STRAIGHT UP. however this is just what i am guessing, hopefully they will change it some.

as for the hobbyshop, all ofna 1/8 parts. not even much of those.

$375 for a rtr nitro ruslter, just so you can gauge their prices (RIP OFF). also the mangenment doesnt seem to be too good.

they also ahve a nice parking lot, however they share it with afew other stores, but NO CARS were in it. i would kill to race tc's (never really got a chance too). hopefully since tc's are so popular now they will consider it.

anyway i am going to northboro next weekend, check out the situation about the dirt/clay.

just a quick fyi: there is a similar thread going on in the hpi forum "where to race" and according to that,we have maybe about 5-7 people in the area. (area is a very vague term...)

Did yuo get a race schedual (sp?) I would like to know if they race stock or modified electric trucks. I hope to get a rc10gt this summer and do they race nitro ST's? or just 1/8 scale buggies.

they race whatever. they didnt ahve a race schedual, then again i dont even know when racing is going to start.

but i would say a rc10gt is a safe bet, since you can pretty much race em in any track around.
